He's seen as being on a completely different level to all the other young players, at least that's my impression.

Voters looked for the fault in every young player except for him basically, which is funny considering he's a very forward-thinking player and much more likely to leave his area exposed than other young players, just by the nature of his game and the positions he inhabits.

Generally the reception that young players got has been extremely harsh, I mean when you watch De Bruyne and Sane on the pitch for City together it is obvious more often than not that De Bruyne is the better player, but it's not like Sane is light years away from him in terms of performances. A lot of the times the young players here have been judged based on their CV, instead of simply using their current performance level (which is very good for players like Lucas Hernandez, Kimmich, Sane, De Ligt, Skriniar etc.).

disagree, they are judged correctly. You dont judge current performance you judge 3 year peak and apart from Mbappe(and even he doesnt have it but has 2 exceptional years so he gets a pass) there is nobody that fits those parameters.
There is a reason behind why you can get additional star player for every young player. Obviously they are better then some of the picked players but against the first 2 tiers of the pool they stand no chance and rightly so IMO.

He is not seen on a completely different level, he also happens to be a full-back. Nobody gives a shit about FB.

Meaning, it is more likely you will get away with him than with other youngsters.

Absolutely true. FB's and goalkeepers are positions you are likely to get away with crap or average players in draft games.

Unless they are up against top class wingers, which to be fair is true in real life unless you're expecting significant attacking contribution from them

I used a bit of hyperbole there (people do think of their defensive aspects and what kind of FB would fit behind your winger), but yeah, looking at other positions you can absolutely make a case that it is a position just after GK in terms of importance.

Yeah generally full backs are only cared about when facing a top class winger and their attacking contribution.

Their stylistic fit and general mechanics in the formation is rarely taken in mind, despite them having one of the most important roles and considering they cover an awful amount of space up and down the wing.

You can even get away with playing them as wing backs against great wingers if you have a covering CB on the side.
