Jordan Amavi is a very talented left-back, who got injured at the start of the last season. He didn't turn down better wages, didn't have much of a chance to impress at Aston Villa due to his injury and is now probably hoping that some club is going to sign him, since he's otherwise going to play in the Championship. Did the move help his career? He's played for France's under 21s. He could have waited for a better club, which would have made more sense long-term. I'm merely saying that going for the money that the EPL clubs offer isn't necessarily the best career choice.

Probably not, no. However West Ham aren't Aston Villa, who are a team who've been struggling against relegation for a while now, had a poor squad and an owner that didn't want to be there. Incomparable situations, as managed and something that's difficult for me to admit as somebody who supports a local rival and therefore doesn't particularly like West Ham, they're only going to be getting stronger over the coming seasons. Villa were a doomed vessel for a while.

How are they bigger exactly? Lyon have shiny new stadium, so West Ham's new one isn't an improvement for him. Do they have more fans? I doubt it. Actually being in the Champions League is something to look forward to for Lyon's players. Most players know they aren't going to win it, doesn't stop them from wanting to play in that competition. West Ham will probably not qualify for Europe next season, since Chelsea and Liverpool are most likely improving. Once he is at West Ham he'll find it more difficult to move on from there. Have you actually seen him? I'm merely saying he's too taletend for West Ham and already good enough for a better club. Also, I completely disagree about the possibility that he might never get a better offer.

Financially and being part of a more prestigious league. I would say on reputation terms they are probably around the same level anyway, West Ham are a club who've got a long, steeped history in what is the most well-know and most watched league in football.

As mentioned, would a players main prerogative - over a big increase in money and the chance to play season after season in the most watched league in the sport - be a sporadic Champions League campaign just to get knocked out in the group stage every year? Like I said there's no guarantee of Lyon qualifying every season anyway because they certainly haven't recently and they will likely always be a selling club.

West Ham have more money but Lyon is the bigger club. If you have aspirations for european football or winning silverware then Lyon is a much better place to be than WH.

The PL is more prestigious but Lyon have champions multiple times even winning it 7 years in a row before PSGs rise to power. They have been in CL 12 times so they are a regular and even the big teams sometimes get knocked out by smaller just look at united for example fetting knocked out by Basel or PSV.

Yeah West Ham might not be challenging for the titles, but let's be realistic, neither are Lyon anytime soon. The French league is as dully non-competitive as it's ever been and PSG have it on lock for the forseeable future. Lyon might win the domestic cup that's about it, but again they're no more favourites on that front than West Ham are to win the FA or League Cup. Lyon haven't won the league for nearly 10 years...

They haven't done anything relevant in the CL for 6+ either. I get that occasionally a team might have a poor campaign, but the last 6 season's I think they've made it through the group just twice? They haven't qualified a couple of teams, got knocked out before the group stage one yeah, by APOEL, finished bottom of a group that contained Gent and an awful Valencia side, they just aren't the team they used to be anymore on that sort of stage.

Jose and Monchi is as good as it gets in relation to their roles.
If our actual signings are as good as those two we would have an incredible side.

Article says contact has increased over the last few hours and he'll also be the "replacement" (more like upgrade) for Bartra, who will leave in the next few days. Marquinhos will naturally partner Pique at CB. The article also mentions offers from us and Chelsea, but Marquinhos prefers to go to Barcelona.

Edit: It only says Barca are ready to go all-out for him and pay €40m for it, but no idea if PSG would even want to sell.

You have to love the cheek of it when our players are reportedly a target of other teams. 18m fecking euros but if Daley Blind played for Barcelona and was possibly surplus to requirements he was cost United 50m euros.
I really do not get why we do not install silly buyout clauses like they tend to do everywhere else. Not saying I believe this rumour but in general I'm curious as to why Martial for example, why didn't we install some ridiculous 180m euro buyout clause in his contract.

In Spain you have to do it because it's the law.

To confirm this tweet and some other one's @carvajal posted:

That's £148.7m fee, £23.2m a year which is £447k a week
The fee I think is justified considering he is the next big thing & got 31 goals + 16 assists last season.
But the wages!!!

Messi is on £256k after tax, tax is 52% means messi gets 517k a week before tax! Neymar is currently on £150k a week before tax meaning he earns £72k after tax. His 447k a week would get him a few hundred shy of £215k a week after tax.

Tax in the uk for Neymar would be 45% meaning to get his 215k a week after tax and if United were to sign him, we would have to pay him £419,250 a week Before tax!!! :wenger:

Crazy numbers! Who does Neymar think he is? The next best player in the world or something?

I think his agent is being too optimistic.

He is the next best player in the world though.

For anyone who wants a quick summary. According to Cadena Cope, Real are in a difficult position because they still really want to sign De Gea but Navas has been great so they don't want to get rid of him on the back of last season. Real therefore want to buy De Gea and loan him back to us for the year.

Rather pay Neymar that, than Rooney his reported wages. Crazy as it is.
