He probably just wants to keep the media guessing and then, after some claim they know who it is based on their sources, he comes out and says we weren't in for anybody and he was just fooling them, showing them that they're constantly writing rubbish. It's non-sense obviously, as they don't care much about it as long as they get clicks, but I could see van Gaal just trying to prove a point here, albeit it being at the expense of the fans more so than the expense of the press.

They aren't fantasies they are theories. What's the point in creating a "who do you think the mystery striker thread is" and then criticising people for putting a theory forward. We have been linked with Kane on and off, he was the best young striker probably anywhere in the world last year as far as goals/games at the highest level go and Spurs are fundamentally a selling club when the big boys come calling they struggle to hang on to their players, it's a fact.
