Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

Fabian Ruiz is a cm, one more would be nice, someone like Ndidi perhaps.

But we still do have Matic, Mctominay, Pogba, Pereira, Fred and if we got Fabian it would mean 6 for 3 positions. So someone like Pereira should be shipped no?

I just don't see us signing two CM's unless we ship one more out. Reckon OGS is hoping Pereira or Fred can come good still, at least the former deserves one more season, sometimes it takes a season to settle in and learn the traits of a new league.
Agree thought that technically we could exchange almost all of our CM's out and I would not really miss them

I cannot see Andreas coming good unfortunately which is why we have to bring in a minimum of two new midfielders. We seriously lack variety in our current selection

Assuming that Pogba stays and Lukaku is sold, sounds like we are in for CB, DMC, CM and maybe Ben Yedder to replace Lukaku, which all in all would not be a bad window.

If we do received 75/80M for Lukaku and if we can somehow shift some of the deadwood, the Lukaku money pays for Fernandes and Longstaff, with the main chunk of our remaining budget going on a CB and then what 40M I think it is for Ben Yedder.

My worry is that we are not looking to sort out the RW as from looking at James he has always played from the left but we will see.

The players that we are targeting, it sounds to me that Jones Smalling Rojo Darmian Young Matic Lukaku Sanchez will all be moved on over the course of the next 2/3 windows.

I agree, and would like to see us sell Andreas but I'm not sure OGS and company see it like that.
Hopefully something good happens before the window shuts

I had hoped at the start of the week we might just get a couple done before Sunday, then I soon realised that wouldn't be possible for our inept CEO to manage

Nah, it is the fax machine fault. It can only deal with 1 piece of paper a day, otherwise, it will jam.

2 signings and 1 player left, which was Herrera on a free, one of the last players we should of had leaving, not counting Valencia, absolute joke of a club , we're genuinely gonna end up slipping further down the table I think if this is our summer, only thing I expect, if, and thats IF we make any more signings are cheapy Brexit players, fantastic.

Still genuinely mindblown that for investment bankers and such, just how poorly run this club is money wise, anyone on planet earth with even the remotest knowledge of football could tell you the likes of Phil Jones etc are BAD investments, so why the hell keep investing in them by giving them MORE money that they haven't done a damn thing to deserve, just utterly astounding on so many levels.

Actually makes me sick that we are rewarding these bang average talentless players, absolutely no ambition what so ever.

Yeah looks like Maguire at 80m will be one of these "cheapy brexit" signings you mention.

Mid table / relegation manager expecting mid table decisions made which is the exact issue we have had this summer. No DOF since Ole confirmed he was happy with the existing structure, we've only addressed one weakness in the starting 11.

You can almost guarantee we will go into next season with the exact same issues we had the previous campaign. Ole's tenure expectancy is shortening on a daily basis the longer this summer window transpires.

Not gonna panic yet but I wish they'd get on with it. We're fecked if we don't at least get a couple midfielders in.

And why the hell are Rojo and Darmian still here?

Recent reports, also Matic possibly out. How many midfielders are we going to field next year, 1?

I was an advocate for the window shutting when the season starts but in practice it's been a terrible move

Me too, I just think clubs need to get used to it, I think we will see a lot of activity in the last week of August, hands will be shown and once one goes others will follow... I hope.

So you're criticising letting the slow, pragmatic, past-his-best Valencia leave and replacing him with one of the PL's best right backs and probably one of the best and most exciting young RB's in world football?

Strange view.

Ole said he was happy with our business so it is not a CEO issue but what was planned + players like Sancho refusing to come.

Don't think he is as such. More there were other players who should be sent packing and there is no sign of it happening. He just mentioned Valencia as being one of the two who have been allowed to go on frees. So they really have not done much.

Solskjaer said we are working on a couple more transfers. For all we know sales of the likes of Lukaku could see more than that too. Or Solskjaer could be downplaying the business we're trying to do

So I'm not sure what people are complaining about really. As it stands we're still on track to do roughly as much business as it was flagged we would.

better to downplay business than the Hoeneß-style BS ("if you only knew who we've already signed") that will haunt you forever.

I've been saying all of this for a while now, which is why I am so anti-Woodward. I believe that while he is here, we will never win the league and will continue to aim for 4th place. Jones. Mata. Young. Perriera. Rojo. Darmian. These are the types of players who will not be part of a league winning side, so why are we rewarding these guys with more money? To save money. If we sold these guys, we'd need to replace them and that would cost money in terms of transfer fees. So, the cheapest method is to renew contracts and because we are only aiming for 4th place, "these players will do".

So many fans are obsessing over transfers, but the guy who is holding us back (Woodward), remaining in full control.

Yes and not take everything literally, working on one or two things could mean that but could also mean we bring in no one else or another 3-4 are signed.

Personally I have never had high expectations there was the desire or competency at the club to get lots of players in and out this summer, especially all before the tour.

The clear-out has involved a player who's contract expired and a player we could very much use next season. While passengers such as Darmian and Rojo are still here. Hardly great business.
It was a clear briefing we would get 5 or 6 incoming transfers. We've got a great player in Wan-Bissaka and a talent in James. We need to address multiple key positions in 4 weeks time, and the preparation for the next season is well under way. Business could have been done a lot faster. If Ole comes out today saying we might sign one or two players, I can perfectly understand people are worried. It might not be meant literally but it's enough to trigger some people. City, Pool, Tottenham have much better squads than ours and even they are reinforcing. I know a rebuild takes time, but we really can't afford another year without CL football. We are lucky both Arsenal and Chelsea are in trouble too.

in fairness, Ole could have just said "it's a beautiful day" and it would have triggered some people. No wonder the pitchforks are out when he says "one or two things", which could mean anything really.

I prefer to withhold judgement of this window until it's over. Getting your knickers in a twist a whole month before the end of the window just seems pointless and that whole "doom and gloom, the sky is falling!!!"-attitude from so many fans really pisses me off. It feels like Ole already has a noose around his neck, and personally I think it's a damn shame.

City and Liverpool will be challenging for the league. We won't. What they do is relatively irrelvant in terms of what we need to do next season. The teams we actually need to overtake are Arsenal and Chelsea, who as you say are in trouble too and almost certain to finish the window having strengthened less than us. In fact Chelsea will have actively made themselves worse. So there's no need for any misery or panic at this point.

As for the clear out, there is still time left in the transfer window and Solskjaer didn't mention anything about likely outgoings today as far as I can see, so you may well still see more dross leave. You can't force teams to buy your overpaid players though, nor would carrying them hurt our season if it doesn't impact on the incoming transfers.

I hope we are fully focussed on bringing new acquisitions into the club up until our window closes. We can still sell the likes of Rojo and Darmian to pretty much any overseas club after our window shuts.

If the two deals we’re currently sorting out/working on are Maguire and Longstaff does that potentially mean we’re heading into next season with our midfield options being Pogba, Matic, Fred, Longstaff, McTominay, Pereira, Garner and Gomes ? Or could we still manage to sign Bruno Fernandes before the deadline with how long it seems to take us to complete deals.

Where am i criticising letting go of Valencia? I'm referring to how we are apparently letting go up to 6 players, as we should be doing, but have only got rid of 1, in Herrera, one that shouldn't be going, Valencia is one of those that should of gone regardless, but i don't include him because he was gone anyway.

We could be looking at removing Pogba from that list too.

Pure speculation that the two are Maguire and Longstaff. Could easily be Maguire and Fernandes. Maguire is the only certainty I'd say

I think that's the most likely outcome.

Not ideal, but if so I'd say the following lineup would be enough to get top 4, assuming at the very least CB is strengthened:

Pogba - Fred
Matic / Longstaff

Depending on how well Longstaff kicks on.

As much as I don't love it, I'd still prefer to see both a RW & CB brought in as priorities above an extra midfielder there.

McTom looks like reasonable competition for Fred, hopefully Gomes / Pereira can offer similar for Pogba (big ask I know), while Matic / Longstaff / Garner could actually be a pretty good setup if the youngsters manage to kick on and, just maybe, Matic remembers how to run.

I think it'll take another three good windows before we've got a healthy looking squad.

Jesus can we at least sign one midfielder so I can relax a little. Is that too much to ask?

There can't just be two more signings unless Pogba and Lukaku are staying. We're not really hearing much about who will leave other than those two which is a bit disconcerting. I expected at least Darmian, Bailly, Rojo to be linked away from the club in the gossip columns. Early days yet though I guess.
