Smashley Young

He had 1 or 2 moments but on the whole he was awful. I was screaming for Valencia or even Park to come on.

How did he not score? He must take a bit of a blame for today's result. Should practice finishing all week.

Not a good game from him, far too many poor crosses which is something he's generally great at. Should have finished atleast 1 of those 2 chances.

I think he crosses with his eyes closed...no one at the far post, no probs, that's exactly where I'll put cross after cross

He's always struck me as one of those players who crosses into areas rather than to players.

I thought he was very poor today, and against Benfica.

I just told you so no need to post the same thing in the other threads now though?

What are you babbling about? I expect you to now post that Rooney, Fabio, Vidic, Macheda, Nani, etc, all need to spend the week practicing their finishing in the relevant threads. After all, this is the Ashley Young thread. Get to it.

Truly frustrated me out there.

We know he's a great crosser and a very capable finisher. He was neither of those today and it probably cost us the win. I'll give him a bit more time to get up to speed considering he had an injury. But if he doesn't rediscover his cutting edge someone else will step in.

He was poor, hasn't delivered in a few months now, fair enough he's been injured but you'd expect better. Awful finishing.

Seemed to lack the intensity the rest of the team had towards the end, maybe got frustrated with himself. Giggsy still showing how to play on the wing, beautiful crosses, made his own space. Ashley take note!

Which is fair enough, but if your teammates aren't going into those areas, surely you adapt?

*Ideally players should know what he does in training, and we should have runners accordingly, but the actual game never quite works like training does it.

He clearly did. You could tell after one of his poor crosses went to no one. He's not doing himself any favors if his frustration lends him to have an even poorer performance. You'll be warming the bench that way.

Nail on head....... You can put that down to what he worked with at Villa - Carew, Heskey, Agbonlahor, serious big bastards who's games are entirely based on winning headers.
A lot of Villas goals came from him swinging hopeful balls into the box, he can't do that here because we aren't such a force at aerial bombardment. He'll need to work on that.

I don't think he was poor, he was frustrating yes. He seemed to lack a bit of touch and poise, his confidence seemed a bit low too. He was still a threat however and I think he'll be alright after a while, he's just back after an inury and the competition for places here is intense. Yet again however I was very frustrated that not many attacks went through Nani at the end.

Pretty poor today. I thought he made it easy for the full back by cutting back onto his right most of the time. He was able to gamble and show him the outside knowing he'd get away with it. But he'll be alright. This is all new to him.

Not one of the best crossers from what I have seen so far,

His strong point is that he is always available and works quite hard.

And has very thin arms. If you needed someone to reach something from between a small crevice or retrive your keys from a slightly ajar window, Ash would be, at the least, near the top of the shortlist.

Young used to play one good game for Villa and four shit ones. He played four good games in a row for you so you should expect 16 shit ones.

Second game back, he'll get his form back.

Not a great day for him but with a more clinical finish and but for the post we'd have people comparing him to Messi.
