Tennis 2012

That was an epic racquet smash by Djokovic when he was broken towards the end of the 1st set, probably the best racquet smash of his career so far.

What was that, 6 match points saved and then turns around the match to win it?

And to think people said he was a bottler 5 years ago

He's never been a bottler, it's such an overused word these days.

He just wasn't THAT good back then, because he was younger with not much experience while being forced to take on Federer and Nadal who were cemented at the top. He also wasn't nearly as fit as he is these days. When he took the number 3 spot in the world he made a gap between himself and the rest of the pack below him, he had tough matches against other players in the top 10 during this period which he would grind out like he did today showing mental toughness.

The biggest difference for him was that in 2011 he had fixed his serve and improved his fitness. People have forgotten how shit his serve used to be, he had no consistency what so ever and could go entire matches barely getting any free points at all.

They are debating whether this was racist.

I don't think it was. On the contrary, I found it pretty funny.

Interesting. I read a piece in the times a few weeks ago that said people around him think he might not be able to play to the same level again. Hopefully that's not the case. But if his knees are an ongoing problem then it's hard to see him going on. His hard running style would leave him crippled after matches.

Really disappointing to see him miss yet another Slam. It's obviously the right decision though as he's not hit a ball since Wimbledon. He doesn't want to go to the Aussie and get knocked out in the first round. He will probably target the clay court season for his return now, which will probably help ease him back in on his favourite surface. It remains to be seen and will be very interesting as to whether he can still compete for Slams with Murray and Djokovic on his return.

On the other hand, Murray played quite well against Janko even though he lost, nothing to be too worried about. Really don't think he should be taking part in these silly exhibition events so close to the Aussie anyway, so it's a good thing. Djokovic just looks as though he could play a tennis match every day of the year, just imperious against Ferrer who's had a great year himself.

And some other guy, I think his name is Federer...

Murray is in Fed's half of the draw this Aussie Open. He plays Robin Haase first.
