I’m a huge fan of Potter, but suggesting he should be managing England is completely mental.
Firstly, not everything is about G/A. You can compare the difference in our play and creativity with and without him. Also, he’s just a better footballer than Saka and Bowen. Thirdly, we cannot make form arguments if Jack Grealish is in there. Sancho is a better footballer imo and has had a better season in a factually worse team.
Er, didn't he turn down Spurs? Definitely couldn't be easily poached by a bigger club, and he's not stupid enough to go anywhere near the England job at this point in his career. Far too smart and ambitious for that.
He’s only like 3 months into a new job and has infinite money to spend on an exciting project. He’d probably turn the job down even if he was offered it. Potter I get the feeling has taken Brighton as far as they can go and might be up for a new challenge.
The sack if he hadn't got those last two tournaments credit in the bank, that will keep him safe as houses for the FA.

Southgate is and always has been brutal. Results have saved him, but this England team should be doing even better than they are. Look at the Euro finals. Playing against England and he parks the bus? WTF? This England team is extremely talented going forward. He also has to stop trying to be too smart. If a player starts for Liverpool or City they should be starting for England. Sure, maybe there's a headache with Walker and TAA, but England needs to attack so start TAA. Or at the very least rotate the two. And enough playing a right footer at LB. Bring a proper LB. Don't plug a hole with a guy playing out of position...
He had easy fixtures for the most part. Was quite lucky.

I'm curious, what would qualify as a decent England showing at the World Cup? Semi finals? Or winning it (which won't happen)?
Absolutely fantastic manager, will be able to choose any managerial job he wants after the inevitable World Cup win. I can only hope England are able to tie him down to a long-term contract.
Southgate is soon going to realise that at international level unless you have a Midfield playmaker like Pirlo, Kimmich or Moderic then you need extreme pace or a Maverick with ridiculous creativity.
England did well in last two tournaments because he found all of that in Sterling, Kane, Grealish, Fodden, Sancho, Saka, Rashford, Mount, we had many saying We have 7 World class strikers when in reality we had one Harry Kane and one elite one, R sterling and a lot of very good emerging talents. Club England was great, Gareth got a lot right, but he got somethings wrong too! Playing in the Euros we had so called great defenders, Maguire was now a world class Libero, Stones class and unflustered , Shawberto and Kyle Walker , many peoples selection as the best defender in the tournament, then we had two dynamos in midfield with Rice and Phillips with the experienced Henderson and young maverick Bellingham as back ups.
England were a major force again, it didn’t matter about Gareth not being a great coach, we had great players.
However in Reality without Rashford pace when he’s on his A lgame , Luke Shaw or Ben Chillwell covering Maguire obvious deficiencies and some one in midfield who offers some much needed creativity like James Maddison or J Grealish playing in a position where international football is made for either of them to be the advanced no 8/10 alongside J Bellingham who plays as BTB 8 and Declan as a marauding 6, in a truly elite Midfield three, England are actually a very average counter attacking team with currently very little pace, we have a 33 year right footed left foot who was never the quickest, a Ferrari at right back that has to sweep up the two centre backs so can’t get forward and more horizontal passes in midfield that a Times crossword.
They are our best 3 midfield options with maybe Phil Fodden alternating with Grealish or Maddison dependent on form but none of these three can really play as inverted wingers/strikers cause none of them has any pace, play the two city boys both with Kane and you might have the slowest front 3 among the top 10 seeded teams in the World Cup. The question should be; Are England Fans now starting to feel like Man United Fans and was Gareth Southgate anymore qualified to manage England than Ole was to manage Man United?
Both our inverted strikers need to possess express pace because Kane drops so deep in so many games simply to push back the opponents defence. England played this way for a bit and did well but now Gareth is listening to everyone bar himself, sorry Gareth If Harry Maguire never let England down nor did Marcus Rashford with his goals and assists, Jack Grealish , a great mercurial talent but like Phil Fodden and to a lesser extent Jared Bowen who does have elite pace but no experience, none of the First two would beat Marcus or Raheem in a foot race and even if they had a 5yard head start, we destroyed Spain playing this way on the counter.

People are quick to forget that Rashford who has 12 international goals and similar number of assists from 48 caps of which most have been from the bench has a goal involvement of nearly 1 in every 2 games at international level because his pace scares teams to death.
Now Gareth go crunch the numbers Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, B Saka, J Bowen(I do like this guy) , Teachers Pet - Mason Mount have a combined total of 11 goals and 9 assists from over 90 caps and a goal
Involvement combined of 1 in every 4.5 games, stats like these are never going to win you a tournament now are they ?

We need 4 elite level inverted strikers, all express, probably means R Sterling, Rashford, J Bowen who is elite pace, and Sancho or B Saka both quick enough, not Mount, Fodden, Grealish or Madison , pick the best 2 or 3 on form and play them as a number 10. Don’t take 4 right backs we need 2 left footed left backs and 2 right footed backs to overlap the inverted strikers, if the squads for the WC are increased to 26 you can take 3 right backs otherwise it’s just 2 not 4! Gareth stop making stupid mistakes !

Always has been an average coach, over glorified after beating the shittest sides in a tournament.
Average is overstating it. People forget that prior to getting fortunate runs in the EC and WC he was the manager that got Boro relegated and kept them relegated.
I really did not want to bring back his past successes at club level, but there you go. It's definitely coming home isn't it.

I'm not sure. He's had a very unconventional career by most English manager's standards. I think he'll choose his next job out of some very specific criteria. I wouldn't be surprised if he chose a job in a foreign league either.
He will leave after the World Cup. His shelf life has been reached and he'd be better suited to a background role in the England setup. Consulting on the next managers, liaising with the players etc.

It's all a bit weird to be frank. No open play goals in the nations league at all, but is that any surprise when he's picking some absolute journeymen to go along. Surely it's obvious to anyone with a brain that both Rashford and Sancho have the talent to absolute destroy teams, and a LOT more than the guys he's picking at current- as a manager of any club (international or ourselves, for instance) you'd have to - HAVE to - get them training and firing because why on earth you'd pick the dross he's picking instead, whatever their extremely arguable 'form' might be, and then every defender you can because you don't want to get obliterated by better teams and managers -... it just feels like Solskjaer at an England level, only without the amiableness. I can't help feeling Ten Hag will embarass a few people once he's got those guys in a system that shows how good they can actually be.

England are a generally well prepared side by a coach who has taken us further than any manager in decades. I will take that. Who cares care about a limp performance in a useless friendly competition at the end of an exhausting season? The players should have been on a beach resting ahead of the next World Cup, and this performance shows why.

Kane and foden are both playing at a much higher level than either rashford or Sancho.
And on past performance, Sterling is ahead of them too.
Southgate not putting all his eggs in the basket of getting rashford fit and firing is really no criticism at all.
The English (mainly white male) Old Boys Club is THE problem. At every level of football barring the very lowly paid or unpaid, and largely unfunded, bits.
You're only looking at the end result and not the full picture. Englands national team is miles away from reaching anywhere near it's full potential considering the players available, the teams you beat to go further than any manager in decades were shit.
