Liverpool Captain Stevie G. said:
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admitted he was "absolutely devastated" after failing to win the Premier League title.

Manchester City ended Liverpool's slim hopes of winning the title as they beat West Ham 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to secure their second championship in three seasons.

Liverpool had the destiny of the title in their own hands with three games to go, but the defeat to Chelsea and the draw with Crystal Palace cost them dear as the win over Newcastle on the final day of the campaign proved in the end not enough to clinch title glory.

"I'm absolutely devastated," Gerrard told Sky Sports. "Personally gutted and gutted for the fans. They've been magnificent but we can't be too down because it's been a fantastic season and we need to bounce back for next year and try and go one better.

"It took me until I'm 33 to get the experience of a proper title race so the experience for these young lads is going to be vital and there is a lot of ability in the squad. It's growing and it's moving forward and hopefully we can keep improving it.

"But the idea for me is to carry on until my legs pack in, but I will know when the day comes, but it is not here just yet."

Gerrard admitted finishing in the top four was the target at the start of the season and despite missing out on the title, feels their season should be regarded a success.

"[Champions League] was the target but if somebody asked me if we would go to the last day in the title race I wouldn't have believed them," continued Gerrard.

"It was our target the top four but after going on a run of 11 wins we got a bit of belief and we started dreaming.

"We gave it our best shot unfortunately we fell short of it, but if that point at Crystal Palace or the three points today got us in the top four we would be celebrating for weeks now."

He'll be approaching 35 next season. He's just been through his first gruelling title race to the end and he likely won't get a summer off. Not sure now big an asset he'll be for Liverpool next year but they're almost duty bound to keep him central to everything. A more ruthless manager would seek to replace him in the window. I suspect Rodgers won't.

What about 2009 la?

I tip my hat to you, sir. Couldn't stand Carragher the PLAYER, don't mind him as a person.

Agree about City, but none of them is really 'City', if you know what I mean. They're just a bunch a guys doing their job. I suppose you could say Kompany is becoming their Gerrard but his intelligence makes him hard to dislike.

But, yeah, Gerrard's Liverpool status, his antipathy towards United, and the media's courting of him, renders him universally unlikeable by the majority of United fans. You just can't like him.

That being said ... I listened to him being interviewed on the radio and he seemed alright. It's Gerrard the player that is the subject of our ire.

Why so? He probably had scored more goals for us than for Liverpool in his entire career or, at least, came very close.

Dont agree with that at all.
There were plenty of decent albums in the 80's
anything from depeche mode, talk talk, aha to guns n roses, cure etc
Nothing wrong with Collins either.

Sorry but everything is wrong about Phil Collins. Coldplay and Chris Martin have taken over from Genesis and Phil Collins.

This is brilliant.

They bottled it hard, and Gerrard bottled it the most. That pitiful speech in front of the cameras after the Man City game changed the complexion of the last 4 games. The slip was just the icing on the cake. I hope he looks back on this moment in years to come and admits to himself in his head that he's a self absorbed fkhead.

I think it is the kissing the camera/swatting it away which will always remain. I hope he never does it again.

Compare to Robson. SAF saw the player declining and kept him in the squad but more as a backup/player coach type. He was still quite influential. Rodgers would be smart to tempt a top player in and willing to reduce Gerrard's role. But me thinks Gerrard is undroppable despite being a open gate in that defensive/holding midfield role.

I think Rodgers has basically put Stevie me in a free zone where he does least harm, he can pass sideways hit a few Hollywood balls whilst being flanked by two willing runners, it's the 2014 version of sticking him right wing (by Rafa). It's actually worrying what Liverpool will be like when they can drop gerrard as you have to think that the defense will shore up, but some of their fast counters may slow down.

@Olly how do you not have a professional job somewhere making these????

Absolutely top Gerrard gif!!
