Television Succession

I'd even say Tom would seem like a decent person, if we were to just look at him through the lens of his interactions with Shiv, wouldn't he? They really have to double down on his work related cuntishness to balance out his character.

Another fantastic episode in what is shaping up to be a spectacular final season.

I feel like Shiv is being played by Matsson. He was pointedly non-committal about what kind of position is in store for her and she's proven time and time again throughout the show to be strategically clueless and overconfident.

I found Mattson's whole demeanor this episode a bit difficult to grasp. The way Shiv was coaching him on smalltalking and the way he continually acted like such a gigantic douche on what was supposed to be a charm offensive. He's hard to get a hold of, which makes him a compelling character.

Excited to see where this goes in the last few episodes.

Also, Shiv has been by far the worst in the Tom-Shiv relationship, can't believe that's even a debate.

They're all cnuts but some are more cnuty than others. Shiv is definitely worse than Tom though.

Matthew Mc Fadyen should clean up all the awards for that.

Shiv and Tom are both horrible but at least Tom is horrible in a lovable sort of way, and he did genuinely love Shiv, whereas he was always nothing to her. So yeah, team Tom.
He was outstanding as per.

Insanely good episode. Team Tom always.

Funny how the joke presidential candidate and his prostitute wife are the most functional "loving" relationship in the show.

Absolutely incredible 5 minutes or so on the balcony. I was a bit worried for Tom there, I'll be honest.

How do they wrap this up? It’s been great and I hate when shows are kept going for the money. Maybe it’s because it’s a different type of show that I’m used to, the emotional connection to any of the characters isn’t there and they’ve already used the obvious major death earlier in the season. But I don’t know how they end it from here without it feeling premature.

Jesse Armstrong had mentioned that next week's episode (Episode 8)is the most shocking of the season. Unless Ken's past is dragged up, I'm not quite sure what it could be?

Cam goes on a murderous rampage fuelled by cocaine after losing the campaign, is my guess.

Think Tom is more likely to do that. Either he goes on full destructive mode, or Greg sticks the knife in him.

Yeah, Tom is up to some shit. Think he's had enough and is at the tipping point. Getting embarrassed at his own house by everyone was really shit and he's definitely plotting something.

But also there's Roman and Kendall doing their own thing while trying to one up each other in addition to one upping the old heads (Roman and Geri).

They randomly showed him interacting with his ex wife in this most recent episode. Its been a couple seasons so I thought it was weird they showed her again. Maybe she and his kids will be his downfall or maybe they help him get the big seat some how.

How can they possibly wrap all this up in 3.5 hours

They already showed us a potential exit for most characters:

Ken: Family, overreaching, being Ken
Roman: Gerri, triggering Connor, being Roman
Shiv/Tom: emotional damage, being on the wrong/ no team
Connor: probably foreign minister at this rate

Gary: becoming some exec for the Swedes

I love how Logan's qualities and character traits have been split amongst his 4 kids. Connor has the independent nature, Kendall is ambitious, Shiv is cunning and Roman is witty. Together their good qualities just about makes up one Logan Roy. Plus a myriad of childhood trauma and negative character traits, of course.

None of the kids really stood a chance. You could have given any of them the same business training and follow up as Kendall got and the result would have been the same. It's interesting to imagine a 5th Logan child who has all his qualities and somehow escapes childhood without too many mental scars. Would Logan have entrusted his empire to them? Personally I don't think so.

I honestly cannot call how this will end. There are quite a few different routes they can take here.

They are showing a lot more of Tom in this season, and it just feels he has the biggest part to play.

they have foreshadowed Kendall dying since the show began, with most likely outcome suicide.

Risky to have two major deaths in the final season though. Especially as it's not the type of show you associate deaths with being major plot points, barring the obvious.

I just keep thinking back to that episode where he's on the roof looking over, and by the end Logan has had glass barriers installed to stop people jumping off.

Logan faked his death and is currently dressing up as Ebba. And then Logan and the Swede win and create a glorious Murdoch-Muskian media hellscape.

Tom suicide

There is no way on earth that Kendall kills himself. Won't happen

I feel like the scene in the ocean was him making peace with himself

I read somewhere about election fraud but I don’t know if it’s that shocking in 2023
