So...what could Van Troll's Surprise be!? | LVG: "not a striker - it's something else"

Best case scenario is lewandowski....but Bayern would be nuts to seek him.

Surely by predicting who it's going to be, it will no longer be a surprise? So it must be someone that nobody has mentioned :nervous:

I dont see why Bayern would be shopping their best assets, they dont need the money, they need their own additions. We wont get lewandowki or muller surely, or serious questions need to be asked to bayerns board.

I don't think he meant Memphis. His English isn't the best but LVG talks about wanting 20+ goals from a striker and Depay hasn't shown that in the premiership. He can do a job in certain games but I think today would have been easier for him with more space.

Well no, because he hasn't played in the 'premiership' yet. But he's done it in the league where he actually played, so you can't ask much more of him than that without involving time travel/alternative universes.

I actually think if you put aside preconceptions based on where he has mostly played until now, he has all the attributes of a top-class all-round striker. He's fast, powerful, a brilliant dribbler, a confident finisher from all ranges, can head the ball very well for a shorter player, and is good receiving the ball to feet and running onto it.

I mean, put aside the fact that he likes a shot from range, and he's basically Aguero.

Benzene would be a massive shock, as we haven't exactly been extensively linked with him and obviously there are very few strikers better currently available, if any.

Lewandowski or Kane wouldn't come as a shock, in the sense that their names have been banded around a lot lately. Obviously none of us expect United to sign either one however.

So long as Rooney isn't accommodated in midfield then I'm all for it.

I call Berahino as my guess.

I know he's not done it in the premiership but you cannot use what he did in Holland as proof he can do it here. Don't get me wrong. He might and probably will end up a striker but I think like Ronaldo it's a process. He could score a lot of goals this season or he might be someone that improves season after season. The point is though, if you are wanting a 20 goal man this season - do you rely on Memphis? Difficult to say.

I highly doubt that i'd be surprised with any striker we sign, all the top established strikers aren't available, nothing will persuade madrid or bayern to give up players they don't want to sell.

Hope people take note of the word "maybe" because come August and nothing happens, you see fans throwing tantrums saying LVG promised a striker.

I can't decide if that would be great or not...

I'd take it, primarily because I've never been fully convinced Di Maria actually wants to be here. I think Pedro is a very good player, and Cavani is a player I like. His work rate is excellent and he has a lot of other good qualities which I feel would fit in well to a team ethic.

Surely the surprise would have been Pedro until Ed opened his mouth..... maybe he didn't pass the message on to Louis

I'd keep di maria (unless he really wants to go). I just think hes a tier above the other 2 and at a level thats really difficult to replace.
We kind of need the messi level players, not the guys who do a decent solid job playing with them is my take on it (obviously messi level is unattainable really but you get my meaning)

I don't know who it will be but I am almost certain that discussions between United and the players club are already underway. LvG said it's a process, he said the same about De Gea and the exact same about Di Maria, I think "process" is LvG speak for negotiations are taking place, be that club/agent/player whatever.

Don't think he meant we're actually negotiating with a club. I read it as we'd sign a striker depending on various circustances.

Yeah i'm probably falling that way. Still want di Maria to succeed though...
