I'm not convinced that is what we are looking for. Last season, ETH wanted FDJ for the deep lying, press resistant playmaker role. Either that was aswell as Casemiro or instead, but this guy is similar in style to FDJ, so maybe he would come in as an FDJ alternative. ETH is clearly trying to transition the squad to suit his playing style, and eventually it will, but what will he do with great players like Rashford or Bruno if they don't fit his style (not suggesting they do or don't)? Will he adapt his style to accommodate them, get them to adapt their game, or sell?
I wouldn't say Andre is like FdJ at all. He doesn't really take the ball deep and carry it but he's absolutely brilliant at receiving the ball under pressure, evading the press and circulating the ball to team-mates. Very secure in possession but definitely wouldn't have FdJ's creativity in terms of dribbling or passing.

Andre or Amrabat?

I have never seen Andre play, but from your description of him he sounds a lot like Arthur. Is that unfair?

It's years since I've seen much of Arthur but I think he played in a more advanced role? Andre is definitely a DM - although more from a positional point of view than being defensively focussed. He's a proper pivot always available for short passes which he can receive under very high pressure and move the play along. I do think he'd be a lovely apprentice to Casemiro as he definitely has qualities that Casemiro doesn't have. Casemiro for all his quality, is not very good at receiving the ball with back to goal and turning. Far better than Fred in those positions but still a long way off the ideal.

Shite source, but I’ll take it!

It's only in the "monitoring" stage... If you've seen how we do transfers you should know there are loads of stages after that...

* considering bid
* preparing a bid
* counting the money
* realising we don't have enough
* offering half of his worth
* haggling
* seeing him go to Bayern when their first bid is accepted

* starting McT next season

I laughed.

The problem with having specialist back ups is that they get 0 game time up until the first choice player is out of commission. And when they do get to play, inevitably they're rusty and then also they're not as good as the first choice player so then get shat on.

So I'm not really a fan of buying a Casemiro back up, unless he can also play alongside Casemiro in midfield or another position.

We’ve finally entering the monitoring stage :drool: which means we are one step closer to the next stage “stage no. 2 - considering the bid”

I know exactly how we operate, but as RedRonaldo’s post above: one step closer.

You got to start somewhere. Trust the process and stay positive!

Finding cover for Casemiro isn't an easy task when the budget is limited and the squad has many other holes to fill.

Would really like to shim here. Would cover for Casemiro or play alongside him in big games.

starting to like the idea of signing him. He could play in mid with Casemiro, not just as back up. In fact you could even see Casemiro play higher up the pitch. We saw last season that he can be effective in the opposition half. Amrabat keeps it simple with is passing, we need that, we've a team with Bruno and Rashford who lose possession a lot, even Casemiro's passing at times can be sloppy. Having him recycling possession would be a welcome addition.

From the limited amount I have seen of him in the World cup and Conference league final he looked a very good player.

But how consistent has he been Serie A, good enough for a move to us?

Or is he just a player who only reaches heights occasionally now and again? We already have too many of them.

Are there any genuine links to him confirmed by any of Credible sources ?

Casemiro well able to have freedom to get forward showed it plenty times last season with goals and assists.

Amrabat holding. Casemiro to get forward more with Mount/Bruno.

Good option to have.

Feel do better job then both Fred or Mctominey in midfield.

I think he is clearly an option but dependent on our other purchases and sales.

I think it’s clear that we are looking to bring in Mount, Onana and Hoijland then go on tour and get some player sales done. Then we’ll see what the remaining budget looks like. Could be 2-3 signings in August then.

Not ideal but that’s Glazernomics for ya!

So you want to let our only true DM get forward more and Amrabat who isn't a DM hold the midfield? I don't even know what to say..

From the little I’ve seen of him, he is bald. I’d need to see more of him to confirm though

Options mate to have in different ways we can rotate in midfield. Obviously Casemiro is our DM but just saying he is well capable of getting forward as well.

From watching the conference final Amrabat was deepest midfielder, getting on the ball linking play from defence to attack so to me looked like a holding midfielder.

It is likely we will buy another midfielder. Fred and Donny leaving would leave us ridiculously short. Both of those should cover the cost of this guy.

Not sure why, but I want this signing very badly. Feels like could be 'cheapish' way for some midfield coverage. Admittedly only remember the guy from the WC.

Why are we now targetting players Liverpool rejected?

When did he get “rejected” by Liverpool exactly? Or is it more likely he was linked with them at one stage in the past but it was never serious just like we are with 200 players every window. If that’s how you feel though I’m sure you’ve taken great comfort in the fact we’ve signed one of Klopp’s first choice targets in Mason Mount which should offset some of the disappointment in us potentially signing one of their “rejects”. :rolleyes:

I felt our form dipped and Casemiro wasn't as good as he was when we started allowing him to play further forward. Would like to see him return to an out and out dm sat in front of the defence again.

Amrabat would be an ideal signing due to cost, back up to Case and having the ability to play alongside with him in certain games. I reckon he would get considerable gametime over the season.

the only issue with that is he still needs someone next to him who can track runners. We saw last season, even when he was playing well, that's not part of his game. His positioning is excellent, but once good midfielders bypassed that, he doesn't have the legs to get back and track them. The problem was made worse by the fact that Eriksen couldn't do that either, especially in the latter part of the season post injury. Haven't seen enough of Amrabat to know if he can do that. There is that one clip where he tracked Mbappe and put in a great challenge. I haven't seen enough of him to know if that is a consistent part of his game, but if it were, he could be an excellent addition.

Casemiro just needs less games and he'll be fine. This seems like a very smart signing. Can replace Case in the smaller games and go alongside him in the tough ones.
