Smashley Young

Hopefully when he does get back he'll replicate his early season performances for us rather than the ones a little later on.

I'm hoping his dip in form might have been due to him carrying the knock, he was great in the first few weeks.

With Valencia on sparkling form and Nani being Nani, he won't be starting for us though.

What does Cleverley have to do with Young?

It'll be good to have Young back. Admittedly he's not missed as much as others, considering the form of Valencia right now, and assuming Nani isn't actually suffering a bad injury, but he's a useful option to have.

So, Tom is nowhere near first team action.....two weeks behind his rehab. I give up. Honestly.

For someone called "Sunny" you sure do find the dark interpretation. I read that as Cleverley being two weeks behind the other two. Which is not great, but does not imply he´s had a further setback.

Be delighted to see Young back, especially if he can recapture his early season form. When he returned from injury first time around he seemed a bit off his game and then he went and got injured again. The Ashley Young we saw in early autumn would be a massive boost to us now. Against Liverpool we really missed the twin threat of Nani and Valencia. Ji got about, scored cos of it, but the basic role of a winger isn't one that suits him which means with Nani injured if the opposition shut down Valencia they shut down our service into the box from wide areas. Young's return couldn't come at a better time. With two proper wingers in the team again it won't be so easy to stop us getting the ball wide and into the danger zone.

Glad he is close to returning.

He will benefit greatly from Scholes' cross field passes.

He'll be a great option but I can't see him taking Valencia's place in the team given his current form. Given that Nani is pretty much a cert to start, his role will be limited to just an impact sub. Great depth of wingers when everyone is fit though.

We need to give those two a rest sooner rather than later. They've played a lot of games now in a short period. You're right though atm that valencia is playing too well to be dropped. Long term though I expect nani and young to be first choice, though Young does need to step up his game.

I have to be honest... I keep forgetting he even plays for us...

Should be a real bonus to have him back.

------------Back 5-------------
----Carrick----------Giggs-----
Valencia----Young-----Nani
------------Rooney--------------

I heard Young can play through the centre. Is he any good at it? If so he could help ease the midfield injury crisis. Lots of pace and penetration in this lineup.

We need him to rediscover the early season form and play those balls in from the wings. Hope that he gets back playing sooner rather than later.

He played that position for us before, but didnt shine at all. I prefer him on the wing

To be fair, he played it for Villa too and was very good. We have more wingers available right now than most other positions so I don't see why not.

I'd rather play Welbeck up front with Rooney in behind him.

On this season's form as a whole, Young would be on the bench I'm afraid.

However, there isn't much in it.

I don't know why he slows the game down so much. He has good skills, pace and delivery but he doesn't take on the opposition full back like Nani would in that situation. Was a frustrating performance from him.

He wasn't that bad. I thought he manage to create space to deliever the ball quite a few times. Problem was the delievery. Happy to have him back, though, we'll need him.

What do you people expect first game back from a long injury lay-off

Rooney was worse, and people are putting him in their top three in the MOM thread

I didn't think Rooney was very good. But there weren't that many that were very good today overall and he scored when needed. That's why I have him in my top three. He definitely wasn't the best. Flawless game from Rafael.
