Haven't watched a lot of Keegan, but most places I read in the past (not pool forums), people seemed to rate Keegan a lot more than Kenny.

Among people of a certain age in the UK and Ireland, I imagine most would rate Dalglish higher. I think Keegan gets boosted slightly higher by the two Ballon D'Ors, particularly in the online lists that are typically made up by fans who didn't live through that era.

I rate Keegan though - in a certain set-up he could be absolute dynamite.

I think it has a lot to do with Ballon D'Ors — as the time goes, more people will see Keegan winning 2 and assume that he was a better player.

That is one reason I agree with and while winning those, having a successful career outside Britain would have had an impact as well.

I meant what he offers to the team. He has been described as good player but not naturally talented, not a premium dribbler, instinctive goalscorer but not a premium poacher, had speed but not the blistering pace on the first 2 steps. Only thing that really comes out is he was a physically fit player and can't be bulldozed off the ball.

Kinda a better version of --- is what I got from my previous research

He was an outstanding dribbler, even though it didn't look like it Earned so many penalties.
Add to that his fantastic movement, workrate, surprising aerial prowess and a proper winning mentality — he was always able to provide in big moments.

Keegan and Dalgish played for two of the bigger underachieving, often less than the sum of the parts national teams of mid-70s-mid80s and didn't manage to have a strong international tournament. I can imagine that holds them back in ratings for a lot of fans. Same for Blokhin when considering European forwards of that time.

Indeed. He could play either side, but we felt he won't be rated on the left.

Hey folks, I tried making an interactive dashboard for scrolling through the EC finalists' teams - just for inspiration in this. It's all data scraped from Wiki. My basic thinking was it isn't that easy to scroll through the lineups on Wiki and I didn't know of any other site that packages all this info into one place. Any thoughts? Is there another website people use or is this potentially useful?

I’ve seen that website before but not too sure how it works, would be even better if you could get the names into the shape of the formation - I see you have added the positions on there already. Not that it’s in any way required as it’s brilliant as is, but would be even more visual.

That’s brilliant mate.. A colleague at work uses Tableau but I didn’t know you could use them online as well.. Looks like a lot of hard work.. Appreciate you putting in all the effort.. Bookmarked in my favorites

Yeah I was thinking the things to add are:

1. The formation graphic for each game
2. The score for each game
3. Putting the players in sequential order (at the moment they're sorted based on positional group and number, so it works for old school defences but is sketchy beyond that point)
4. Make it mobile friendly (as it is, it only works on a big screen)
5. Add in visual cues (logos etc.)

I just wanted to check if the info in there was useful to begin with! Wasn't sure if it was just my own niche need or something a little broader. Including the lineup graphics and scores for each game is pretty straightforward - just a couple of hours' work pulling the data. The sequential order bit is more difficult as I can't think of any way to systematically categorise the data to auto-assign it - it'd need to be manual assignment of 1 to 11 to the 1000 or so players! The last two could take a while too...but make a big difference as a final product.

Could do the same for the all the major tournaments really.

Aye, this is their free version Tableau Public. Has some limitations but essentially functions in the same way. The difficult part is getting data into a "tidy" structure. After that Tableau makes it ridiculously easy to play around with it. I started using it in work and ended up doing loads of stuff with it in my free time. It's just a fun way to explore information. Here's a few different ones I've half-finished:

Manchester United Timeline (a quick visual overview of season performance)
75 years of UK #1s (just a visual exploration of the same info as in here)
Ronaldo and Messi's endless pursuit of goals (an infographic type thing of their goals across various dimensions)
Global Terrorism Overview (a gorier topic and more sophisticated kind of visualisation, full of rich info from the GTD)
