Television Succession

This show is so fecking good. The acting and writing is phenomenal

Oh I love this topic - greatest episodes of TV! Off the top of my head:

Better Call Saul - Bagman (the desert episode)
The Leftovers - Lens (Nora and Erika in an acting masterclass); International Assassin (the first underworld episode)
The Sopranos - Pine Barrens; Long-Term Parking (Adrianna episode); I Dream of Jeannie Cusomano (season 1 finale)
The Wire - Middle Ground (season 3, penultimate); That's Got His Own (season 4 penultimate)
Breaking Bad - One Minute (Hank and the twins - possibly the most stressful end of episode I've ever seen); Crawl Space (the one where Walt realizes just how fecked he is and starts laughing maniacally)
Game of Thrones - Blackwater
Mad Men - The Suitcase (Don and Peggy basically in his office for the whole episode, if I remember correctly)
The Last of Us - Long, Long Time
True Detective - Who Goes There (first season episode with the incredible single take during the raid)

Anyway, I'm sure I'm missing some, but those came to me now.
Mr Robot - Proxy Authentication Required is also definitely up there as one of the best episodes of TV.

I've gotten so used to plot armour in television that I was convinced there's a twist coming at the end.

I was not ready for that.

Feck me. What an episode.

Connor has the best line once again. “He never even liked me”, as soon as he heard the news. The acting from Shiv, Roman and Kendall up to then was so good, I was close to tears watching and then bust out laughing when Connor said that.

What a great hour of television

Great episode. The light it shone on the utterly empty vessels that the kids are. Resorting to child like states instantly.

Is anyone else in love with Karolina?

Holy shit yes, can’t believe I forgot that show, that episode is unbelievable. Honourable mention to “Method Not Allowed” too, where there’s maybe 3 lines of dialogue in the whole episode.

Jesus.

What the feck. Just next level tv. Can’t even begin to dissect it.

my main note right now is how hilarious Roman’s awkward consoling hugs were.

She’s rather beautiful.

100%. Mr Robot had some crackers, single take episode in season three for example.

Also as @esmufc07 mentioned earlier but you wouldn’t know about - TLOU S01E03

I love how the episode started out in “typical” Succession style. Plotting and business going on amidst a lavish backdrop. We all assumed it’d be Logan and the kids fighting it out over Mathison whilst Conor’s sham wedding was going on and then BAM, that happened. Fecking amazing.

Logan Roy will surely go down as one of the great TV characters.

That was really something! You learn about the loony cake and it's once again confirmed to you how Logan is the absolute worst and then he's dead. Without any fanfare. Totally anticlimactic yet they really couldn't have done a better job than doing it this way, having him die off screen while he was on the toilet. Stellar acting all around. I was really expecting Roman to get roped in again by Logan and then his last words to him were "are you being a cnut?" and we'll likely never know if he heard those words which were completely justified. Someone said that if Logan had gone to his son's wedding he might have gotten better medical help or at least he would've died surrounded by his loved ones but now he died surrounded by his employees on the way to a business deal and that really sums him right up, in episode one he thinks Kendall is not suited to the job because he decides to come to Logan's birthday party rather than make a business deal.. appropriate for him to go out like this. Having seen the mid-season trailer, I cant wait to see the rest of the season.

A good TV show. But man is it overhyped.

Season 1 and 2 were very good. 3 was good and so far this is good. It's a really enjoyable watch and I recommend it to those who haven't seen it. However it's being made out to be blockbuster must see TV, which just isn't the case.

Made out? You can have a claim that it's not the single best tv series ever which would be perfectly valid, but how can you say its not blockbuster TV? It checks out every box.

I swear you just go around taking the alternative to the popular stance. How does it feel to have never been in a list with 50.1% or higher of the votes I.e. be wrong all the time?

It's brilliantly written and acted, and I enjoy it, but a problem I have with the show is that I don't give a flying feck about the... succession. Because none of these characters are likable. So I don't really care how it all pans out.

This seems extremely unfair, given they were basically being told their dad was dying live on air. That was the most real they've been all series.

Nah. The episode when directly set against their father eviscerating them as ‘Not serious people’ in the previous, told a story.

They’re dumb as shit rich kids with daddy issues. That’s the whole show. Any front-foot move from the kids was always torn to pieces by a father that didn’t respect them in any way, shape or form. They spend their entire lives trying to get Love from a man that’s incapable of it.

The whole show is devoid of love. It’s transactional toxicity at every turn. When the news breaks, they don’t treat each other kindly. They instantly move to posturing and working angles. The boys don’t run to get Shiv, nobody gives a Fcuk about Conor. There’s no unity or care for each other.

Great episode in a brilliant show. Hoping that all the kids end up on the wrong side of everything, yet again.

fecking wow. What an episode of TV.

The way they did was just fecking horrible but brilliant. As someone said, the fact that you don’t really see it, and the kids don’t see him. It just happens with shitty information and terrible phone signal. It evokes that fear in the viewer because that’s how it happens in real life. Man what a show.

Pretty ballsy move. I reckon him and Kerri were having sex in the bathroom.

They were not because Tom said someone had to use the master key to enter the restroom. Also you do know that these jets have a private bedroom right? They showed it in fact.

It was an one off. The series is an anthology, so the next season was a completely different story with different actors.

yeah you know what I mean though. If we just leave it at mcconaughey and harrelson it probably makes it even more legendary.

Fair point on the bedroom. Her reaction seemed deliberately weird. Tom could be sparing his blushes.

Thought she played a shock victim pretty well. Although if you compared it to Tom hanks at the end of captain Phillips which is the gold standard, it was average.

I don’t even know what to do with myself. That was so good how do I even watch anything else. I feel like I went through the stages of grief with them.
