Telegraph Investigation: England Manager Sam Allardyce For Sale | Big Sam leaves England job

Aye, that Moyes fellow is dodgy as feck.
Actually, thinking about this seriously, at Everton he spent ages shuffling a load of shite players in and out of the club. Then got the United job on massive wages(and a massive payoff when he was shit) and didn't need the money any more.... I'd not be surprised to find he's one of the bung collectors(Mr. Whiter than White).
Some clubs are utterly stupid in the way they indulge managers though. For example, IIRC one boss (I think it may be the Wembley Travolta) had a deal with his club like this: he got a bonus on signing a player, and a bonus if he later sold that player for a profit. Maybe I'm missing something but I'd have thought that the salary the club were already paying the manager included money for obvious duties: i.e. the recruitment & sale of players. Surely this could lead to conflicts of interest? For instance, West Ham should be looking very closely as to why Allardyce felt that he really needed certain players to be signed and/or sold regardless of the best interests of the club.
I remember reading that Pulis had a similar percentage of sales clause in his contracts.

There's a line of thinking going around thats why Palace suddenly let him go.

That is different though, that's perfectly fine as it's a performance bonus and poses no conflict of interest ( a little perhaps, he'd want to play him due to the bonus. But normally good performance bonus isn't against business ethic)

Many companies provide performance wise bonus

I'm just not convinced of the wisdom of that policy, mate, regarding football at least - players could be signed (or selected, or dropped etc etc) without regard to their talent and suitability to the team but due to other factors; the story about Ravel and Sam underlines this for me.

You have to be careful with performance bonuses for managers... you have to make sure that it's attached to the overall team's performance, not the performance of a particular player. Otherwise, you do have a potential conflict of reference.

Regarding Crooked Sam... he's a douche and that's all there is to it. Plenty of douches though considered that the FA, UEFA and FIFA are all made up of crooks.

Surprised this hasn't had its own thread.

So recently we've had allegations that managers trying to get the cut of the appearances bonus or they would not play said player. How is that possible?

An extortion of this proportion would have caused upset and surely there will be news leaking out from the players, it's not like they go up against SAF. Ravel morisson isn't even coached by big sam no more, he would have come out if its true.

Also I don't really think it's possible to extract transfer fee from agent, the clubs would have their auditor in check and lawyers to make sure everything is done in an amicable way? Wouldn't they?
As someone with knowledge of thae audit environment,I can tell you that it's presence is not fullproof.

Enron,WorldCom etc all had auditors and got away away with far worse.Hell closer to home,so did Fifa.

So I was speaking to my physio about this today and he said one of his clients is the finance director at a well known club (wouldn't tell me who it was). He also said that Big Sam is known as the 2nd most corrupt manager from a list of 10 that this guy told him in confidence. Any guesses who the most is (he told me that one but not the others)? Should be pretty obvious when you think about it, but here's the clue - his son works for sky...

He also said it's common for these managers to play a player because they agree to share the appearance fee with them. Sickening stuff tbh.

Always amazes me the risks and lengths rich people will go to for more money.

This
I will never understand people who has money and they will die without using all the money they have and still they want more. Like the politicians here in the US, spending a fortune to get a seat in the congress so they they can use the insider trading info to make more money.

It's disgusting that said players might be completely out of form, but you are playing them for your own gains while putting the future of the club at risk because you could be picking a better team.

Cant believe he bad mouthed William and Harry. The rest of the stuff is par for the course but leave the lads out of it. Hopefully hanging for treason is still a thing.

You need a neck for that, to be fair.

Will he go back to Sunderland?

That's how corruption happens, it looks unbelievable from the outside, but that means nothing. This is nothing new, it's how the world has worked forever.

"Big revelations!" on Sky... has a look on Telegraph bung videos on some assistant manager at Barsnley, Hasselbank and the Leeds owner. Expected it to be championship no marks really, nothing is exposed at the top and they give us the suspense there is.

I've watched all three videos now regarding Hasselbaink, Cellino and Tommy Wright.

I don't think this is particularly groundbreaking if I'm honest. As far as I can tell, Wright is the only person who has done something illegally. The other two have just come across as twats.

I'm reading the Hasselbaink story now and while it's perhaps not illegal, if I'm reading it right it's still quite fishy and suspect. He ultimately looked like he'd be buying players for the purpose of getting money for it from another company...that's a possible compromising influence in that said players could be shite and Hasselbaink would still sign them anyway to get more money. Fans have a right to know this even if it isn't illegal.

Wasn't there some Far Eastern group who were interested in buying Leeds at the beginning of the season?

"The Telegraph began investigating corruption in English football last year after receiving information that specific managers, officials and agents were taking or receiving cash payments to secure player transfers. Over the coming days the Telegraph will detail how:

  • The assistant manager of a high-profile football club accepted a £5,000 cash “bung”
  • Ten managers were named by players’ agents as taking bribes to fix player transfers
  • Two well-known managers discussed becoming ambassadors for the same fictitious firm as Sam Allardyce
  • Another high-profile manager admitted his players broke FA rules by betting on their own games but he failed to report it
  • A senior figure at a Premier League club helped undercover reporters to formulate a plan to bribe managers"
Hope it is not someone from United.....

It was obvious reading this, that most of the rest will be lower league

pl is mentioned once in what they were advertising to reveal

I suspect there are probably some big, big names involved in this sort of stuff, or who at least had some knowledge of it themselves, somewhere down the line that we won't hear about.

Everyone seems mighty put out by this. Personally it just feels like England dodged a bullet, despite all Allardyce's enthusiastic endorsements from... Mark Noble.

Well, as much as you can be said to have 'dodged a bullet' when the two possible outcomes are 'somewhat underperforming' and 'badly underperforming'.

The Telegraph were billing it up to be top flight managers etc, the assistant manager of Barnsley... really.

I'd presume there's still a bit more to come. It'll be mildly underwhelming but any genuinely massive, massive names probably have their name covered on this one.

It wasn't going to be any bigger than Sam honestly. If it was they would have already released the others. Weird though, I would have expected bigger clubs to be caught up in this but they're probably just too smart.

£1m pay off to Fat Head Allardyce?!!!! Making a mockery of the game and a laughing stock of the FA!

First he makes a fortune from the game from clubs sacking him because he's crap and now he's getting a fortune for doing dodgy deals!

He's laughing all the way to the bank...again.

Seeing all this undercover reporter stuff, I would absolutely love to see how conversations went down regarding the Bebé transfer.
