So now what happens to Karim Benzema? | Hat-tricks, lots of hat-tricks

??They were absolute shit at that time and had just gotten thumped by barca 6_2 while we were probably the best or second best team in Europe.

Also Madrid era didn't really kick in until Mourinho gone there and even then it took Ancelotti till 2014 to kick start their European dominance.

In hinds he absolutely took the right decision but it wasn't always like this.
What did it matter what happened previously that season?
What mattered is what Madrid were doing to fix it. Buying 10 or so players that summer sure as hell showed the world that Madrid were wanting to build a team to win things. We lost Ronaldo and who did we get? A guy who nobody heard of, not even Benzema... its was his french compatriot.
Then signed a guy who was a sick note who just got relegated with Newcastle and did a 13 page resume to try get a new job with another club.

Now take away the name from both clubs, who would you sign for?

Absolutely deserves the Balon Dor. He has no equal this season.

Lewandowski says hi

This time there's nobody around with similarly good performances, even without winning a major title. Salah or Mbappe are probavly the closest but still considerably away.

Hat-trick tonight, put Barcelona to the sword, didn't expect anything like this considering how the rest of the matches between the 2 have gone.

Six goals in the last two games. Reaching his best moment in terms of confidence at the end of the season.

Benzema and Madrid always seem to find form when it hits UCL knockouts. Coincidence ?

Has to be the best late career renaissance ever. Guy was a fecking shadow in 17/18, looked done and dusted, then Cristiano leaves and suddenly he turns into the best player in the world

easy to do it in a league and country full of corruption, one where all the refs are bought. if he does it in a righteous and competitive league, like the saudi league, then i’ll sit up and take notice.

Just a stupid amount of goals in big games since Cristiano left.
Hat tricks against PSG,Chelsea,Barca, braces against City and Liverpool.
Looking like he's hitting peak form at the perfect time, I wonder how Madrid fitness coach manages that feat every year.

Apart from his running mate at Madrid I don't think you'll find that much argument.
Suárez & Lewa are certainly within the conversation. But Benzema is incredible.

Suarez had the highest peak
Lewandowski the most longevity
Benzema takes the cake when it come to big games

I know Benzema had some years as a supporting striker, and a downright disapointing season or two were he started getting written off, but considering he has been a elite talent playing and delivering on the highest level since he was a teenager all they way back to the mid-2000's I'd give him longevity as well

Well in a sense you're right, the problem is that he was very inconsistent up until 2018. Heck you can read at the start of the thread that people rated Lukaku, Kane, Icardi more than him, while Lewa was at least top 2 strikers for more than 10 years now.

Yep true, either way they are both incredible strikers that both seem to find another gear the deeper into their thirties they get

Not sure who his running mate is. But Suarez and Benzema are the two from this generation who I’d take over the rest. Complete footballers and great strikers.

The true clutch king, imagine France having him instead of Giroud in WC22

He means Cristiano. Although I personally don't agree that he should be labelled as a "striker".

People were sensing a noticeable drop in performance in 2018 and thought he was never going to recover but I think his numbers for someone who doesn't take penalties are very good until that year.

As for the comparison with the rest of players, see the Paco Jemez debate when Benzema was not doing well precisely and Kane was.

Suarez has quite a poor record in the Champions League for some reason.
