Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

gibbo is decent. for instance, fletch could never score like gibbo did in a cl qf crunch match against bayern.

the difference IMO was fletch was given 100 games when we were relatively shit so he could get experience.

gibbo is coming through at a time where we are winning trophies left, right, and centre and it is much tougher to break through.

Fletch was never a star and he will probably never be. On the other hand he had one thing in his favor ie he covered alot of pitch. Gibson has nothing in his arsenal apart from his shot. That's not enough to make it at this level.

Brown having his medical as we speak deal will be confirmed tomorrow

Yep just announced by the BBC.Going to take little getting used to next season without also Scholes,Neville and maybe O'shea

I came to a decision pretty early. Looks like Fergie agreed with it.

Yet it isn't Fletcher's role to score goals. He offers us a lot besides.

What else besides pot-shots from distance does Gibson offer?

His passing ability is very good, that was clearly evident in his last few outings for us.

Manchester United defender Wes Brown is expected to have a medical at Sunderland on Wednesday evening as manager Steve Bruce edges closer to another summer signing.

Press Association Sport understands the 31-year-old has travelled to Wearside and will have the checks with a view to completing his move within the next 24 hours.

The Black Cats had a joint bid of more than £12million for Brown and United team-mates John O'Shea and Darron Gibson accepted last month and have been working on the proposed deals ever since.

Given that this is the 1st real full working week since players & clubs have been back training etc i'd expect the 3 of them to be Sunderland players by Monday next. Wes being the 1st out of the blocks tomorow.

Imagine next seasons without all those homegrowns :( no more Neville, Scholes, Brown, O'Shea, Gibson. It will take forever to build another United core like that.

Gutted to see both of them leave although can understand Brown much more-so than Sheasy. I'd guess he must want to move so he can play every week - something he's never really had at United. I always thought he'd have been a one club player, though.

I'd worry that with so many players leaving that came through the academy the team will lose some of its identity and spirit. It seems an unnecessary risk at a time with so many youngsters coming in that we're phasing out such a large percentage of the veterans. Will Phil Jones or Fabio, for example, have the same temperament playing away to Arsenal with the title on the line when you've got a Champions League semifinal looming in midweek? Plus we really are short of quality options after the twins at right-back.

Reckon Brown's move is more about his bust up with Fergie.

Maybe Sheasy read the caf thread on himself and decided he clearly was shit and not United quality so he's leaving.

I blame some of you muppets.

Thats a lot of United 'ethos' lost at one shot - Scholes, Neville, O'Shea and Brown. Giggs is still there though and the likes of Rio, Rooney, Fletcher, Carrick and Vidic will be the new core. Evra's been here forever as well. Most importantly, as long as Fergie's around, the attitude will remain the same.

It does hurt loosing so many in one year though. I never thought we'd see O'Shea in another shirt.

just like we never thought beckham would leave us too....... its sad to lose so many of our homegrown players who come through our youth ranks at the club.

I wouldn't loss too many sleep with Gibson and Brown going. O'Shea, on the other hand, didn't expect that coming, but then he was often one of our worst player in the field so not much loss really.

Me neither, we better get used to it though as he has a good 4 maybe 5 years of football in him yet. He'll do well at Sunderland.

Or Asrenal!!

I actually hope he goes to Arsenal for himself. He'll start every game and IMO would improve their defence no end. He deserves to finish his career at a better club than bloody Sunderland. I don't think Arsenal are in a position to worry us next year so I wouldn't mind to see this if he does have to go.

only if we can have nasri in return....:D

O'Shea was always loyal and his universal approach made him a United's small legend, already. He will be missed, can't deny that.

Wesley's really needs a first team football... He looked very shaky, because lack of it... In Sunderland, he will get many chances that will certainly help him.

I just don't understand selling O'shea?? Unless the player himself wanted to leave.

goal.com referred to brown's transfer as a 4m transfer - if that's the transfer fee, i think we got a good deal

I've seen it all now. Gibson United quality, fecking hell fire.

He's a decent player, capable of the odd cracking game, but offers nothing in United's set up. Every player, good or bad, has a cracker in them every now & then. Surplus to requirements and rightly so.

Excuse me whilst I lol to death!

Disagree with that Fletch can and does score in crunch games FACT

Yep - few remember he scored twice in the 4-3 win over City when Owen took all the glory. Scored a couple against Arsenal and Chelsea in his time as well, not to mention a knockout round goal against Milan.

I am absolutely gutted here. Both players are great great players, it's truly a sad day for Manchester United that they're leaving.

Good luck at Sunderland boys, we'll certainly miss you.

We still have Fletcher, Evans and Giggs. Cleverley and Welbeck will join the ranks while Pogba and Morrison may get some matches.

I can't suss you out. Are you a WUM or just delusional? Paul Scholes was a "great great player". Not Wes Brown and John O'Shea.

Moving on... I'm sad that we are selling O'Shea. A very likable fellow and he has a lot to offer us IMO. Fergie probably has a youngster in mind to take up the "jack of all trades" role in the team. He usually plans the sale of players pretty well and John is getting on a bit. But still his service to us is underrated as is Brown's.

Gibson and Brown are surplus and its probably in their best interest to move on and get regular games.
