Tennis 2015

Pathetic that some of the journos are talking about Serena beating herself, just so disrespectful to Vinci who played incredibly well. What a class interview as well

Serena beat herself there. Just got so over emotional, it was actually ridiculous. I'm sad for Serena to lose her chance at finally getting the Grand Slam, but delighted for Vinci, who dealt with the pressure wonderfully.

Lol. It's not really disrespectful. Vinci played well but the unforced errors stat shows just how self destructive Serena was. Vinci made her play, but didn't really hit many winners.

Every player who makes a lot of errors doesn't beat himself/herself , Vinci played a huge part in those errors. She ran down every ball, played a lot of slices and came to the net a lot all of which threw Serena off her game

But we also know the quality of Serena Williams. She's arguably the greatest women's player of all time, and she made some howling errors and just didn't play to anything like her usual standard. Vinci played well, especially at the net, but this victory owes as much, if not more, to Serena melting down, as it does Vinci's performance.

Either way, I'm delighted for Vinci. She handled the pressure better than Serena did and that is a critical part of the game. Her back-hand slice was rather effective also.

Agreed, the slice is so rare specially on the Wta side that players don't really know how to deal with it.

Yep, the pressure clearly got to her, that much looked clear. Vinci looked nervous at times but controlled herself much better. She went into it, quite relaxed, only to enjoy herself, as she mentioned in the interview.

Pretty embarrassing stuff from Cilic, looked more like a first or second round match than a semi-final...

Just woke up. What the feck was cilic playing at ? Shocking scoreline for a semi final.

As bad as Cilic was, Djokovic was flawless.
I imagine he was. But that score line is unacceptable IMO. That's what happens against unseeded players in the first round. Defending champion too.

True, but Djokovic was just hitting everything and Cilic seemed to have the confidence drain out of him. One of those days.
Men's tennis is a joke tbh
How so?

I was just being sarcastic since that is the common reaction about Wta whenever a player wins an easy match

Still love Stan for being the man who probably prevented Djoker from winning the year Grand slam

Yup I am a huge Rafa fan but over the last couple of years I have developed such immense respect for Fed. He is a once in a generation player

I preferred Rafa too, but to be doing what Fed is doing at his age is amazing. Still makes everything look so easy.

I remember the day Nole beat Rafa at the French I said in this thread that unless Fed could produce something special for a few years I can see Nole feasting on slams for the next few years. Now even though Stan won that I think Nole with his fitness levels could genuinely rack up a lot of slams very quickly. The likes of Stan, Murray etc are good enough to win a slam or two but nowhere near as consistent as Novak. The Golden generation of ATP is being followed by one of the worst generation in ATP history

I really hope Fed can win this tournament. He's 34 and is still making Slam finals! I expect Djokovic to prevail again but I hope Federer can win one more. I really think he deserves it.

*Assuming Wawrinka doesn't come back here

Good lord, this is what it felt like when my older cousins would whoop my ass in basketball when I was 10.

I'm exactly the same, bug Rafa fan, but 3 or so years ago it looked like Fed was struggling but over the past two years he has been brilliant and plaudits to him. To play such a new style of tennis, so convincingly against good opponents, at his age. Only can praise the guy.

Hingis for the fifth Slam in a year tomorrow?

Btw, that apparently starts at noon local time, will the men's final be next soon after, or will it be an evening match?

I really want Rog to win fair and square today, but I wouldn't mind seeing jokerbitch get a very slight hammy pull or something when he is splits stretching and retreaving a ridiculous ball. It might sound unsporting of me as D-jok is a great player, but if Roger could get just one more slam...
