So...what could Van Troll's Surprise be!? | LVG: "not a striker - it's something else"

Was olic a favourite of lvg's? I remember wondering how this guy got to start for bayern. Then he scored against us.

Van Gaal did seem to favour Olic over Gomez, if I recall correctly. Scored against us in both legs.

That 2nd leg still annoys me. We were cruising in the 1st half, playing ridiculously good football, tearing them apart. Nani, Valencia and Rafael were incredible. It looked like we were going to hammer them, until right at the end of the first half, Olic walked through Carrick like he wasn't even there and poked it in. Then Rooney went off and we played half an hour without a striker, backs to the wall, Rafael red card, Robben, urgh.

I'm miles off topic. Back on topic: It won't be Olic.

So gomez?

I hope it isn't just converting someone ie. Januzaj.

Bale, Di Maria swap.

Not saying it's likely, but it would be a surprise. And it would probably be good for everyone involved.

I'm trying to think - are there any quality veteran strikers out there who would be content as second choice/competition for Rooney, who could serve as a stop gap option for us for a couple seasons?

We don't have a 20 goal a season striker. Rooney has only done it twice since he has been with us in 2009/10 and 2011/12. If you take those seasons away, his average premiership goals per season is 13. LVG is wanting more than that. Also Rooney's age is going against him now a tad. So it wouldn't surprise me if LVG and Woody have something they are working on.

EDIT: if it happens, I reckon it will be announced to coincide with the Adidas sponsorship deal...

why do so many people ignore non league goals?
he's got over 20 4 times if you count all goals.

I don't think he meant it as a literal surprise, as in you'll never guess who we're signing. It's his way of saying I'm not telling you.

Can't help but feel that a lot of people in this thread are gonna end up very disappointed
This

I don't actually care who we sign from now on more hopeful that we'll keep AdM and DDG.

But if I'll have to give a name then I'll say Kane

Tbh im guessing its just a muppet signing
Muller, Bale, Ronaldo someone like that. And if we dont get them he makes do with what he has.

I could tell you now that the transfer from Lacazette to Munich was just announced...

But it is 1860 not Bayern
......it is Romuald, not Alexandre (the cousin...)
......and he played for PSG II and not for Lyon

:D

I think he what he meant by surprise was maybe someone good will become available later on. Sort of like Falcao last season.

Laugh if you must be its.. Messi. Heard it here first.

Hard to see us getting a striker that is going to be a starter with the amount of midfielders we have. It would suggest that we will have to change our system to a 1-4-2-3-1. As such, it has to be someone who is comfortable warming the bench or is multi-dimensional and can play across the attacking line(I.e. Cavani, Berahino, etc., incase a player like Di Maria leaves).

I think its Lewandowski. Fergie had him as his contingency plan if he couldn't land Van Persie from Arsenal, so I'm sure we'd have reams of scouting data on him for 4-5 years. He fits Van Gaal's mold of a striker and a big enough name playing for a big club for the transfer to be a cock tease, hence the surprise.
