Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

Still time of course, but all his tough talk at that time looks like just that atm, talk.

There isn't a lot of movement in the transfer market right now. I feel like it will just come to life at the latter stages and right now many clubs are just posturing.

There are still 5 weeks until the transfer window closes.

We needed players to come in before the preseason starts so Ole could work on integrating them into the team. It's likely Pogba leaves and we should get a new CDM. So we might have a brand new midfield and as well a new CB. You just can't start the season without having training time and preseason games to integrate the players into the team. It will result in a slow start because it will take time to build the chemistry required. With the negative atmosphere, the club is in at the moment, we cannot afford a slow start. If we have a bad start, there will be more pressure piled on by the fans and the media, and it will snowball into a disaster.
This transfer season has been a complete farce. It is important we get everything settled in the next 2 weeks. If not next season will be a lot worse. We might find ourselves out of the top 8.

5 weeks sounds a fair while, but with the amount of work we need, and the players you'd have thought we need to ship, it's not long at all.

"Some of these player won't be apart it of it" Pogba, Herrera, De Gea, Lukaku, Matic probably won't be part of the project next season. Mata, Jones, Smalling, Darmain, Rojo, Lingard, Young, Andreas is in Ole's plan. :(

Yep, the talk of binning a number of players on has just totally disappeared.

Why isn't there a serious move to ship Darmian on?!
We're not going to get much, but why pay 50-60k a week for a year, for a guy who made 6 appearances last year? Pointless. Take a few mill, and save the 3-4m he's on over a season.

Did I miss something, was there a second press conference where Ole laid our transfer plans and whole strategy for the next 3 seasons out in painstaking accuracy, swear that it was the truth, whole truth etc... on pain of prosectution, because the presser I saw he just gave a meh soundbite

Darmian has been told he can go and there is interest from Italy and Spain but so far no firm bids. Juve apparently quite fancy him as a cheap replacement for Cancelo if he does indeed join City. Might take a while but the windows in Spain and Italy have almost 2 more months to go so I think we just need to be patient. I think MEN were reporting Rojo has been told he can leave also but not yet seen any verification of this. Jones is presumably available too considering we have floated him as a makeweight in a couple of proposed deals.

Fecking hell.. acting all tough when you are the caretaker and now be complacent. Never learn, United manager, never learn. Won't bother when he gets the sack.

How many fecking chances do these idiots at the club need? ffs be ruthless for once.

End of rant.

Honestly this post is 2 months too soon. If all these jokers are here when the windows close then have at it but for right now it is a bit harsh to judge, particularly as Ed is the one with final say and someone needs to want to buy our trash in order for us to sell. Would you buy Rojo?

Especially if we are selling Pogba and Lukaku both of which will probably go through after the premier League window closes.

Too much work for 5 weeks.

I would be more confident if it was til September or all the leagues like the PL, then we would be in the thick of things right now. I feel like there will be more movement in a few weeks and then the rest of the leagues in late August before deadline day.

The next few weeks will move by quickly, too quick for us.

Not sure what you want him to do, of course he wants to shift the dross we have, but no one will buy them, the wage bill can only be so much, and the squad so big.

I'm one of our clubs biggest critcs for how they do things, and in Ole we have a car crash waiting to happen imo, but their hands are tied with this.

Maybe rant about how we still have the same bafoon making the decisions at the club, why he's continually allows to mess things up without consequences, and how we're just about to enter another era doomed from the start.

Those comments say a lot about what's going on behind the scenes. Obviously i would eat my words if the players are moved, but considering the lunatics at helm, i doubt anybody is going to be moved.

Arsenal sold Gabriel Paulista to a team in spain don't tell me Rojo can't find a club

We've done this so many times in the past though.

I recall we bought Yorke about 3 days before the start of the season once. He had one training session, then played a 0-0 at West Ham.

Van persie was late too, I think.

What do people expect him to say ? that's the smart thing to say for now, if the board delivers with the remaining singnings (Fernandes, longstaff and Maguire). Then, we can start shipping players out.

Don't forget people that we can sell up to the 31st of august, it's buying that's the problem.

Problem in that comparison is I don't think Paulista was on crazy money at Arsenal. I am fairly sure someone would buy Rojo on a cut price deal but Ed fecked us by giving him a salary way beyond what he is worth and so if Rojo wants to stay and collect his money it is hard to force him out. I would personally take anything I can get and tell Rojo we will pay the difference in wages to get him off the books, I would even personally drive him to the airport and buy him a happy meal for the road but I think Ed is wired differently. My take on Ed is that due to his ego he always wants to be seen as winning every deal he does and he doesn't get that with dross like Rojo winning is just getting rid at any cost.

He was permanent when he said this though wasn't he? I do wish we would be a bit more ruthless though. Some of these players shouldn't even be making the tour.

I have probably mentioned this many times. Our negotiation process is very slow. Look how long that Wan-Bissaka transfer took. In the end we had to pay what Palace demanded in the first place £50mil. I would understand if it takes long but we lower the asking value. It seems though in the end we always pay what the other teams demand. So why not pay it in the beginning and get it over with, its just another 10-15 mil difference. (A great example this season is Real Madrid transfers look how many they got in a short period) that should be our aim.

I’m way more upset at the players who are still here and not leaving then about the ones we’re not adding

Yeah me too. We have such a large squad - we definitely need to ship off the likes of Darmian and Rojo. Plus quite a few others who never play!!

I don’t get too hung up on transfer season as I don’t follow other leagues so don’t get caught up in the muppetry. But if we don’t make a few more signings we’re in trouble. Even with Arsenal and Chelsea’s failings.

As it stands I guess we’d line up as:

DDG
AWB-Smalling-Lindelof-Shaw
Fred-McTominay-Pogba
Rashford-Lukaku-Martial

Not exactly inspiring is it? Especially given all the noise that Pogba and Lukaku want out (I’d be ok with both going but I don’t trust our ability to replace them at all).

Players can still come and players can still go, so it's too early to judge. But players who could have been out by now only to be given new contracts... That's a worry.

5 weeks is just too much work for Ed and Ole to sign the likes of Bruno, Maguire and Longstaff.
It took us about month to sign Daniel James and another month to sign AWB, and they're not even International transfers. If we can sign one of the aforementioned exciting players listed above within the next 5 weeks, I'd be absolutely thrilled.
