Sneijder to Galatasaray?

Via Twitter :

Ciao Milano, grazie di tutto... Sempre nel mio cuore!!! Grazie a tutti i tifosi.. On my way to Istanbul now... Excited!

Thank fook we didn't pay £40m for him.

So it's the last episode of this soap opera, can't say i'll miss it.

Gerrard was getting a bit giddy about him joining lfc...don't think he was that desperate!

Retired ? Not in the fullest meaning.

Sure it's a sunny place but Galatasaray are in Champions League. He may be still useful.

Such a waste of a good talent, why are all footballers such greedy gits?

The lad could be playing in a good league week in week out but he went for the money, a bit early at 28. He could always had gone in another 3/4 years.

To be fair Inter could barely afford him anymore. Once Moratti managed to win the CL, players like him were literally pushed out of the door

Thats what surprises me even more. Its not even his last chance at a hefty pay cheque. I could understand a 32-33yr old doing it. He's at the prime of his career and he'd have definitely found suitors had his wage demands been around the 125k mark. It must be much higher than that if he could find no one better than galatasaray.

Sneijder took a massive pay cut to join Inter. The result to that was that he was pushed out of the door as soon as Moratti won the CL. He's been struggling with injuries for years and this is probably his last pay check. You can't blame him for that.

You act as if they was on 50k a year and took a 10k cut. Hes set for life and for the sake of 30k a week you'd think he'd rather play competitive football.

He did? I thought he went to Inter on even bigger wages than what he was on at Madrid and Ajax, and then refused to move to numerous big clubs because they wouldn't stump up the wages.

He's 28, he could easily get a 100k odd deal for 4 years with a good club. That'd sort him out long term and depending on him doing well, he could negotiate an even better one. There's no real justification for a player like him moving to turkey aged 28 mate.

£30k a week is £4.2m over the course of his contract, that'll have a big impact on his lifestyle. Let's not forget, after this contract he's probably never going to have the opportunity to earn anything like that amount of money again, what he earns in the next 5 years or so will be more than what he earns in the rest of his life put together. The extra £30k a week isn't so he can buy a new Ferrari every week, it's more like an extra £60k to live on every year for the rest of his life.

Pretty sure he wasn't literally pushed out of the door...unless there's a door with 'Inter Exit' written above it. Why doesn't Moratti just get a trapdoor with a pool of sharks beneath it?

No. He had to take a pay cut to go to Inter. It was on all Italian media including Inter official site.

He's already taken a pay cut to play competitive football and the result of that was that he ended up being shown the door as soon as Moratti fulfilled his goal. I dont think that any big club would have been interested at him at this stage and those who could have been interested in him (ex PSG) could afford his salary.

The man won everything there is to win. He did sacrifices for his career and was treated like shit afterwards. I can't blame him if he wants a last big pay cheque.

I heard a different story.

Inter is totally skint and needs to offload their high earners, they also offered him a new contract with reduced wages but he rejected it, so Inter had to get rid of him.

Now he plays for Gala on around 90k p/w, funny to think him and his agent demanded 250k p/w one and a half years ago when we were trying to get him.

It's probably fair to say Inter wanted a stupid lump sum for him and he wanted stupid wages. Both of those together made for a poisonous financial transfer.

He only pays 15% taxes in Turkey as I've understood it. Just putting it out there.

I tell you what happened. Moratti spent all the dosh to copy his daddy. Once he achieved that, there was no motivation to keep on spending ridiculous money year in year out so high earners like Sneijder and Etoo turned from heroes to burden in a couple of months. The fact that Sneijder is a bit of injury prone + he was played in a position hes not very good in (deep) didn't helped his cause much.

PS Inter is not United. They often players like shit (unless they are Moratti's feck buddies) + they fire managers for fun.

So according to kicker.de he earned 6 mio. € a year (~115k € p/w) at Inter, they offered him a 4 mio. € a year (~77k € p/w) extension and Gala offered 5 mio. € a year (96k € p/w), so he took their offer.

So how much did he earn at Real?

I honestly don't know. However I remember quite vividly Moratti saying that Sneijder had to accept a wage cut to sign with Inter.

I think that's more or less bang on money. Inter in the past year or so have shifted out Lucio, Julio Cesar, Maicon, Eto'o and now Sneijder.

He used to pay a 43% tax in Italy and in Turkey he'll be taxed at 35% from what I could gather (unless either country has preferential treatment for footballers or foreigners, which I don't think they do). He had to take a pay cut to join Galatasaray but they might have made it up by giving him a large signing on fee.

Ohh are we getting one of those shiny RAWK locks on this one now? :D

Jesus, he's tiny.

I think his first assist as a Galatasaray player will be calling a doctor for the man next to him, he's gravely ill.

Inter have this tendency to give up on massive profits and then sell a player for next to nothing almost instantly, don't they?

First it was Adriano. Real and Chelsea were willing to pay €40m+ for him at one point when he was scoring goals in dozens, two years later he was finished and a couple of months later they ended up forcing him out for nothing.

Real offered more than €25m for Maicon in 2010 when Inter won CL, he was also on the wish list of City and Chelsea. They refused to strike a deal, then sold him for €3m two years later.

We'd have paid around £30m for Sneijder last year easily, now they lose him for £5m. Then there's also Julio Cesar who must have been worth £15m+ in his prime and now plays for QPR.

What's wrong with them?

Greed. They appear to want obscene prices for their players. I think they wanted £35-40 million for Sneijder :wenger:

Well I don't fault them for retaining their best players playing at their best. But yeah, there is something oddly weird about how the two (the players in the question and the club) fall out of love with each other after hitting that peak.
