Sneijder to Galatasaray?

I still remember how desperate everybody was on here for Sneijder just a year or two ago. (I was another lurker before joiner)

Crazy to think back to it all really. He really would have been great here though I think and his career wouldn't have gone so tits up. "His loss" is an easy thing to say after missing out on a target, but in this case it really counts.

After Yolanthe the Cabal went on a program named try before you die and did this, I don't think his head will be in the right place.

I still can't get my head around him joining Galatasaray. It's one of the weirdest transfers ever.

Sneijder confirms Manchester United made €20m and he wanted to go

Wesley Sneijder has done an interview with Turkish sport website Fanatik, which is quickly making its way around Europe because of some of the really interesting claims in it. He talks candidly about his move to Galatasaray and why he chose the club and denies that he did so just for the money, saying he had better financial offers from other teams in Europe.

Sneijder points out that Champions League football was a big concern for him and that was a major reason to choose the Turkish club and he also says he was told that a striker would be brought in to make the team more competitive and that's obviously happened with Didier Drogba's arrival, Sneijder points out that he hasn't had promises kept to him in the past so he's happy this is the situation.

He clearly claims Manchester United offered 20m for him "Manchester United, has offered 20 million euros", but that Inter wanted around 50m and that he wasn't kept informed about the situation and reckons he signed his long Inter contract after been given false promises.

Since the summer he claims he was left hanging around for three months after Inter Milan had refused offers, presumably the Manchester United one. However, he's happy it's come to an end and he can get on with his football, he's clearly not happy Inter Milan and how they handled everything.

I tend to believe him here.

He had a 50m euros release clause which was being enforced by Inter, and he wasn't aware it even existed?

Something really doesn't add up here.

I find it a bit hard to believe that Inter would turn down a 20m bid from us last summer. And I find it even harder to believe we went for Sneijder after we already had Kagawa and RvP.

You probably haven't seen Cleverley's and Smalling's birds.

they look like your typical page 3 silicone slag that could be a spokewoman for crowne paints with the amount of foundation and toner and shite they slap on their face.

Schweini's bird, casillas' bird, even sneijder's bird, buffon's bird.

different class.

perhaps it is a british thing? more 'haute-coutre' model esque birds like rose huntington-whitley, kate beckinsale, etc don't go for footballers but their counterparts on the continent and south america will shag up with their footballers?

Exactly, to be honest what classy woman is going to want to be with someone as thick as most english footballers. Can you imagine the conversation in Chez Gerrard of an evening?!? "Errrrm put the Phil Collins on Love, it helps me errrrm concentrate on me Errrrm janet and john books errrrrm" or over at the Rooneys "Eh colleen la, can you check my hair plugs, Im off to grab a granny night down the trout and fiddler"

So he scored last night against Madrid, did anyone watch the match? should we have gone for him or not?

No. I have watched him a bit at Galatasary and he is a very hit and miss player since being there. Plus his high wages and Inter's ridiculous demands meant that the move would not have been worth while in my opinion.

One goal against a slightly weakened Madrid team who were so many goals up at that point will not changes most people's opinions.

It's too late in his career for United to sign him.

What fans who haven't watched him don't understand is that he is fundamentally a No.10, NOT a central midfielder and NOT a wide midfielder either.

What really annoyed me about the rumours was listening to the likes of Lou Macari on MUTV who have zero knowledge of European football, and give their opinions about the suitability of players for United without any proper argument.

So yeah, Sneijder has been a fine player, but not right for United as we already have Rooney and Kagawa for the No. 10 position.

But when Sneijder was first rumoured to joint United, Rooney - despite wearing #10 - wasn't really a #10. He was our goalscorer and all out striker. Things have shifted a bit since, and he's played behind Welbeck and now RVP, but at one point, Sneijder certainly could have been considered very suitable for United, playing behind Rooney.

You answered your own question!

He scored a goal against the team we got knocked out by. This is indisputable proof that we should've signed him.

No argument with you, but I wonder what Fergie actually thinks is Rooney's best position.

Personally, I would've played him right up top instead of letting him play No.10 or asking him to play wide left. I don't like it when he is allowed to run free and "interfere" in midfield.

Sneijder can play CM much more effectively than either Kagawa or Rooney though and has done in the past at pretty much every club too when required. He has good positional ability, and good long passing range from which he can dicate the tempo of the game from deeper too when in song.

Inter sold him for cheaper in January and his wages weren't that high. But i guess, the ship had sailed by then.

He's definitely better than what we have in his position.

When he joined Galatasaray he hadn't played in a month. Was really poor in the 1st leg against Real but really good in the 2nd leg. The Schalke games were physical clashes were he didn't manage to get into. Then again, Galatasaray's tactics in the CL are a bit over the top but they did manage to get them to the quarter finals. Credit to Terim.
