So what would you do?
I don't know man. Frankly, I gave up. I have no expectations anymore. I'm in the acceptance phase of the 5 stages of grief.
It will be Solksjaer then it'll be someone, anyone.

It won't be either of those guys, they don't have the profile. They don't fit at United.

Yeah this is a really tricky one. The trouble is If by hook or by crook Ole gets top 4 they won’t sack him in the summer and we’ll have another season of this crap next year.

In my opinion we just need to get Solskjaer out of the club ASAP. Rodgers right now would be a thousand % better than what we are seeing at the moment.

I’ve voted for Ten Hag as he’s my number one pick but I fear that the club won’t sack Solskjaer if we wait for the summer.
I wouldn't be so sure of this... LVG, Mourinho and Ole keeping their jobs as long as they qualified for the CL is a sample size of 1 or 2 full seasons per manager.

There's no evidence that the club will allow a manager to continue indefinitely as long as they finish 4th, we just haven't reached that point with any manger yet because they keep getting sacked after a couple of years for finishing outside top 4/having a complete meltdown. I suspect after 3, 4, 5 years of failure to win the league/CL the board will likely say enough is enough and get someone else in.

If Ole scraped 4th this season I think they'll have seen enough, they must be aware the players want him gone, and they're providing him massive funds for the likes of Varane Sancho and Ronaldo and the team is no better. They're ready to sack him, they just want to wait till the summer so they can get their ideal man to replace him.

The issue the board had with Ole is as well as meeting the bare minimum requirements of top 4, they genuinely thought we were making progress (3rd to 2nd) and believed he'd be able to take the next step if they kept investing in new players. I don't think it's so much lack of ambition as it is a complete error in judgement as to what progress we were making. They didn't consider that our points totals have been poor, our xG and xPTS stats are poor, the team looks awfully coached the entire time with results being very flattering considering how bad performances have been. They didn't consider that he's shown nothing in his career before United to suggest he can win a major league title or CL and instead are judging him solely on his results here (if they did he wouldn't have got the job in the first place). Whilst I think our board are not ruthless enough, I also think they're incredibly stupid and believe the team is making good progress even when they aren't.

I'd take any option over Rodgers now or ever

Don't want him anywhere near our club

In the end, there are still question marks over Potter, Ten Haag or Rodgers. Nobody can predict or guarantee that they will be a success. Just like any club, you hire a manager who is available/interested and sack them if it didn't work out.

Unless you are City or Liverpool in which case you choose a long term strategy and then target and court the right manager as a long term project. That seems to work better?

Did Liverpool do that or just struck lucky with Klopp after a series of failures?

Absolutely and there should also be a plan B if it doesn't work out with the said long term project. Unfortunately with our owners, it is wishful thinking. Therefore, we currently find ourselves in a situation where they did not have a plan B (and probably chose the wrong plan A, but that's in the past now). This means that beggars can't be choosers, unfortunately for us.

Fair point. Bit of both I think

To use your metaphor, we are stuck in a poverty trap. As long as we are beggars we will never be choosers and as long as we choose badly we will stay beggars. Now is the time to break the cycle. If only the owners gave two shitts.

Shouldn’t Poch be on this poll? It’s obviously going to be one of these 3.

I have huge admiration you can stomach his smug face for another 6 months because I definitely can't that's for sure

Same here.
Ole's brand of football is ridiculously bad. Ultra defensive, Counter attacking.
We are basically the underdog in every single match we go into.
We can play a Conference side and Ole will set us up with 5 at the back, with 2 DMs. Ole and coaches have no idea about tactics and rely on "getting the ball to Bruno or Ronaldo" and hoping for them to pull a worldie. If they are misfiring in that game, we are screwed.
In our last match against Atalanta, I remember their manager saw how reliant we are on Bruno, so he man-marked Bruno out of the game. It took a special strike from the best player of all time, to get us out of trouble to draw the match.
Basically, Ole has no advanced tactics.

Anyway, I am ragging on Ole, so I'll stop.

I'd go with Ten Hag BUT would not mind Rodgers joining immediately, as it gets Ole and his coaches away from the players.

Their line up in that FA Cup game was better than ours that day, 10/11 started the final. Its probably the best I've seen them play in the last year, they look very average a lot of the time.

That's because they had injuries. And if you're saying you watch every Leicester game then I'll accept that game just happened to be a one off when they played us.

You ring Ten Hag now and tell him it's now or never. This is the ideal time to take over. Free pass until the end of the season to implement his system(s)/methods, couple of signings in the Summer, goes into his first full season with the best possible chance

If Ten Hag wants the job then he'd go for that I think. The question is 1) Has the club approached him or any other manager? Apparently not. 2) Does he even want the job? Rumours that other big clubs that are better run and more versed in his type of football, are interested. So probably not. He manages Ajax. Every single one of their players would come here tomorrow if they could, so why isn't their manager a possibility?

Give me one reason why any of you think either Ten Hag is agreeing to join us end of season or Rodgers would abandon Leicester mid-season, in January somehow and join us? Except you are not allowed to use the "we are world's biggest club and nobody can refuse to be our manager" bullshit.

Even if Ten Hag wanted to come to EPL (which many said he doesn't) he is a way better fit for the ambitious Newcastle project, than our pathetic state. And for Rodgers - in what world is he abandoning Leicester mid-season? Or why would Poch leave PSG where he has unlimited money, guaranteed French title and every year to compete for UCL?

This is some crazy shit, that strongly smells of Glazers bullshit propaganda to distract people from the mess we are.

Rodgers doesn’t get the respect he deserves. A history of playing attractive football.

A history of over achieving against expectations.

A history of turning squad players into first team regulars.

Flopped in the title race and 2 CL attempts with Leicester. But what people don’t realise is they shouldn’t have been in those positions to begin with, and were in those positions because of Rodgers being much better than people realise . They might have flopped because he is a bottler or might have been due to lack squad depth (especially for Leicester). Only opportunity and time will tell.

With the right players and squad Rodgers will challenge

Poch literally lost the title to Lille last season.

Poch litterally joined PSG on January 2nd last season. He litterally wasn’t there the first four months of the season. He is literally ten points clear this November already.

I agree Ole is not taking the team in right direction when it comes to the style of play or results but another pressing issue flowing under water is --Players like Martial / Mata / Fred / McTominay / Matic / POGBA / Shaw / Lindelof / Baily are either perforning so poorly or not consistent over the years under 2/3 managers . so we need to sort that mess first.

The above players can still be a problem under new manager

I'll watch them if they are on in UK, nothing ever particularly stands out about them to me other than them having a better set of CMs than us. Statistics also back up that they are nothing special at either end of the pitch.

Ronaldo will leave if we are not in Champs League next season.

United need to change something now.

Ole has gone as far (too far) as he can.

Also a lot of players potentially leaving in January and Summer.

Someone needs to manage now not In June or July.

My only point was it's not guaranteed titles, as proven last year.

True. But they’re always the heavy favorites. Since the qataris, came they lost the league 2-3 times in like 12 seasons.

Rodgers is moyes in disguise. He's already failed at a bigger club like moyes.

It would be like liverpool signing moyes and we'd rightly piss ourselves laughing.

Neither of those options, you go all out for Ten Hag now and make him an offer he won’t refuse whilst telling him that he won’t be judged on this season, give him half a season to implement his ideas and tactics then he can see who is worth keeping and who he needs to move on so next summer he can build the squad in his image although this makes so much sense I’ve hurt my head as I know our board don’t have sense.

I am guilty of calling for Ole's resignation/sacking, but on reflection I think we should give him the season or put a caretaker manager in (Nuno anyone?) until we can land a suitable replacement. Ten Hag seems a likely contender but we should review the options nearer the time.

Why is Rodgers even being mentions? Leicester choke every season and they are currently 12th. Can't believe some think he could compete with the top 3 managers.

Rodgers never, the big fecking thunderbird scouse twat head on him. He shouldn't even be allowed into Old Trafford with the visiting team!

Rogers now. It still pains me to say Ole out as I thought he was building something very good after watching his first two seasons here but the end of last season and this season have demonstrated he's nowhere near good enough and he has to go. If he remains in charge for the rest of the season we won't get top 4, half of our top players will want to leave at the end of the season and this will impact us for years to come.

It has to be Rogers now, who will get us top 4 and steady the ship.
And then what? Lack of ambition is astounding. Who's to say Rodgers gets top 4 too? He chokes it every year when on a plate.

Would Pep turn Newcastle into a top 4 side? Probably not.

In the same vein, a manager's reputation and past achievements is just one of the many other variables that affect how he performs. Presiding circumstances with other teams and the general club culture all have a role to play.

No matter which way you look at it, hiring a new manager will always be a gamble every single time.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Was my post that incoherent?

Not at all. I'm serious!

I understand the frustration with considering Rodgers but he's actually a decent manager, definitely in the tier right below the names we're all familiar with. But the problem is no one in that top tier is coming to OT to salvage this season, no chance of that whatsoever. So, we either roll the dice with Ole to see out this sorry season and hope -- because there's no guarantee whatsoever -- that we can bring in Ten Hag this summer. Or we can claw our way back into the top four with a manager who has solid experience in the PL.

If we don't claw our way back into the top four -- and I'm no way confident Ole can get us there -- we are completely fukked as a club.

If you did a poll 99% of respondents (including me) would say Ten Hag at the end of the season. Anyone who thinks Rodgers is worth a punt is doing so on the assumption that Ten Hag isn’t available. He turned down Bayern Munich quite recently, why would he leap at the chance to manage us?
Maybe a reunion with VDB would tempt him to manage us, I hope.

I would say Rodgers until end of season then the other bloke (though someone in another thread has suggested he thinks Rodgers was Liverpool manager so maybe just wait for other bloke

The rest of the league breathed a collective sigh of relief when we passed on Conte'
now look at the shit we are left with

I am desperate for us to appoint an interim whilst we look to put in place a deal to take Ten Hag next summer, however there doesn't seem any intention of doing that so left to accept Rodgers is our best hope of a change right now. I feel sick at the thought of having no passion for this club for the next 6 months because our board won't admit their mistake due to ego

I don’t want Rodgers either but to compare him to Moyes is disrespectful. Moyes was an absolute disaster for us, and had us pretty much mid table. Rodgers almost took Liverpool to an unexpected title, and has won the FA cup with Leicester. I don’t want him anywhere old Trafford but he’d certainly be a huge improvement over both Ole and the Moyes we had back in 2013/14.
