Sotiris Ninis

Manchester United set to beat Serie A pack to Sotiris Ninis signing - report - Goal.com

Manchester United are set to beat Italy's leading clubs to the £9.6 million signing of Panathinaikos starlet Sotiris Ninis, according to Forza Roma.

Ninis, 20, is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe and was part of the Greece squad that travelled to World Cup 2010. His comfort in attacking midfield and on either wing has seen him added to the transfer wish list of Roma, Inter, AC Milan and Arsenal.

But United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to have stolen a march on his rivals and has already handed a multi-million bid to the Greek champions. With Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs in the twilight of their careers, Ninis would add an injection of youth into the United ranks.

This site is claiming that United are offering 2.5 million euros more than Roma for Ninis. But again, it could be the greeks trying to con the italians......(they did it to europe and now they think they could do it to everyone :))

:boring:

Still not buying first team.. Seems really cheap for the next big greek prospect.

I'm half Greek, but 10 million pounds for a Greek footballer is too much, whatever his prospects which are, as anyone can guess, not great...

Did anyone watch him in the wc?

I didnt really. Saw him come on as a sub once , I figure that was his role. Looks good on youtube I can remember from our previous links, but then again who doesnt look good on youtube? If this is legit at least we're looking to improve the right area...

To be fair he doesn't look impressive at all in this video. I'm not sure he would be better than Obertan.

Plays a different position as he is predominently an AM.

By most account also he's had a very good season for his club linking very well with Cisse. I'd like to see more of him to make up my mind but if we are going for him you can bet that he will have impressed the scouts which is obviously a good sign.

Not sure about the fee being all upfront(if we have even bid at all) and you can tell me more about this but I would be guessing as he's just had a very good season as he plays for a team who traditionally have looked to do well in european competition and as its pretty much a seller's market in football nowadays just under 10 million wouldn't be that far fetched for a promising 20 year old.

We did also agree a reportedly similar fee for Ljajic who plays for Partisan in an inferior league to Greece before pulling out of course.

Did anyone watch him in the wc?

I think he had one appearance from the bench in their second group game and from what I saw appeared to liven up a really dull perfromance from with a 20min cameo.

The muppets will freak-out if we sign this guy. It wont matter how good he is, or if they've ever seen him play, or how much SAF rates him; he's not on their little muppet list so they'll do their fecking nuts in.

Looks even weaker than Tosic if you ask me, if hes the player that came on in the Argentina game then he didnt look great, actually fell over the ball at one point.

I think we can safely say that the World Cup is a poor yard-stick to be judging players by.

I watched his two games as a sub, not entirely impressed, got a bit of the ball, tried the dribble, got surrounded, crossed as hard as he could.... Goal kick...

Let's just say from A.Sanchez's performances you can call this guy a lot weaker in tight situations as isn't as good on the dribble and just isn't as quick... also took too much time to think of his next move...

Summary: Not United quality for me...

I like to imagine that United's scouts and SAF will have been a little more thorough than to watch him make a couple of sub appearances in the WC before deciding on his quality. Wishful thinking maybe, i don't know.

Clearly bought to bring the ladies back to OT since we've lost our sex appeal with them since Ronnie left. :p

Seriously, most "Muppet's" have surely heard of this kid, he's the Greek Kaka' or Messi depending on who you ask, could be a gem like Chico looks to be, or he could pad out the reserves.

Am i right n thinking you can have as many u21's in your squad with this new PL shake up?

No, it's not that. It's just that despite being good while playing for Panathinaikos, he just doesn't seem United material. Of course, if United do buy, it would be impossible for him to turn out really good, develop his game, bulk up and become a really good player for and this is what I hope that happens. :)

United on verge of Greek starlet signing
- Sotiris Ninis reportedly on verge of Old Trafford move

Manchester United have reportedly beaten off competition from Italy to sign Greek youngster Sotiris Ninis.

The Panathinaikos starlet has been courted by some of the top clubs in Serie 'A', but United are thought to have won the race for the starlet with a £9.6 million move.

Forza Roma reports that Sir Alex Ferguson has won the race for one of Europe's hottest properties

Attacking midfielder Ninis has a growing reputation after a fantastic start to his career in the Greek Super League. A product of Trifylli's youth system, the playmaker made his debut as teenager in 2006.

The 20-year-old took his first team opportunities this season, and helped his side to the title for the first time in six years.

International recognition has followed for Ninis, who made his debut for the Greek U21 side in 2007. The following year, senior honours were granted and the midfielder has played six times for Greece already this season. He scored his only goal for the country against Cyprus.

Roma, Inter, AC Milan and Arsenal have all previously been linked with Ninis, but Forza Roma reports that Sir Alex Ferguson has won the race for one of Europe's hottest properties.

The Red Devils have already confirmed the signing of Mexican starlet Javier Hernandez, and the addition of Ninis would confirm that the club are looking at long-term replacements for veterans like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

fecking hell, you're retarded.

The new Giorgos Donis

Oh, I remember when we were linked with him. Never became anything like a top class player. Just a decent winger.

I'm hoping we bring in some more proven class this summer. However, I'd still be very happy with Ninis. First heard about him a year ago. He's an excellent talent.

That seems like a steep fee for an unproven youngster. If we bring him in, surely we'll have to sell someone, we can't simply stockpile youngsters, they all need ample playing time if they're going to develop.

Unlikely to be all in one go, and if this is true(doubtful) our scouts will have had a whole season of first team football from him in which to decide whether he can do a job here.

If there's so much competition for him, you could be damn sure that it will be all in one go. If he does come to OT, we'll have:

Fletcher
Anderson
Scholes
Gibson
Hargreaves
Giggs
Valencia
Nani
Obertan
Park
Cleverly
Carrick
Ninis

That'll be 13 midfielders fighting for 4 spots. Far far too many, will hamper the younger players' development. Not to mention that a few from our reserves could potentially make the step up too. Someone's got to be heading out.

I wonder if we'll see a surprise name on the list of players who will go out on loan. If we sign Ninis, he could be one of them. We obviously have to work within limits with the new squad cap. And yet, Fergie knows that in a years time he could suddenly find himself without two or three players with the likes of Scholes, Giggs and Neville nearing retirement. You get a player, send him out on loan so you don't have too many players, and bring him in after a year or so.

I like the official United sites gossip page. They have a count on the amount of players we're linked with.
Running total: 70 in (estimated £1.269billion), 16 out (estimated £174million, including loans and swaps)

It's actually an subtle internal attempt to cause heart attacks at the Glazer family.

Of the players you've named only the ones in bold are actually natural central midfielders, so thats 6 players. Then of the 6 players only 1 of them could be classed as a natural attacking CM and thats Scholes, if we signed Ninis(big if) he would be our 2nd natural attacking central midfielder in the squad.

We actually play mostly with 3 CM when playing 4-5-1 so again there is more space than it appears.

You also need to bear in mind that Scholes and Giggs are over 34 next season and surely we are coming to the last 1-2 seasons from them, I wouldn't expect them to make more than 20 starts next season. We did also use Park as an AM last season and I felt this was out of desperation due to the lack of options in this area.

I personally wouldn't be supprised to see players leave this summer however especially Gibson, but I also wouldn't be supprised to see a natural AM such as Ninis arrive as we need one, it possibly no coinsidence that we have been linked with both him and Paulo Henriques as they would both seem to be the type of players we do not have in abundance.
