Sotiris Ninis

Lets see how this kid does against a Barca who will be smarting after their humiliating loss in the league. I expect Pana to be on the end of an almighty thrashing so we should get a good idea of his quality against some of the best players in the world.

I don't expect anything but a loss for Pana, don't reckon it will be a thrashing though.

Depends what your definition of thrashing is. I expect a 4, or 5 nil win. Barca will come out all guns blazing.

Does anyone else get reminded of Stojkovic when they watch this lad?

As I expected. It was a thrashing. Say what you will, Barca after a loss are a fearsome prospect. Could have easily been 6 or even 7-1.

Interestingly this was a comparison I heard made in regard to Ljajic but I can see the similarity with Ninis the way he drifts from wide in particular. Did he actually play tonight?

According to reports in Spain, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are ready to concede defeat to Manchester United in the race for Panathinaikos starlet Sotiris Ninis, because the 20-year-old is reportedly an avid fan of the Premier League side and has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

Spanish daily Sport suggest Manchester United have already had an €8 million bid rejected for the attacking midfielder, but Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to land the youngster who is a regular at international level, and will endeavor to sign the player for €9.5 million in the January transfer window.

Real Madrid and Barcelona could still oppose the Premier League giants but acknowledge the player’s desire to join Manchester United may prevent them from landing the prodigious talent, and are aware they face an uphill struggle to pip Sir Alex Ferguson in the race.

Arsenal have also been linked with the player in the past, but Ferguson has earmarked the precocious youngster as a potential heir to Paul Scholes, and reports in Spain suggest Manchester United are the current favorites for his coveted signature.

Never saw it with Ljajic, thought the Kaka comparisons were pretty spot on for him.

Manchester United were left disappointed on Tuesday night after seeing Greek sensation Sotiris Ninis fail to make an impact for Panathinaikos.

talkSPORT revealed earlier this summer that United were tracking the midfielder, with Barcelona also interested in him.

United scouts were due at the Nou Camp on Tuesday to see Ninis in action for Panathinaikos but the 20-year-old playmaker was named on the bench.

Ninis did manage to come on during the latter stages of the game but United were not given long enough to see him in action.

Barcelona comfortably won the match 5-1 and despite failing to see Ninis shine, United remain keen on Ninis and will keep an eye out for him during the rest of Panathinaikos' Champions League campaign and domestic games.

Sources at Panathinaikos have revealed that Ninis wants one final season at his boyhood club before he makes his move to a major European league - and Old Trafford appears to be favoured destination.

Is he any good then?

Who knows, definetly talented, can dribble pass and has a cracking shot on him. Wether he can cut it or not is adifferent matter. Scored a great goal against Roma.

The fact he apparently favours United is nice to hear from one of these young wonderkids.

I agree, it was just what I read during the U19 World Cup.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Greece international Sotiris Ninis, the Panathinaikos youngster has taken the Greek Super League by storm since his debut as a 16 year old.

Ninis, now 20, has been constantly linked with a move away from the Athens based club with his destination most likely to have been Italy with Roma and both Milan clubs said to be fighting it out for his signature.

It now seems that Sir Alex has won the race for the 11 cap play~making midfielder. Premiership rivals Arsenal were also thought to have been keen on bringing Ninis to English soil but have since highlighted other targets.

A fee of around £9.6 million is thought to have been accepted for the player. It is expected that United will let the player stay on at Trifylli for another season in order to aid his development.

What? When did this happen?

I saw this and when I looked around on the net - I saw that several newspapers reported the exact same story (with the same fee) back in september.

So sorry guys - I wouldn't believe this rumour

I prefer Shinji Kagawa on the basis that he's better for marketing. Haven't seen either of them play.
