Television Suits

I can actually enter this thread now, after finally catching up from Season 1 to Season 3 in the space of a month.

I've actually loved it all. Looking at the posts, I guess I'm in the minority in which I don't really have any faults with it. It can definitely be overly-dramatic at times, but I really enjoy it. Louis Litt is such a champ  One of the funniest characters ever.

I agree that they should have let Mike settle into his new job before starting the Mike vs Harvey (which I did enjoy).

Any idea if there is talk of season 5? A friend of mine believes the way this is going, it'll be the last one :(

You might be right but the situation here is how Mike felt about that guy (can't remember his name). His past with Rachel was what pissed off Mike so much.

No way in my opinion. It's a very popular show that still has high viewing figures, and they can easily sidestep this dilemna that is currently set up. I see at least one more season in this, with the casualty of Litt leaving the show which I think will lose a lot of spark from it, being the most popular character by a country mile. If Louis does leave then I do hope it does finish there, because I think he is such an important character. We shall see though, it's still a very interesting programme in my eyes, and that is all that I care about in a tv show.

Really enjoyed that episode. It was like Mike being away was just a bad dream. Only 2 more episodes of this season :(
Nah, I believe that they will be going on another mid-season break as they have done the last two years.

That leaves them at ten episodes leading to a twenty episode-series? They've never done one that large before, unless I have missed something saying this is what they will be doing for certain?

This season consists of 16 episodes. They will air the remaining six around winter, probably January.

To be honest, I would rather like a season consisting of 20 episodes where there is a new case every week and Mike can show off his skills than the current platform. One of the reasons why season 1 and 2 were so much better.

I do too, but I think they like to invest more in one major story than do single stories. Makes for more "dramatic" viewing sadly, and loses some of its edge. Still one of my favourite current tv shows though; really enjoying the one-liners the writers pull out, especially for Louis.

It makes sense on their end, unfortunately.

I love the one-liners too, some of them are perfectly executed. The interactions between some of the characters are excellent as well. I'm also loving the references, especially The Wire one in season 3.

Anyone fancy making some sense of this series for me? I'm confused a f*ck as to whats going on. All I know is that the guy from MASH was trying to save his company from the guy that used to bone Rachel, who wanted to break it up and sell it, then the guy from the Dark Knight came along and made them all do bad shit, which now has the guy that looks like Max Headroom chasing them for doing some illegal shit.

That's pretty much it really: Walter Gillis (The guy you think is from M.A.S.H. but isn't) is in danger of his company facing a hostile takeover, and Mike advises him to sell his company otherwise he will lose everything, as his company is in no position to stay where it is. Harvey's client Logan Sanders (Rachel's ex chew-toy), another investment banker who wants a takeover of the company for himself so he can "break it down and sell it for parts" as he puts it. Harvey and Logan get leverage on Mike through certain activities that I can't quite remember actually happened, which left Mike with no-one to invest with. That forces him to go with Forstman (Batman guy) who is dodgy as feck and who eventually screws over Mike.

Awesome, thanks. I fail to see the sense behind making a whole series out of one case. Almost like Ava Hessington from season 3.

It's the writers trying to take a different angle and create drama throughout one long story, whilst introducing the investment banking side of things to shake up the story itself. Everyone on here agrees that one case after the other is far more interesting as you keep track of everything that happens rather than having to backtrack and wonder to yourself " How is Mike on the backfoot?" "When did Harvey and Logan sign a deal before Mike knew?" They cram too many things into one episode for you to remember for the next. The writing is still good though; if that went downhill then the show would be dreadful.

This show resembles Supernatural in the way the story is going. The first two seasons of Supernatural had Dean and Sam on a different case every episode and it was interesting and from season 3 they had long drawn out story lines, which in a way is different but not as exciting I guess. Suits and Supernatural and still two of my favorite shows currently on TV, mind along with Game of Thrones.

I must say, the scene when Harvey is furious with Louis in one of the episodes this season was incredible. The one where Harvey slams the laptop screen shut. I rewatched that scene a good 3 times  Was very good.

feck, I love suits.

I think the song-choosing is also fantastic too. Scrubs was great in which they always knew which song to play at a significant scene or moment. Likewise with Suits. Kudos to that guy.

Previously, on Suits...

One of my favourite scenes was in Season One/Two after a mock trial when Louis took Donna apart on the stand, then Harvey chased him in to the men's room to have a go at him. It was the first time we saw depth to Louis' character when he completely lost the plot at Harvey. Super scene!

That was a good episode. One more to go before the mid season break. I think something bigger is going down next episode.

There is no way Louis is done. They will find a way to bring him back before this season is over. He is a lot of people's favorite character.

What is with these writers and the word "shit". The characters are using it in every single conversation, and it often makes absolutely no sense. I don't have a problem with the word but who the feck says "sure as shit"?

I don't like Jessica. That is all. She might have a good body but her face pisses me off.

And the phrase "throw shit against the wall and see what sticks". Pretty sure that they have said that at least once every season.

Sure as shit is a pretty common turn of phrase.

The annoying word in suits is 'goddam', it's basically their go to anger expletive.

'Fire that goddam kid'
'I'm gonna find out what he goddam did'
'You're goddam right'
'I'm gonna fire his goddam ass'

In North America shit is pretty much one of the most common words you'll hear...

I still like the show. I agree with some of the comments - much prefer the one case per week structure of the first series, and also that they haven't made use of Mike's talent / ability at all recently.

That said, the writing is still very good - love some of the exchanges! I think Harvey and Cahill had some good ones -

Cahill: “Am I smart enough to do that?
Harvey: ‘You’re dumb enough to try.’

and

Cahill: “If it’s an invitation to your birthday party, I’m afraid I’m busy that day.
Harvey: “That’s a shame. I promised the kids a clown.”

I know its not exactly Shakespeare, but I really enjoy watching the show.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Louis - I guess he will be back with the firm, as am sure they would not want to lose his character (unless the actor wanted to leave).

He's not gone. I really don't get the Louis love-in either. He's a good character but nowhere near as good as he was in season one, where he was a devious, clever, evil, nasty bastard. Now he's just a clumsy idiot.

I think his acting is what is getting rave reviews. His character is secondary. His facial expressions are brilliant, especially during funny scenes with Donna or when talking to Norma.

Am I alone in thinking that Gabriel Macht is a good enough actor for his character (Harvey), but they could easily picture an actor who could play him better? I couldn't specifically name an actor, but I can just imagine someone executing some of his lines in a better way.

Give any guy a suit like his and they could play Harvey Specter!! :)
