Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

"Some of these player won't be apart it of it" Pogba, Herrera, De Gea, Lukaku, Matic probably won't be part of the project next season. Mata, Jones, Smalling, Darmain, Rojo, Lingard, Young, Andreas is in Ole's plan. :(

"Nowhere to hide" eh Ole? As big as shit talker as Mourinho.

I don’t get too hung up on transfer season as I don’t follow other leagues so don’t get caught up in the muppetry. But if we don’t make a few more signings we’re in trouble. Even with Arsenal and Chelsea’s failings.

As it stands I guess we’d line up as:

DDG
AWB-Smalling-Lindelof-Shaw
Fred-McTominay-Pogba
Rashford-Lukaku-Martial

Not exactly inspiring is it? Especially given all the noise that Pogba and Lukaku want out (I’d be ok with both going but I don’t trust our ability to replace them at all).
I would say that lineup is a million times more inspiring then what people here want it to be:
DDG
AWB-Maguire-Lindelof-Shaw
Longstaff-McTominay-Fernandes
Rashford-Yedder-Martial

It's even worse than that -I think most people want
Henderson
AWB-Diop-Lindelof-Shaw
Longstaff-McTominay-Fernandes
James--Rashford-Martial

I love hate transfer time, it is exciting but with Woodward at the helm it is excruciating, he is great at the commercial side, but do you reckon it is a pride thing with him that he just cannot see how crap he is at signing players?

He will lose his job if he loses money even if we are winning stuffs. That is the nature of commercial side of current footballing side. We better get used to this. There is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Stop watching football maybe helps i think.

and looking at thing with rose-tinted glasses is so useful?

Or just have a bit of patience and wait and see how things play out? Everyone’s constant fear mongering is becoming hysterical.

well, many of us issued warnings this time last year and got the response you've just given...

I concur that the wailing and gnashing of teeth should wait awhile....

Some people just come on here to moan. It’s a cheap form of therapy. The simple fact is that no matter how much whining, howling and crying you do the club is NOT listening to YOU. The club has never listened to you and it never will. That may upset a few but it’s fact.

Every day looks more and more likely our transfer business has been completed. Just a shame we never signed the 5-6 player that we where told we where going to sign.

I'm sure we'll get in another 1/2 players at least.

Really hope you are right as I was very optimistic when I believed were signing 5 players. But Woody seems to have let us down big time but there is still quite a bit of time left inn the transfer window so i hope he does something really special and surprises me.

The thing is, assuming we have no outgoings to key players e.g. Pogba, Lukaku, then I fully expect us to make 1/2 signings, probably more likely 2.

If the likes of Pogba and Lukaku leave, we simply have to be in the market for 3/4 players.

Agreed. I am really hoping that if Lukaku and Pogba leave that we sign adequate replacements and am hoping but not expecting for Woody to reinvest the full transfer fees back into the squad and am also hoping for a few more signings on top. Although I haven't got faith in Woody to do so.

Everyone slags off and complains about Woody yet he is doing everything right, kept the sell on fee for Zaha and kept the fee and what we wanted it to be despite palace keep knocking us back.

Is standing up for the club and not backing down in prices for Pogba/Lukaku and saying its £150M / £75M respectively or we're not listening.

Transfers dont happen as quick as football manager you know!

5 weeks is just too much work for Ed and Ole to sign the likes of Bruno, Maguire and Longstaff.
It took us about month to sign Daniel James and another month to sign AWB, and they're not even International transfers. If we can sign one of the aforementioned exciting players listed above within the next 5 weeks, I'd be absolutely thrilled.

James and AWB took a month - what a terrible terrible argument and stinks of the same thought process as the our fans are 'spoilt and entitled' thread on here.

James 'took a month' because his father had passed away suddenly and we gave the boy some time to grieve.
AWB 'took a month' because there was the Under 21 championships holding things up.

Don't be so narrow minded that the club are indept at doing transfers.

Like it or not, we cannot live on the 'manchester united' name much longer. Teams like City/Liverpool are a much more attractive prospect for players.

We got to convince these players to join us, agree fees not with just the clubs but personal terms too. This stuff takes TIME! Especially when more than 1 club are after a player.

The point is: other clubs began this process during last season. You can negotiate transfers any time. Why are we doing it in the middle of the window? And why are we announcing new contracts during the window? We need three world class players or we're not going to challenge for the title next year.

Think this BBC article may be about right, however I think we will get 4 in and not 5.
In AWB, James, Longstaff, Maquire
Out Valencia, Herrera, Pogba, Lukaku, Wilson, Henderson (loan)

I’m really not sure how well it would go down losing Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini and just signing Longstaff.

That’s total incompetence.

I agree but Mctominay will be seen as replacement for Fellaini. Longstaff would be Herrera replacement and if anyone else joins will be to replace Pogba.

If we as fans have been talking about needing 5 or 6 players in during the past 2 transfer windows, and about the same amount out, and it's not been done, is it the fans who are wrong, or is it pure incompetence by the Utd board?

We're in the same situation we been in for many seasons and yet nothing really changes.

Did we expect any more than this? Did we actually expect a club run by Woodward and out owners to undertake the open heart surgery that is required to make us a force again?

the lack of a DoF is oh so telling. Rio's quote about saying he would be interested but 'United need to figure out what the role will look like' was the biggest indication that it is Woodward who makes the calls on transfers and contracts. Clearly this is about spending as little as possible for the glazers and saving money by renewing contracts of undeserving players that we can't shift.

We are drifting towards our worst season in modern history (since early days of fergie) and we will not finish above Leicester and Wolves, posibly Everton too. so 8th/9th is what I expect at this point. We literally do not have a minute to waste between now and the deadline and yet I'd bet that no business will be done now until after the tour.

What an utter shambles, and the fact that Ole has already been made to look a fool by failing to meet the deadlines he set for having his squad ready for the tour and clearing out deadwood just shows that the board are not fully backing him. They will push the 'massive rebuild' bullshit which we are supposed to wait 3 or 4 years for and they'll be willing to throw him under the bus if us fans dont buy it.

Contract extensions with mediocre players, inability to sell mediocre players, inability to sign players, getting worse every year, all our best players wanting to leave - I think it's a sign our board is truly incompetent and have no idea what they are doing.

All of this, and we have no way near hit the bottom yet I am afraid. At this point we are relying on a class of 92 miracle and attracting the only players that still want to come, not world class talents.

Except the class of 92 had leaders and proven quality around them to learn from, where's ours? This is going to be an excruciatingly long and depressing season and that's not being melodramatic. Maybe we can enjoy blooding a few youngsters and trophyless midtable mediocrity..

So it looks like:
James, AWB, Maguire, Longstaff

Then if:
Pogba leaves -> Fernandes
Lukaku leaves -> Ben Yedder

Don't forget the shit second rate manager
Fits perfectly in our setup

We have not hit the rock bottom, definitely. This season is shaping to be the worst since SAF.

McTominay would be replacing Herrera as he did at the end of last season, Longstaff is someone we'll be signing to eventually replace Matic.

Sounds like the only way out is for a sizable number of fans to stop going to games and buying merchandise until profits drop to the point where the Glazers sell...but then who can afford to buy MUFC except someone from the middle east? Lose-Lose

I've not renewed for this season, if I'm going to watch Utd and be continually disappointed I'd at least like to do it in the comfort of my own home.
