Television Succession

Has the show actually told us that Ken is bad at the job - beyond his addiction?
I don't know what the writers intend or how they're thinking about it, but if we're supposed to assess it realistically, yeah he's terrible. He doesn't listen to anyone, he's constantly parroting meaningless statements that are 90% buzzwords, he's never shown to be following up on the actual execution of any of their business ideas. But Logan was somewhat like that, so maybe in the show's universe Ken isn't so bad at his job.

She's extremely entitled. She thinks she deserves it all and should be top dog, without actually having the know how or qualifications for it. It's truly remarkable to see.
More than competency it's also how she's always going behind her brothers back. From the start of the show. All the siblings have done terrible things to each other but you really feel Roman and Kendall really care about each other and wouldn't actively betray each other. But Shiv just seems a step away from throwing them under the bus literally every episode.

The show is so focused on the bigger picture, have we seen anyone actually do proper business, aside from schemes and Buzzwords. Even from Logan I mostly only recall that he bought a bunch of TV stations and the rest was mostly damage control and fighting his kids and he's supposedly the legendary fortune builder.

I’d say that she has loyalty to the money, the win, and to a far lesser extent, the company. The boys just have loyalty to a cartoon ideal of making their father proud. Shiv’s actions are the only ones that would make him proud.

After how the Man Utd takeover is currently going, I’m quite tempted to give this a watch just for similarity viewing. Plus heard very good views about it.

Just wondering is the current 4th season the final one?

It is. Yep.

Episode definitely picked up in the second half, I was so nervous about that presentation.

Crossing my fingers for a Pitchbot spin-off.

Yeah they could use some pointers from this guy

The kids are clearly idiots, but I think people are a bit too high on Matsson in this episode. He got one over on the boys, but only by offering so much that the board literally couldn't refuse. He also opened up to Shiv about a massive vulnerability.

Matsson needs to buy it for some reason, he's hiding something for sure.

I thought it fit his character pretty well. He's incredibly self-obsessed, and seems erratic enough to both do something like that and then tell someone about it. There's an angle for sure, but I think the angle is more spiting the boys by making friends with their sister (who they had shut out). I thought maybe he was even trying to recruit her.

Lots of good moments in this one. Con and Rome rating other countries, Ken and Matsson's friendly public confrontation, and of course the explosive ending with Shiv and Tom.

Getting fired by Greg is so ironic. Poor employees.

On another note, I love how Shiv is finally getting shown up. She is an idiot and too full of herself. If she had an ounce of self-reflection she would be the CEO but she has no willingness to stick to any decisions she makes for more than a couple of seconds.

The Slim Reaper

That balcony scene was incredible, but a bit too real. Such good acting

“A bit car bomby”

Matthew Mc Fadyen should clean up all the awards for that.

Shiv and Tom are both horrible but at least Tom is horrible in a lovable sort of way, and he did genuinely love Shiv, whereas he was always nothing to her. So yeah, team Tom.

Great acting but I feel like we’ve seen that scene about three times this season.

The last cut off seeing Tom eyes wide open, looking at the ceiling unable to sleep...dude has to have some other scheming ideas.

Also, Tom still doesn't know about Shiv and the pregnancy...if she still is pregnant.

Nah, that scene has been building from the start of the show. It's simmered and they both fully went for it this time. Brutal stuff.

Might actually be my favorite scene from the show.

I thought Tom's side of the argument much more convincing, because it seems to me like he genuinely loved or loves Shiv and swallowed loads of abuse for it, whereas Shiv betrayed and tortured him from the very beginning of the show.
It was a bit like Tom saying that she's a horrible person and Shiv countering, yeah, but you're lower class than me.

Jesus, I hate Greg.

They're both as vile as each other.

Part of the reason why it's so great watching them. You want to root for someone but it's just so hard!

Don't agree at all. Shiv has never shown she's anything other than a spoilt, power obsessed daddy's girl and she's always bullied Tom. She was even doing it the entire party. Tom at least tried to make the marriage work and cared about her.

Tom really is terrible though. In the first 5 minutes he was mocking the people Greg was firing then is all hurt and thunderclouds when it’s aimed at him. Tom only approached Siv again when Logan died and even then she was the last of the Roy’s he tried to get back in with.
Great writing
