Smashley Young

Yeah that's why wingers are dead (see Lennon, Johnson et al). You need AMs who contribute every game (see Silva, Mata et al).

We have always used wingers and they are a big part of how we play unlike Arsenal. We count on our wide players and that is why we always have pacy, good quality wingers in our squad.

Young is a good player but in games where the opposition closes you down fast and with numbers he struggles.
Players like Silva and Mata (or Modric) on the other hand have this ability where it seems they've got tons of time one ball in very tight situations and I would've liked if we'd went for that kind of player in the summer.

Those players play in the middle. Young was signed to play on the wing and he has been feckin fantastic and he has also cemented his place for England.

Man Utd star confirms reunion with girlfriend on red carpet four months after calling off wedding

He sensationally called off his wedding to his childhood sweetheart just two days before the £200,000 ceremony.

But Ashley Young has reunited with the mother of his two children Nicky Pike.

And what better way for a Manchester United star to confirm a romance than to step out on the red carpet with her.

The 26-year-old took his family to Disney On Ice at the 02 Arena in Greenwich, London last night.

The couple had been due to marry at five-star The grove hotel and spa near Watford, Herfordshire in June.

When asked on the doorstep of their £1.5million home, Nicky, 26, confirmed that guests had been told not to turn up.

The pair had been together for about ten years, first dating when they were still at school.

A friend at the time said: 'It's come out of the blue, a complete shock.'

The couple were also seen grocery shopping together in Wilmslow, Cheshire this week, sparking speculation they were back together.

Ashley and Nicky joined a small group of stars last night including TV presenter Jenny Frost and Prince Andrew's former girlfriend and Caroline Stanbury.

The event sees world-class figure skaters paired with Disney's favourite characters.

So who's gonna be the first to say he should pulling better looking birds than that?

Maybe she has a great personality and he has a tiny cock?

Roll on Sunday to we get singing his shit - but strangely catching - song.

I like her. A refreshing change from the generic fake tan, botox, fake tits dolls.

Always nice to see a footballer getting together with a childhood sweetheart instead of a random model who puts her tits out for cash.

After two good openers against WBA and Arse seems to have reverted back to his Villa days of cutting in and out over and over and over again before putting in an aimless ball.

His poor form seems to have escaped many.

I thought he gave Richards a torrid time in the first half. His final ball let him down time after time. As you said Leroy, turning back time after time.

In the second half with 10 men he was always going to struggle.

He made Richards work but without actually doing anything, he'd beat Richards then turn back again and then either a) put in a poor ball or b) get out muscled and dispossessed.

i don't understand why he was trying to go outside and cross with his left foot after managing to cut in and had the opportunity to cross or shoot with his right..

Yeah, I think I'm looking too hard for positives today

His crossing has become shocking.I don't understand since it used to be one of his strongest assets

That was the biggest disappointment. We couldn't get through their defence so the delivery had to be the main threat instead. After what he showed against Arsenal I was surprised he didn't try to vary his play and take a shot once in a while. We know he's capable.

I think it's down to being pressed. In the beginning of the season, defenders gave him time. Against Richards, anyone from Stoke and Norwich, they aren't going to give that to you. They might not have the quality of a 'Pool or Arsenal or Spurs side-back, but they have a physical presence which I think unnerves him. But he's had a cracking season and like Nani, he'll have ups and downs.

I'd swear at times he manages to create enough space to put better crosses than what he has so far.Yes he's pressed but he should do better the few times he has space

Don't understand why he let Milner just go for the 2nd - he was just watching him as Milner went into the box - obviously the red was the biggest moment but, thought we were positive even after, just needed to give a bit more defensively and keep it at 1. Giving up that 2nd just forced us to open up even more.

He had the measure of Richards to start with and all they could do was hack him down, over and over. The (first) goal seemed to put him off his stride though and was really a passenger from then on.

Probably did more than Nani in truth, but I expect much better delivery from him.

He's started his United career pretty well all things considered but my one criticism of him in a Villa shirt is that he lacks confidence against top fullbacks. His tricks go missing and he becomes predictable. He needs to fix that.

I've been reading United supporters views on Young at various footy forums today and have been shocked by some of the extra negative statements.

I personally think he's an excellent player and will get better under Sir Alex's man management. He's had poor form of late but most of the United squad have it seems.

Does anyone think he'll become a 'United Great'? Or just a very good squad player?

The same was said about Valencia at the start of his Utd career.FFS it's only 9 games in! Why the negative remarks?
I think he's shown a lot of bottle and ability;his goal against Basle proved that he's embraced the Utd philosophy of playing until the last second but he's still learning about his role at Utd...he'll improve maybe not 'Utd great' but a very good player for us for the next few years

United return to Merseyside tomorrow to face Everton, but must cope without winger Ashley Young, who is set to miss the game due to a toe injury.

United are awaiting the results of a scan on Young’s injury, but he is considered unlikely to feature at Goodison Park. He is also a doubt for England’s friendlies against Spain and Holland next month.

wtf is this? :(

An injury. ;)

Only 3 players in the team have more goals, and he's got 7 assist, Giggs, Nani and Park have 4 behind him.

He's been pretty damned consistent.

He's not played well since the Basel-game IMO.

Drifts out of games occasionally.

His injury means that Valencia will get the nod at RM and Nani will be pushed to the left, I imagine.

Thats only a few games!

Yup, but even before that, he's had his games where he's been anonymous. Off the top of my head, I can't remember him doing much against Spurs, Bolton, Liverpool or Stoke.

So far he's been a bit of a "every other game"-player. He didn't set the world alight against Chelsea either, or Basel, save for the assist for Smalling and the vital, late equalizer against Basel.
