Surveillance Draft

:nono:

My favourite PL21 moment.

You do realise both goals start with crosses from his flank, don't you?

That aside, he looks awesome in that clip, but that's not the norm for him on the left while I have him right up there on the right.

This. I hate seeing him on the left to be honest, half the player IMO.

Half the player is abit of an exaggeration. He's a world class left back imo and just a tad better on the right. Going forwards huge threat down the left but defensively better in RB position.

Hate seeing him at DM, not enough body of work justifying him being used in that position for draft purposes where he is inevitably playing in games which he will be out of his depth.

Because I never resort to hyperbole ;) Let's put it this way: in an all-time context he is final worthy on the right, not on the left. Better?

Did I understood you right that you think his attacking output as a left back is superior to a right back version? Strange if so, but I probably misunderstood you here

Not better just saying on the left I thought his attacking output was very eye catching and quite natural but his positioning as a defender in that position wasn't quite all time great quality. For example he could cut in and shoot in a way that Evra and Cole never could so it gave him a dangerous dimension which he loses at RB.

At right back he was quality going both ways and that's why people rate him higher in that position.

Whether he was better going forward at LB than at RB is up for debate, I haven't seen enough of him at RB to recall any memorable attacking displays from him so I can't say but i recall seeing him being an excellent support player at RB during all the big Bayern games due to his crossing ability but not sure if he's been a match winner in his own right from there. Happy to be pointed in the right direction here with some good footage.

I consider Lahm as a 'defensive RWB' like Vogts :D
Actually not a bad shout, although being quite different in terms of style from one another. Vogts was more direct, relied on pace and acceleration and whipped some excellent crosses as well as some goals to boot. Lahm is much more technical and relies more on his brain and quick thinking when going forward.

Essentially both could provide very good support for the winger/wide midfielder, but IMO won't be optimal being the ones running up and down the flank solely providing that width on the right.

I'm surprised by the Lahm pick but makes entire sense given the constraints. Just really happy that Thuram didn't go.

This is why I am happy with my Maldini pick over other options I had. A lot of his best teammates wouldn't even make it back to me for rd2 anyway while anyone picking a piece of that Milan dynasty is going to be limited as well.

You can add Ronaldinho and Ronaldo to the list.

Picking Maldini needs no justification.

In these type of Drafts, it's also important to take a long view giving yourself room for upgrades in reinforcement rounds. With the blocks a straight upgrade will not always be possible. So we need to give room for maneuvering for later too.

Maldini is the greatest LB and could play as a CB if necessary. Hard to take a better decision!

Oh yeah , I wasn't even thinking of them. I always forget he was still there in 08/09. Crazy how long Maldini ended up playing.

 Literally just PMd prath his name.

Haha he doesn't block too many players I'd really consider so not a bad pick even though it's abit early in a normal draft.

never before has someone's personality off the field mattered so little due to his performance on the field. Keane is Maybe the most irreplaceable player man utd have ever had.

Which makes for an interesting topic. Which players were the most irreplaceble after they quit?

C ronaldo

Lahm
Thuram
Nesta
Maldini

Desailly
Roy Keane
Zidane

Messi
Ronaldo
Ronaldinho

Strong first XI so far!

I can think of one other but can't name them yet.

Yeah possibly. Prath just came online, last discussions. fecking peanut stole my pick though.

That's the thing with this draft. One stolen pick and all plans go out the window. Can only really plan as far ands your next pick.

Pity he wasn't a bit tighter in the next game...

Yeah that was a quick hero to zero moment for him. I was supporting Spain mainly because of Villa, loved him at Valencia around that time (best striker in the world for me for that period) so was pretty chuffed. A drab final to cap a great tournament. Turkey literally had every single game as a blockbuster story and Russians spoiled it a bit by knocking out what was the best team in the tournament in Netherlands. A Spain-Netherlands SF would have been awesome but the idiots choked too early.

Yeah I remember every second of that game, I agree with your initial comment, just any excuse to post that goal. :D
