I dunno, it’s pretty much the same midfield albeit some years older. Modric has arguably been better this campaign than he was in 16/17. Also, Rodrygo and Vincius have more goals and assists in the competition this year than Bale and Benzema did combined in 16/17.
Nonetheless, it is still an all-time great CL campaign from Benzema. That much is undeniable.

Under analysis of the respective midfields and the wing threats both provide, Madrid are far more into this game than people are giving credit for. It's up to Ancelotti to get his selection - and subs - correct, but it definitely isn't a forgone conclusion, and if Modric goes super sayajin, Liverpool really do have their work cut out both fending Madrid off offensively, but also putting enough bodies forward to do their usual swarming and overwhelming.
Their forwards will have to work backwards as to not tire out the midfield, but in turn, they [the forwards] cannot do that for long without depleting their own tanks, as they'll have less and less left in them to break from deep.
Trent also has a bigggggg problem with Vinicius - he cannot camp in the offensive areas he usually gets the overload provided to him as he'll get absolutely roasted on the counter. Even one on one, he doesn't stand much chance against him and Liverpool are going to have to cater to that with a second body always ready to sweep up.
It seems like a classic cat and mouse game to me, with the midfield battle being decisive, and with the right selection, Madrid are custom made to give Liverpool fits.

One of the greatest comebacks ever IMO by a player. Everyone thought after Ronaldo he was also gone, as for years most(including me) saw him as someone who played for Madrid, only because he is a perfect foil for Ronaldo. But he has proven us all wrong, and shown he can be the best player in the world. Absolutely monster mentality. Ballon d'or for sure, whether Madrid wins UCL or not or even if Messi or Ronaldo win World Cup. Just hope he beats the dippers, we cannot have Liverpool becoming the team to have joint second most UCLs. Real Madrid can have 14, who cares.
