I really hope not. He can do much better than West Ham. Wouldn't help his career at all.
why? It's a good step for him... they finished 6th and played some nice football while being physical, again it's a good move, if he proves he can move on after two season, if he's brilliant could be after one season.. he will earn much more and Whu are bigger club than Lyon...

It's really not. He would earn more money, that's it. How are West Ham bigger than Lyon? He would play Champions League with Lyon, while West Ham probably won't be as good as they were last season.

it's a massive step forward to the premier league form under par french league, the league has much more prestige... shaquiri plays for stoke and so on, "smaller" clubs attracts great players and he's not even on that level yet, you don't get to the champions league ahead of big boys which could smash Lyon unless they fluke it somehow, anyway they managed to cope up with big boys and even end up ahead of Liverpool.. yes it's a step forward for an unproven player.. he would fight a lot of competition in big clubs...

Utter nonsense.

I think it's bollocks - there's no way we'd sell him without adequate replacement. I wouldn't have him starting but he is a great squad player who can fill role of back-up LB, DM, and sometimes CB.

That said, if my memory is correct Barcelona were allegedly interested in him the same summer we signed him.

We'd all be worldies at Barca, never mind Blind. :D

First Mata and now Blind.

Can we throw in Rojo and Fellaini too? Fellaini can teach Messi a few things.
Fellaini at the end of Messi's crosses
Actually, just the thought of Fellaini somewhere else :drool:

Yeah, I'm sure he is thoroughly enjoying Lyon sporadically qualifying for the occasional Champions League campaign, only to get put only knocked out by APOEL or finish below Gent in their group.

This whole thing about CL football is blown way out of proportion. Would he turn down Chelsea next year for Club Brugge because he might get to play in a couple of defeats to a Real Madrid or a Bayern Munich if he's lucky?

Face it, footballers primarily care about money. West Ham have more of it than Lyon, are a club on the up and play in a far more prestigious league.

CL only comes into play when money is even/almost even. Why would a player turn down a massive wage increase just to play in a competition that Bayern/Real/Barca are going to win anyways?

Signing for Chelsea would be an entirely different thing. They'll most likely be better next season, offer more money and he'd have better chances at actually winning something. If he moves I'm fairly sure he'll end up at a better club than West Ham anyway.

It was an extreme example used to explain the point that Champions League football isn't the be-all and end-all for players. . You were arguing that West Ham weren't a bigger team than Lyon, well in many ways they are. That he wouldn't be able to play in the Champions League with West Ham, well they weren't far off this season and Lyon have missed out several times in the last few years and have no guarantee of making it themselves, especially if they end up losing other key players like Lacazette, Fekir, Tolisso.

Maybe he could end up at a better club, maybe not. I would merely say that West Ham is probably a step in the right direction towards getting there and sometimes you have to take these steps - especially when he'll probably see a hefty increase in his wages - and not wait around for something better to come along when there's a possibility it might never happen. There's no reason why he can't go to West Ham, perform as well as he is now but in a tougher league and spark a lot more interest from far bigger clubs than either of these two.

Jordan Amavi is a very talented left-back, who got injured at the start of the last season. He didn't turn down better wages, didn't have much of a chance to impress at Aston Villa due to his injury and is now probably hoping that some club is going to sign him, since he's otherwise going to play in the Championship. Did the move help his career? He's played for France's under 21s. He could have waited for a better club, which would have made more sense long-term. I'm merely saying that going for the money that the EPL clubs offer isn't necessarily the best career choice.

How are they bigger exactly? Lyon have shiny new stadium, so West Ham's new one isn't an improvement for him. Do they have more fans? I doubt it. Actually being in the Champions League is something to look forward to for Lyon's players. Most players know they aren't going to win it, doesn't stop them from wanting to play in that competition. West Ham will probably not qualify for Europe next season, since Chelsea and Liverpool are most likely improving. Once he is at West Ham he'll find it more difficult to move on from there. Have you actually seen him? I'm merely saying he's too taletend for West Ham and already good enough for a better club. Also, I completely disagree about the possibility that he might never get a better offer.

West Ham have more money but Lyon is the bigger club. If you have aspirations for european football or winning silverware then Lyon is a much better place to be than WH.

The PL is more prestigious but Lyon have champions multiple times even winning it 7 years in a row before PSGs rise to power. They have been in CL 12 times so they are a regular and even the big teams sometimes get knocked out by smaller just look at united for example fetting knocked out by Basel or PSV.
