Apart from the very top young players they'd likely be seen as sheep and the difference in quality between star player and reserve player isn't great enough to make that viable I'd say

I was tempted but went with Luis Enrique instead
I think some of that is the result of both of them looking poor together for the NT. It makes them both look less adaptable outside their club's tactical system. Gerrard had a decent run out in some draft this past year I think where he was played as a RM. I think that works better for Gerrard than CM and Lampard really looks out of place in any tactical system but a 451 for me at least.

Was thinking of picking him instead of pogba but really wanted to create a side that would work alongside pogba and pirlo so decided not to go for him.
Burgnich and Netzer are the two big ones from the star list for me. Best stopper and best playmaker in the game. Burgnich suffers from being neither a right back nor a centre back, rather than being both. I was tempted to get him but didn't fancy the arguments. Netzer has a lot of competition but I'm surprised about him. Would've picked him ahead of Laudrup personally, but Laudrup's reputation on here is hard to get past.

He would have been a decent fit for our team at RCM as it happens.
I played him on the right of a diamond in some draft not that long ago and he was actually well-received.

The whole thing gets overegged though. I mean Gerrard and Lampard actually played well together at Euro 2004 when Gerrard was the base of the diamond and Lampard was the tip of it. Obviously they were poor after that and crying out for a holder to free them both up. But ultimately there are not many in the history of the game better as attacking box-to-box 8s.
As attacking CMs, neither Gerrard nor Lampard would even breach Top 10 in all time list. The likes of Didi, Neeskens. Robson, Tigana, Breitner, Schuster, Masopust etc are at least a level if not two above them. Do the likes of Xavi, Falcao, Suarez also fit in as No.8?
Neither one fits into possession or one-touch attacking sides for me. They both lack agility and close control and for a lot of tactics those traits are extremely important in that role. For instance, besides the big names there are a lot of tactics I'd rather have a David Silva, prime Cesc or a Gerson type. Plus they lack the strength and power to outmuscle the top tier B2Bs like Robson and Davids. I feel players like Vieira and Keane (along with all the ones Edgar mentioned) fit into a much wider range of tactics and player combos than Lampard and Gerrard.
And I'd take a prime Ballack over either too!
