Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

He isnt on 80k
there were reports that he would sign an extension and he would be on that amount. Noone believed it and it never happened.

There is no way he will triple his wages at sunderland either.
He's probably on 50-60k and wouldnt get any more than that at Sunderland.. Might even take a cut

JOS is on (relatively) shit money at United, he'll tripple his wages at Sunderland.

Good luck to him, I wish him all the best.

How do you figure that. Even if he started on £20k a year with an annual pay rise of 10% he'd be on £55~k a week (that's without any renegotiated pay bump).

I'd say £60k wouldn't be too far off, Sunderland would probably match it due to the low(ish) fee.

Bruce: We're inches away from duo

By ESPNsoccernet staff

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has returned from his family holiday in Portugal to confirm to ESPNsoccernet that the club are closing in on Manchester United duo Wes Brown and John O'Shea.

Looking like they'll be no longer Utd players in a day or two so.

A pity but things like this has to be done i suppose.

All seems to be gone quite on the Gibson front?

So the Gardner buy means no Gibson for Sunderland.

Maybe Fergie had a rethink and decided to stick with Gibson and abandon any plans to bring in a new central midfielder....

Gonna miss Brown, true hero. Still remember his debut, 13 years ago. Shame about all his injuries.

Wes :(

Yet the one that most want us to sell remains :(

They signed Gardner who is a very similar goalscoring midfielder, reckon that transfer might effect the Gibson one?

It now emerges that not only does Niall Quinn see both deals happening but also manager Steve Bruce is confident deals can be struck for O'Shea and Brown in the next 48 hours.

John O'Shea would be a great addition to our defence and also Wes Brown, who has been strongly linked to Stoke and Everton, as talks seem to have progressed quickly in the last day or so.

Bruce told ESPNsoccernet: 'Yes, it looks good, we are very close, Wes is travelling up for talks and we hope to also speak with O'Shea. I would say we are inches away.'

The deal for Darron Gibson seems less likely as we still discuss his personal details and he may need to lower some demands before Sunderland finalise any deal.

Wasn't it Sean who said Gibson is likely to be used in an money+player exchange for Rodwell?

First time in 20 years that we won't have an Irish player?

So in few words Sunderland are taking Wes and OShea but not Gibson? Well they are not as stupid as we thought them to be.

It makes sense. He's such a great talent.

I think Gibson will be retained until we sign another midfielder incase we fail to sign one.. Or like Sean said probably may be used in the possible Rodwell deal he spoke of..

So sheesy and Brown are going to Sunderland for how much combined? £10m?

£7M seems about right if the theories of the breakdown prices were correct - O'Shea £5M, Gibson £5M and Brown £2M.

Because the likes of lee catermole can do what gibson did against schalke.

Players like Catemole and Gibson should never step foot in Carrington unless they are hired to clean our players boots. They are both average talent.

I've seen it all now. Gibson United quality, fecking hell fire.

He's a decent player, capable of the odd cracking game, but offers nothing in United's set up. Every player, good or bad, has a cracker in them every now & then. Surplus to requirements and rightly so.

I will miss the thread: Darron Gibson - is he good enough? Its was so informative.

Took 5283 opinions and yet we didnt come to a conclusion. In one Fergie swoop, might be decided for us.

gibbo is decent. for instance, fletch could never score like gibbo did in a cl qf crunch match against bayern.

the difference IMO was fletch was given 100 games when we were relatively shit so he could get experience.

gibbo is coming through at a time where we are winning trophies left, right, and centre and it is much tougher to break through.

Looks like Brown has gone; the lad did us proud over many years of service.

He's Big and Bad.

:(

I came to a decision pretty early. Looks like Fergie agreed with it.

Yet it isn't Fletcher's role to score goals. He offers us a lot besides.

What else besides pot-shots from distance does Gibson offer?
