Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

The fact that it's uncharacteristic has nothing to do with the reason he's doing it. It's uncharacteristic because he doesn't normally operate like this.

so sad to see o shea go....

just announced on SSN that Matt Mills (who??) is being signed by Leicester from Reading for 5 million

i know wages play a part and that but as usual we are underselling O Shea and Brown i reckon

Matt Mills is 24, Brown and O'Shea are 30+

£1m? What the feck? He's still only 31 and a top defender.

Silvestre was the same age and went for 750k
both played 361 games for united

Tweety was error prone, Brown is injury prone

Hope he has a great career at Sunderland

The low fee is a thanks for the years of service. Its what we have done with many players int he past

"Wes has been a great asset to the club during the most successful period in its history," the boss told ManUtd.com.

"He was a product of the youth system and marked himself out from an early age as one of his generation’s most natural defenders.

"In his time with us, he certainly became a favourite with the fans for his no-nonsense approach to the game and his infectious personality.

"It’s always the hardest of decisions to let loyal servants go. But life moves on and, unquestionably, Wes will get the chance to make a real contribution to Steve Bruce’s Sunderland and I’m delighted to be passing him into such good hands.

"Everyone connected with United wishes him a long and happy stay at Sunderland."

Wesley was in the final year of his contract, and surplus to requirements. United will also save a couple of Million in salary.

He also called SAF a cnut last summer

As has been said, this was only ever alleged, I'm surprised it carries so much weight on here.

Someone (I think Adz?) also said he knows his family and would have heard had anything like this happened and caused a rift; I very much doubt the authenticity of this rumour.

I'm glad Sir Alex has shown balls. That's what makes him the greatest. He could do the easy things but he is willing to change everything to make us the best club in Europe/World football

United defender Wes Brown has joined Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats.

Sir Alex Ferguson wished Brown all the best with his move to the North East and hailed his contribution to the club.

"No doubt we didn't let Wesley go lightly, but we decided it was in the best interest for him and all the staff as it's considered bad luck having two Wesley's in the same team.

 Nice try.

I think O'Shea would be better utilized as a CB for a team like Sunderland.

£1m WTF - too cheap.

Better money than I thought we'd get for him. He's 32 in October and as Opta noted, he's only averaged 17.8 league apps per season. I've alwys been a fan but in truth he's always been a crock. If he wasn't I doubt we'd have let him go.
