Sofyan Amrabat | signs for United on loan

I would rather take a chance on Mats Wieffer (Feyenoord). Could be a long term replacement for Casemiro. In the meantime could share the number 8 with Mason

United need to look at younger alternatives because as it stands the team is headed for a Liverpool season in the future with multiple players regressing in performances due to age. Varane, Casemiro, Eriksen and in the not too distant period Bruno. Mount is good provisionally due to his profile / age but there needs to be more.

I'd rather we got Lavia as future first teamer and understudy to Casemiro but doubt that will happen

Hopefully we can get rid of Fred and Van De Beek and maybe Mctominay (my worry is he is homegrown) but all three need to go

Amrabat in wouldn't be the worst in the world

Apparently Amrabat was one of the main influencers of the great team spirit and culture that the Moroccan team had at the World Cup - that plus he can cover Casemiro and play alongside him in big, tight matches really make me think he'd be a great squad player and great professional

What is the reported fee? I’d love Lavia from Southampton who not only would be a good squad option for Casamiro but could actually be his replacement in the coming years

20/25m apparently.

Lavia would be double I believe.

Shame that

Maybe if we get a few sales over the line we could stretch for Lavia because he looks to be a top player already for his age

Feels like we have heard he is already going elsewhere hence the lack of concrete links

Fred - solid £15m and McT for around £25m. Who we can sign for £40m instead of this fella? He was immense at WC, but his stats in a weaker league are not outstanding

He may not have the stats but think he definitely has the character to partner Casemiro in big games and cover him when required too

No doubt, he is very responsible, hardworking and disciplined player with some skill. Good choice for 25m. I’m just suggesting an alternative option. May be a more expensive one.

I don't get the price valuation, Fred has consistently got more play time than McT, Fred is a regular in the Brazil team, McT in Scotland .... I do not get why £15m only for Fred.... TBH I think both are mediocre

I guess age and passport are factored in.

Fred is 30 and is in his last contract year. I think he's the better player though.

Shhh. I thought we were trying to sell them for decent fees.

Fred is already 30 though, while McT is only 26. There's age factor in transfer fee.

But if its on me, I think I would sell Fred for 20-25m and Mctominay for 25-30m

Although the figure quoted for Lavia is 50Mil, I think it is artificially high due to the 10% Sell On Clause inserted by Man City when he joined Soton last season.

In reality, with Man City having a 40Mil Buy back clause which comes into effect at the end of next season, I think that there must be an element of wiggle room in negotiations.

Another slow midfielder? Hopefully a Carrick in terms of positioning. Him and Casemiro isn’t the quickest pairing out there.

Looked quick when he caught up with Mbappe to make tackle in World Cup semi final

That tackle was wild. Not only did he catch Mbappe, he mowed him down in the penalty box, got the ball, kept it in play and began a new build up.

I'm not completely convinced by him, but it would add depth to our squad and improve our midfield - which I am all for. We still need two strikers though, so I wish we would prioritise that.

His positioning isn’t great which is why he was racing all around the pitch committing sliding tackles in the World Cup. Made him look like an all action midfielder. The spaces he left in midfield were the same spaces he was then running through with the ball which then added to the impression of ball carrying midfielder.

I really don’t see what you guys are seeing in Amrabat. It’s a World Cup impulse buy six months after the event, normally you’d expect common sense a clear head to have kicked in by now. He’s certainly not adequate cover for Casemiro and isn’t even as good as the Fred we’re selling to fund his purchase and make space in the squad with.

He’ll be in the deadwood pile by November or even worse, getting game time because of the money we’ve spaffed on him.

So who is your idea of adequate cover then

Yeah could definitely do with an experienced cheap striker as well IF either Greenwood doesn't come back or Kane decides to join Bayern

World cup impulse? Obviously not consider EtH relationship with the player. But I’m not a big fan either.

Trust EtH though.

I don't mind this guy, but, is it too premature to consider Mainoo as a cover for Casemiro? If yes, how far is he from breaking into the squad?

Not only I like what I'm seeing in Mainoo, but we could use these funds to top out on a striker.

Thoughts? (and pardon for the slight derail)

I trust EtH with the future of the club as a first team coach and like the direction of travel with regards to playing style and the way he’s managing the team.

His record with signings is spotty though, some excellent, others not so. I’d be much more comfortable if that side of things was being led by somebody else with EtH being consulted, rather than identifying our targets which seems to be the case at the moment. I’d like to see more targets who don’t have a previous connection with him.

Phase in Mainoo and sign this guy because let's face it we aren't signing Kane this summer

You are probably right about that. But it is obviously not a world cup impulse. I also think he is more qualified to assess him and his suitability for what he wants the players to do against, say, Fred than most supporters. Not only has he probably seen Sofyan more, he has also coached both of them.

So again I will ask who should we sign

Lavia should be the obvious target. People will say we don’t have the budget.

So the alternative is to fill the squad with mediocre shite, we’re taking sideways steps all the time spending years recycling in and out crap players instead of buying the right player in the first place.

You know what we should do if we can’t sign the right quality of player? Don’t sign anybody sell Fred promote Mainoo

I will say you do make a very valid point about wanting to see less transfer targets who already have that connection to Erik
