United on verge of Greek starlet signing
- Sotiris Ninis reportedly on verge of Old Trafford move

Manchester United have reportedly beaten off competition from Italy to sign Greek youngster Sotiris Ninis.

The Panathinaikos starlet has been courted by some of the top clubs in Serie 'A', but United are thought to have won the race for the starlet with a £9.6 million move.

Forza Roma reports that Sir Alex Ferguson has won the race for one of Europe's hottest properties

Attacking midfielder Ninis has a growing reputation after a fantastic start to his career in the Greek Super League. A product of Trifylli's youth system, the playmaker made his debut as teenager in 2006.

The 20-year-old took his first team opportunities this season, and helped his side to the title for the first time in six years.

International recognition has followed for Ninis, who made his debut for the Greek U21 side in 2007. The following year, senior honours were granted and the midfielder has played six times for Greece already this season. He scored his only goal for the country against Cyprus.

Roma, Inter, AC Milan and Arsenal have all previously been linked with Ninis, but Forza Roma reports that Sir Alex Ferguson has won the race for one of Europe's hottest properties.

The Red Devils have already confirmed the signing of Mexican starlet Javier Hernandez, and the addition of Ninis would confirm that the club are looking at long-term replacements for veterans like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Translate into English :

Manchester United almost made for Ninis

Should only miss the official passing of the player greek Sotirios Ninis from Panathinaikos Manchester United. This is a young player , just twenty years , but has already exposed it with his club (especially last year in Europe League ) and with the national team. About him there was also interest from Roma.

Here against Roma (Europa League), he is the n°7 (1 penalty, 1 goal, 1 assist)

Cisse genuinely looks like he is enjoying himself there

So we have signed this Ninis fella? Can't understand the translation. Is it speculation? Have we bid? Trying to agree terms? Medical?

The report in italian is just saying that deal is done but nothing official yet.

It seems that someone is leaking the news to the italian media - it could be either his club trying to invite more bids for the player.

Don t know its a bit strange that the only real source of this story is a small italian website(all the others seem to cite it)

what is forza roma
fanzine/webzine ??

the tosic story was in the russian papers a few days before anyone picked it up in england , but its a bit surprising that there is no other source for this ..

and we have spent 20m already .. 10m more .. who is lending us the monies ?

Ninis is another midget like Tosic?

This would be a strange transfer. If he's good enough, he may as well be a hobbit for all I care.

Manchester United are believed to be in talks with Panathinaikos regarding an £8million move for midfielder Sotiris Ninis.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was linked with the 20-year-old earlier this year and it has now been reported that United have opened talks with Greek side Panathinaikos regarding a transfer.
Ninis, Panathinaikos' captain, is a Greece international and has also attracted interest from European giants AC Milan and Real Madrid but it would appear as if United are in pole position to seal a deal.

So we now already have rumors for the january transfer window? :wenger:

Wonderkinds are all well and good, but i'm hoping that Kaka gets unsettled and we make a move for him. Really, want a strong, driving midfielder to partner Fletcher once Scholes call it a day. This kid Ninis looks a proper little tyke...

You think Kaka could/would play in a midfield two?

You think Kaka could/would play in a midfield two?

Not against a strong team. No.

Against weaker teams, sure. Fletcher would have to drop deeper then he normally does and adjust his game to allow Kaka to make forward runs but I have faith that Fletcher can do this. I personally don't think we can ever replace Scholes, and even if Carrick does regain his form I don't think he can come close to the levels that Scholes has even as a 35 year old. Say Scholes retires next year (hope not, but say he does), i think we could reshape the midfield and have a more advanced midfielder like Kaka sitting in behind the likes of Rooney and have Fletcher and perhaps Carrick / Anderson behind him doing the hard yards. Against the likes of chelsea we play the modified 451 / 433. Against West Ham and Blackpool we go 442.

Changes are surely going to need to be made in the next year or so (with Giggs, Scholes, Nev all reaching the end of their career). I know Fergie has said they can play till 40...but, honestly, does anyone really think that can or should happen?

This is all predicated on my belief that Kaka will get unsettled with his lack of opportunities and we will have a chance to sign him. That may never happen. But i would like to believe we can revive his career and i've always felt he would be perfect for united and for the English game. Would love to see him here for his final few prime years.

So at 5'8", Sotiris is a midget. What does that make our very own Paul Scholes who is listed as 5'7" but in person looks 5'5" or 5'6"?

All in all, Kaka's best position will ALWAYS be behind the CF where he is given a free role, he was just brilliant in Counter attacks, not to mention when he destroyed us.

In his AC' days when he was playing behind Inzaghi and Sheva, he was just astounding and his long shots were sublime...

I'm surprised he's getting a lot of slack at RM, never got to play much and was mostly injured.

Still think he's a top quality player who'd I'd love to see in a red shirt, especially linking behind Wayne Rooney

Very interested t see how the lad does againt Barca tonight, he scored a cracker against Roma, lets see if he can do it again.

Lets see how this kid does against a Barca who will be smarting after their humiliating loss in the league. I expect Pana to be on the end of an almighty thrashing so we should get a good idea of his quality against some of the best players in the world.
