Summer Transfers

What I think we need.

Attacking Midfielder - Ball playing, creative midfielder who can unlock defenses either with his passing or his dribbling and short interplay with our forwards. Ideal candidate - Gotze / Munian / Hazard / Modric

Anchor Midfielder / Deep laying playmaker - Ball winner, strong tackler, someone who can provide the outlet pass and also cover the back four. Ideal - Javi Martinez / M'Villa

Striker - A big man who provides a threat on set pieces, corners and can finish crosses. Would be an additional bonus if he has a good touch. Ideal choice - Llorente / Cavani.

Left / Right Back - Someone who can challenge Evra for what seems his tenured position. Fabio could maybe do the job but he's injured 300 days out of the year it seems...Ideal candidate - Leighton Baines / Aly Cissokho.

Centre Back - Someone with experience at the highest level to provide cover if either Vida / Rio are injured long term. Smalling and Jones both far too raw to play a major portion of the season without experience and it's risky given Rio / Vida's injury record. Ideal - Vertonghen / Mamadou Sakho.

We'll probably end up signing none of these players...but there you go. That's my dream list.

We don't need a center back and we don't need a striker. The Rest I agree with. Vida's injury was rare, and If we really would've wanted a striker, then Berbs would've played more.

Also I don't the need of signing Sakho when we already have three young center backs, funny how you mentioned experience at the highest level then mentioned Vertonghen/Sakho both of whom have played minimal Champions League, I think Sakho haven't even played Champions League.

Your ideal candidate for Left Back is Aly Cissokho? Really?
He has been in absolutely awful form for Lyon and even Lyon are contemplating getting rid of him and cutting their losses.

Javi Martinez is not a strong tackler and ball winner, he's a Carrick type midfielder although I would love to sign him however Herrera has impressed me more than him.

Javi Martinez is the player we need above all. He would settle our midfield and provide more depth at CB should an injury crisis arise. He will be the best defender in the world at some point soon. Spain are just embarrassingly loaded with talent at the moment.

Herrera is very gifted too, but I feel Martinez is what we need more.

We definitely need another option at LB, maybe Evra will benefit from the competition/rest.

From there it's harder to say depending on if there are any plans to change to a regular 4-3-3 and prioritise the Champions League.

FFS, are people really suggesting we should be signing 5 new first-team players next summer? Dream on...

If we bring in players in crazy numbers like that, we may as well completely disband our academy/reserves. What incentives is their for the likes of Pogba to stay with the club when we go on spending sprees like that every few years?

Of course, this is all moot because there's not a snowballs chance in hell of Fergie signing that many players. Rightfully so.

Great aren't they?

Of course, you're not getting the full comedy value without two columns, headed "IN" and "OUT" as well as a breakdown of all the various transfer fees.

I'm wondering if Devilton is on a wum here. According to him we need a whole new team near enough :wenger:

I dread to think what will happen should we not win the league now. In fact, should we not win the league then I'm demanding a full breakdown with two columns!

Aly Cissokho is shit and Baines is not good enough. Next.

What I can see happening:

OUT: Macheda, Owen, Park, Berbatov

IN: Hoilett, Rodwell

If Anderson leaves, then another midfielder.

The young ones will be a year older and if Fletcher comes back that would leave us in a decent shape. Hopefully City won't buy a top class centre back or 2.

We got completely outclassed by Bilbao and you're thinking about needing to be better than Barca? :wenger:

Ok add Reo Coker to that list and we'll be terrifying.

We need a central midfielder and that's the height of it really. Someone who is technically good, moves the ball quick, is good at retaining the ball and dictating the tempo of the game. Basically an improved Spanish Carrick.

Ok add Reo Coker to that list and we'll be terrifying.

I've seen you make a hundred variations of the exact same joke now.

More realistic than the £400m overhaul going on in devilish fantasy land, let me know how that goes.

Wow is that the money you need to spend to get Ander and Javi Martinez? I was thinking more in the region of 60m which, considering that we're selling Berba (10m) and probably Park (7m), should go around 40m-50m mark. Its still a big sum of money though, but it has the potential to sort the team for half a decade and CM for around 12 yrs. That's value isn't it?

However Holliett can still do the job. We just need another winger to sort CM.

The last time I checked this forum it was about Manchester United and not Bolton Wanderers

Yes, because the list comprising Cavani, Martinez, Muniain and Sakho is more realistic for United than Hoilett and Ba.

Like feck we're going to get £7m for 31-year old Park who is good at pretty much nothing right now and for whom we paid £4m when he was in his prime.

Apart Martinez none of them is needed at OT. Ba is decent though at 7m but not first priority.

I think many have failed to acknowledge that the problem is in CM and not defense, flanks or forward line. Maybe I should add a GK to that list. Someone British with a name that that top reds love.....Foster maybe?

And please, stop with Herrera and Martinez. We're going to sign neither of them, hopefully both will stay at Athletic because that club deserves to keep their best players but if they leave, it won't be value - not after they've been on the spotlight after Man Utd ties.

If some homeless guy who can't cross or dribble can fetch 7m......

I agree that we basically need one or two midfielders to do well but in all honesty, we've needed that for years and I don't expect us to all of a sudden go on a spending spree to address that. I fully expect 'happy with the squad' comment by mid-July and it'd be fair enough because our team is good.

Why not? Are Athletico Bilbao's players out of reach for us too? We're talking about the 6th club in La Liga and not Real Madrid.

Dont forget that many of these players have minimum clauses which were agreed prior to our humilating defeat.

Knowing Spain they are set at something silly anyway. Martinez already has City and Barcelona watching him and I fully expect Herrera to be a subject of interest of plenty top sides as well.

And it's not fecking Atheltico Bilbao, have some respect and learn their proper name.

We certainly cant keep on relying on the old guard to hold the line. What need to be done to force SAF's hand to open the cheque book? Dont forget that if its true that Ander and Herrera have a minimum clause of around 30m then they are value indeed.

I'd expect £30m to be well above what we're willing to pay for a virtually unproven youngsters anyway.

Okay then, £20m for Henderson means Herrera is going to cost £63m.

You'll have to see his minimum fee clause first which is rumored to be around 33m. Value

So we stick to Scholes and Giggs then. They'll certainly not unproven. Meanwhile we can get the likes of Holliett etc to groom them for the role. That tactic has served us well didn't it?

Id rather spend 60m on these two 'unproven' players then 40m on Sneijder (injury prone) or Modric. At least these 'unproven' players are young, hungry, have talent and know each other style well.

why no? a very good cover for Evra. no doubt about it.

Don't think he defends that well. He can cross the ball and take free kicks. We complain about Evra's defending. Also what's all this love for Rodwell by some, I don't think he progressed hoe he should and always seems to disappoint, Everton fans aren't too keen on him.

If he refuse us to go to Shitty then he's short sighted and if goes to Barca then he's stupid. The former are money bags the latter are so much stocked of CM that he'll probably end up playing with Barcelona B. We're Manchester United FFS. We should be able to attract these sort of players.
