I do not think he is useless. His physicality will definitely be of use. His presence will be needed during the season. He is good at set pieces, can play as a target man, etx. He will not beat opponents single-handedly and he will hardly start half of our games but he can add something to our squad...
Myth

Experienced centre half wanted. Miranda at Inter would be my hunch.

I wonder what Thiago Silva's contract situation's like. Would we be able to get him at a reasonable price?

Is he still good in real life or just on FIFA?

PSG wouldn't sell Thiago Silva for reasonable price, we would have to pay them a ridiculous amount of money.

I think we are covered pretty well at the moment, Smalling and Bailly will be our first choice paring and Blind did more than good enough job there last season..

That's not enough.

That may be your opinion, but it's not Mourinho's opinion - apparently he wants an experienced Centre Back and have Jones, Smalling and Bailly compete to partner this experienced Centre Back. Blind will probably be sold, along with Rojo.

But every time he is asked about transfers he says that he wanted four and that's going to be Bailly, Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and a midfielder, most likely Pogba.

If he wanted an experienced centre back he'd have bought one already, instead of Bailly.

Well, sorry mate, but I do not agree with you. He did the job for Everton for 3 years playing like that and he still can do it. I do not think LVG played him to his strengths. Again I am not saying that he will be a starter or a very important player but he still can do a job for this club almost no one else in the squad cannot...

That was said before he had seen Jones or Rojo kick a ball.

The job - for what level?
For Everton - We are not Everton neither are we managed by Moyes
For 3 years - which is now 6 years ago.

Since then, he has been used by Moyes again, LvG and Wilmots in varying positions and sysyems to no success whatsoever and guess what, they were all fired!

He's said it a few times, most recently in China so after the Wigan game and seeing them in training for a while.

He could change his mind of course but atm he seems pretty adamant that our major business will be done once we've signed either Pogba or an alternative midfielder.

I do not want to argue with you, I understand you opinion but I do not agree with you. I think he can do a job for us if he is used to his capabilities and he can be useful. I am not saying that he should be a starter nor I am saying that we should depend on him but we can use him in the 75th minute of our game against West Brom when we need a presence in our box to protect us from long balls or we can use him as a target man when we are chasing a result or when we need a dirty player in our midfield in a single game. He will not be our main man as he was for Everton but he can help when his physique is needed...That is what I meant

I'm not at all arguing with you and I appreciate where you're coming from. I just don't think we would suffer without him, that's all!

I hate how people go on about physicality and height etc etc nowadays. Look at some of the best teams and players over the last 20 years such as Barcelona, AC Milan defenders such as Baresi and Maldini, our great midfielders like Keane and Robson. Why don twe wign the Undertaker or Big Bird. The only really imposing player I can remember in our last few great teams was Stam.

Sorry Fellaini is utter shite

Maybe that simply means he wants an experienced defender just like he did at Chelsea with Terry

That's probably it to be honest.

Just made me think as I suspect any centre back we sign will be in their thirties and relatively cheap. A short term measure really to help the others.

It can't be Terry

Even Jose was actively trying to replace him at Chelsea.

With Chelsea and even now with us (See the Bailly signing ),Jose seems to want to play a high line defense . You can't do that with Terry .

Big Dunc has just put this article out on twitter again with the title 'Mourinho wants to add experienced central defender' and a picture of him hugging John Terry. A coincidence I'm guessing.
Obvious baiting from Desperate Dunc.

Didn't Mourinho drop Terry in his last season at Chelsea?

Yes, absolutely. I agree 100% with that. Had he not been here I would have never wanted him. I am just saying that he can still do a decent job. If somebody wants to pay 25-30 million quid for him, personally I will carry him to the buyer...

feck sake egg head.

I think its obvious that our central defenders is quite poor, but if we did not feel we could go for Smalling and Bailly, why did we buy Bailly? If we buy an experienced central defender there will be, including Jones, four players infront of Tuanzebe and Williams. How can we expect to develop these talents then?

Oh, and btw, Pepe is probably the experienced defender.

People need to read the article - the picture may be unfortunate but he isn't even trying to hint that it could be JT. He cites numerous examples of the experience Jose usually likes in defence.

Well, mate, first of all Barcelona do not play in the Premiership where 5-6 teams revert to long balls most of the time. Even Barca have used Pique as a centre forward towards the final minutes of some games due to his physical presence...That is what I am talking about.
Secondly, Maldini was a very strong physical player,, especially for a left back and he played the first 10 years of his career as a left back. Baresi was a really smart player, basically they both were. As far as the strong physical players, I do not mean that we need somebody who is above 2 metres, I am talking about physical presence. Saying that only Stam was our only player of that stature is not right in my opinion. Have you forgotten Rio, Vida, Pallister, Johnsen, etc., even Ronaldo was/is very dangerous on set pieces. Keano and Robbo, who you have mentioned were very strong physically as well. They had tremendous stamina and had huge physical presence in a game. We lack that at the moment. Fellaini is shite, I totally agree but still can do a job for us. As I have already mentioned if somebody wants to pay 20-30 million for him personally, I will bring him to the buyer...
