Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

I might be wrong but wasn't Sheesy on £80k, Brown on £50k and Gibson? £30k?

Sounds about right, and now if you consider De Gea is reportedly on £90grand, Jones about £30grand and Young on £130grand it would make sense to tighten the wages a bit more, even after Scholes and van der Sar retiring.

He could have the second best agent though.

He'd need this guy as his agent to convince SAF and Gill to give him 130k a week and make him our 2nd highest paid player:

Been floating around he's on roughly that amount quite a bit, believe what you want.

It's not been "floating around", it was just in the Sun, which also insisted that we paid 20m for Young, which is a load of bollocks.

Heard there may be some white smoke regarding the JOS transfer on Wednesday. Sunderland are still "trying hard", JOS had his first child at the weekend which hs obviously affected negotiations. Thats from an interview from Niall Quinn this afternoon which hasnt been released yet.....

Congrats on the baby

bruce will this week try and seal the deal for the 3 of them if possible.

Apparently O'Shea is being valued at only 3Mil

:lol::lol::lol:

Double it

£3m isn't enough for him if you just consider the transfer fee. However when you take his wages into account it is unlikely many teams will go above £4-5m.

.

3M is cheap for OShea.

The main thing is he is in the last year of his contract.

Either we sell him and get something or lose him on a free next year. That's why the price is so low.

Do you really think O'Shea would walk away on a free? I think he'd be more than happy to sign an extension, so I don't think losing him for nothing is a real danger.

Agreed.

funny how though we must pay more for players on their last year of contract, 3m is too little for O'Shea imo....

O'Shea is still only 30. pity to see him leave. wonder why Fergie does not want him anymore.

Think Fergie'd be fine with having O'Shea at age 30, it's ages 32, 33, 34, etc that he's not keen on, and if he doesn't want to extend O'Shea's contract, then it only makes sense to sell him now while we can still get something for him.

Is this old news? Apologies if it is.

And to continue in my controversial theme, I am totally non-plussed if he goes. I have never believed he was United quality and I believe that SAF is looking to up the quality of his squad. No place for O'Shea.

We sold Phil Neville for next to no money and I believe he was far greater a talent than O'Shea and a very good utility player. I don't expect much for O'Shea.

Do we still not think its time to open separate threads for the 3 players? Its quite obvious that all 3 of them are not 100% sure on going to Sunderland..

bugger bye bye o'shea :( seem like brown has no interest in joining sunderland judging from quinn comment.

sorry to see JOS go. he's been a loyal servant and the sort of player that you need in a long league season. Never heard him moan once during his time at United even when he wasnt gettin games. and a much underrated player. never forget his winner at Anfield and the chip at highbury in the keane/viera game. he'll be an asset to whoever he joins

If O'Shea goes that leaves us with 3 specialist full backs, we'll be in almost as bad a position as we are in CM, I can't understand this sale.

Because that's where he's played most of his career. I'd much rather him than shoehorning Evans or Smalling into that position.
i agree

the thought of Evans being our leftback during an injury crisis doesnt fill me with confidence

o shea gives you that bit of stability and security even if he isnt the best offensively

Why does O'Shea's departure deprive us of a "specialist full-back"?

thats where he's mostly played.

Imagine if next season, Rio gets injured for the same amount of time that he was last season (half a season)

presumably then Smalling would replace him.

now further consider how much time Rafael and Fabio spent out injured

Who replaces them?

It also means that Evra is a shoe-in to play pretty much every game, regardless of his poor form

I understand players move on, and perhaps Fergie thinks its right to give O'Shea a place where he's guaranteed to play every match. But for me, it doesn't make sense unless we bring another full-back in.

I wouldn't like to go through the season with Evans and Jones as the replacement fullbacks. Doesn't inspire confidence! Especially in a season where a new young goalkeeper is bedding in.

Evans, Jones and Smalling are young players who need games to help their development. Evans has played a good few games for NI at full-back and Smalling has previously played there for United. Absolutely no reason their development couldn't match that of Brown and O'Shea, as players comfortable at full-back or in central defence.

We've also previously seen the likes of Valencia, Fletcher, Hargreaves and Giggs help out very effectively at full-back from time to time. It's a position that doesn't require anything like the same degree of specialisation as central defence, or central midfield.

I find it bizarre that people who were amongst the most critical of O'Shea while he was still at the club, are now critical of the decision to sell him.

I guess some people just like to criticise.

I can't believe so many people will be upset to see him go. He's not in Fergie's plans for the future, that's good enough for me.

And let's be honest, when we see him on the team sheet, we don't all think "fecking yes! O'Shea is playing"

Get a grip everyone ffs.

Thank God for the reality check.

It seems sometimes in here being a fan means you must love everybody.

O'Shea is not and has never been "quality".

In fact, I hope he signs for Arsenal..... that would make me laugh more.

Fergie generally times the sales of players well. It's rare that he regrets letting someone go.

I totally agree with that, plus its not as if we're getting a big money offer for him that we cant refuse.

I'm a bit baffled by it.

Tell you what though, if I were Wenger I'd be all over him, they're crying out for an experienced defender and for 3-4million he couldn't go wrong.
