Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

Ole has said Rashford will be the number 9 next season, so expecting otherwise is just a pipe dream to be honest.

Rashford can be an excellent number 9, but he needs to focus on his development instead of trying to be a superstar over achieving nothing, like his buddy.

Yep, we definitely need two. Can't decide if they should both be creative, or one creative, one DM though.

One must see things as a whole. We're set to sign AWB. That means we've gonna have 2 defensive fullbacks who are decent in defending but not quite great in crossing. Under such circumstances Ole has a decision to make. He can either counter to that by adding at least 1 quality winger else he can embrace the fact that we lack good crossers and go for a diamond 4-4-2 system with Pogba, Fred and Matic/Ndidi in midfield, Bruno Fernandes as no 10 and Rashford & Martial upfront. AWB and Shaw will cover the defensive role of a winger, Pogba and Fred will be mezzalas with Rashford and Martial helping when the team is attacking.

If Pogba leaves then the whole dynamic changes. We can afford going for a 4-2-3-1 system with someone like Doucoure & Partey in midfield who will provide ample cover + can constantly go up and down. Martial/James would be on the left, Fernandes as AMC and Jadon on the Right with Rashford or Lukaku/Haller upfront.

De Gea
AWB ____ Lindelof Shaw
____ ____ Pogba
____ Rashford Martial

Minimum Two of those positions got to be filled. CB and CM a must for top 4.

Get 3 more in and we should be well on our way to rebuilding.

If Lukaku leaves obviously would need an extra. Maybe spend half the fee in Ben Yedder or something.

We do have a choice. Stop blindly putting faith into mediocre and average players who have zero signs of justifying that faith. Players like Lingard, Jones, Bailly, Young, Rojo should have been long gone but instead we are blindly trusting them to have a better next season. We tried playing with Rashford/Martial as number 9 and every single time it was a disaster, there are 0 signs it will magically start working.

Give a name then don’t just talk BS saying “we do have a choice”.

Personally I would say we need one creative and one DM but that is just my opinion

I agree with that. Either a DM with very good passing and dribbling so Pogba/ the front 3 don't need to drop deep every game to collect balls or a more classic destroyer and a MC good at creating chances so we don't have to 100% rely on Pogba for that every game. Neves and Fernandes would be amazing but i doubt it ca happen. Out of the two if we can only get one i would go for Fernandes because we already have this more classic destroyer in Matic and look for a regista next summer.

People keep calling Matic a destroyer but the only thing he destroys is our fluidity with his dilly dallying on the ball.

I think we need a CB and CM and we probably will go big on one of these. I would prefer 2 CM - Tielemans and Bruno would be ideal for me. Doucoure as an outside bet.

For CB it's more difficult. I can see us dropping a ton on Maguire but I would hope for a better alternative to be honest. I like the look of Ruben Dias, but it may be a bit too soon for him. If De Ligt does sing for Juve maybe there is a chance to get one of their's current crop from them, I'd imagine they need to balance the books a bit.

Toby at 25m looks reasonable for a stop gap if we plan on integrating Tuanzebe.

If we can't sign Maguire, we can go for Andersen (Sampdoria). He has similar attributes, namely very good in air and good distribution.

If one of those signings isn't a decent CB who manages to stay healthy and play consistently, I guarantee he'll be sacked by then.

He should walk out if there are no more than 2 signings apart from Wan Bissaka and James. James I consider as a future prospect. That means we have signed only AWB till now.

Anyone seeing this happen? I would jump on that bus, seems like an intelligent choice for the future. Also a cheap option, gives us chance to assess CM and RW situations

would be great, but why would Toby leave a CL finalist in good shape for United? Just for the money? Don't really see it.

6th place again then. . Remember Barca matches and all these last two months of the season hitting every shot into the crowd? He couldn't finish to save his life.

I'd agree.
If he leaves Spurs now, he has shot himself in the foot.
Stay one more year then leave on a FREE and pocket multi millions in a signing on fee.
Its a no brainer.

Nobody is giving a 31 year old Alderweireld multi millions in a signing on fee. By that point he’ll be a West Ham level signing.

No top clubs will be interested in him. They aren’t now.

What about 4 players still at the club who were to leave?

Either we're for some reason waiting until we complete our incomings, or much much more likely we cannot get such high earners off the bill.

The point of holding on for a couple of extra mill for Darmian seems bizarre, bearing in mind we'll just pay him that in wages anyway if he stays, and that he featured in about 5 or 6 games last year - ie total waste of time keeping him.

We need to stop the stopgap mentality, the buy someone for short term gain.
In a year we might find he's dropped off a cliff, and we're saddled with another 3 years of 200k+ a week.

We have to learn from the Rooney, Sanchez type errors

New report claims Solskjaer's in for 4 more players after Wan-Bissaka.

My guess is a CD for 70m max (De Ligt hopefully but unlikely, alternatives Maguire and Diop), CM for 40m max (Longstaff or Tielemans probably), AM for 50m max (Bruno Fernandes or Lo Celso) and versatile ST for 40m max (Ben Yedder or Haller). With James (15m) and AWB (50m), this would total around a £250m spend which was the rumoured budget months ago. None of this 100m BS that was rumoured to get AWB's price down. This wouldn't include sale fees with Lukaku, Rojo, Bailly, Darmian, Herrera and Sanchez leaving.

Predicted squad:
GK: De Gea, Romero, Grant
RB: Wan-Bissaka, Dalot
LB: Shaw, Young
CD: Diop, Lindelöf, Smalling, Jones
CM: Pogba, Longstaff, McTominay, Fred, Matic, Garner
AM: Bruno Fernandes, Lingard, Pereira, Gomes
RW: Mata, Chong
LW: Martial, James
ST: Rashford, Ben Yedder, Greenwood

I really hope that if we sign a player over 27 people don’t start going into meltdown saying shit like ‘so much for youth and energy’. We blatantly need experience too and at least one signing should be somebody that’s seen it and done it.

I think you will get Bruno Fernandes and Longstaff, but no idea which centre back you will get?

You aren't in the running for De Ligt, and Maguire favours City, so absolutely no idea which centre back you would go for?

Who are the 6 likely to leave?

Ander is gone.. No one else has really been linked with a move away.. (not counting De Gea and Pogba as we clearly wouldnt want to sell them)
Darmian, Rojo?, Bailly?... who else?

I think that the best approach to find that is to follow the transfers. We've signed AWB which means that 1-2 fullbacks are now a surplus (Valencia has left and Darmian might be leaving as well). We'll probably bring Tuanzebe back + we'll buying a new CB. Considering that under Ole's watch we have given Jones a long term contract then would that mean the end of Rojo and Bailly at OT? Meanwhile James is comfortable on the Left flank which probably means that Sanchez might be on the way out and we all know that Ole would listen to an interesting Inter's bid for Lukaku.

A caretaker is allowed to give contracts to players now?

He might have been a caretaker but surely he was asked his opinion about the matter. Jones's renewal is also in line to Ole's British core policy as well.

Why would a club care about a caretakers opinion?

they made him the manager and he's more then a caretaker manager. He's a United legend who took the job midway season. That demands respect.

Yes end of March, while the contract was signed by Jones early Feb.

Ok but you cant ask why the club would listen to a caretaker if they appoint him as manager a month later.

He was still a caretaker, regardless of his status at the club.

Not sure why anyone would think a club will care about the opinion of a caretaker on contract extensions.

Do you really think that the club wasn't considering signing Ole up until the end of March?

More than a month, still doesn't mean they would have taken his opinion on the matter.

I am sure they were considering him after those good results (feb/march) but it doesn't mean they were going to give him the job when they started thinking about giving him the job.

I am sure there would have been discussions before to give Jones an extension by the club, not just pop up with a extension on first week of feb.
