Smashley Young

Im trying to remeber what his crossing was like as a Villa player. I seem to remember him being more of winger who would cut inside and link up with the forwards as opposed to hugging the touchline and swinging in crosses like Becks did.

I'm sure as a young player he has room to improve all aspects of his game. This is the one thing that I thought was glaringly obvoius from watching the westbrom game. He did have a good game overall, but against better side he will have to make more use of the type of room and quality ball he was given.

Variaton, variaton, variaton. Unless you're Antonio Valencia and opposed to all of natures laws, that's what you need as a winger. Ashley's got it, he just needs to gain the confidence that he's a bigtime United-player - which he will by the looks of it. He grew as the game wore on against WBA, and with Hernandez in the side, a bit more variation and getting him utilized as the great counter-attacking threat he can be, we'll see a lot of great things from Young I'm sure.

Think about it. He can pass creatively, he keeps possession in general play, and he's got a hell of a cross on him and some tricks up his sleeve. Also a good finisher, got good set piece-delivery(which we've seen) and pace to burn. He's like a hybrid of Nani and Valencia, a mixture of those two types of players.

I agree with this. I can see him being much more potent against Spurs tonight actually as they will commit players forward and this will give Young much mre opportunties to run on the loose (to use a Rubgy term). The attacking play from us will be less structured and this should suit him.

Well, he's not so young anymore(26), although he obviously is, what with him being Young and all.

As for the player he was at Villa, I remember thinking before that he was the sort of player who'd always consistantly deliver crosses into the box, cutting back on his right foot. I even thought he was a tad predictable, and not suited for a top side. As time went by, he became more of a rounded player, although last season wasn't his best.

He's got alot in his locker actually. Which you'll see.

It's weird, he's not as skilfull for me as Nani or Valencia, but he is.... alert and that makes up for it.

I think he had his best game today...In the first half when we were quite average, he was a constant threat and used the ball better than he has in his earlier games. Big improvement I thought. Looking good.

I'm sometimes not sure even he knows which way he's going to go when one on one though.

I like him, he's very much a United player, I'm looking forward to seeing more of him as he really gets used to the team.

He seems to have caught the disease of taking crap corners. His overall play was quite good though.

If I was being critical (and I usually am) I thought he had a great game and it's encouraging how much of the ball he gets in great positions but he still struggled to get the ball into the box. Won loads of corners by kicking the ball against defenders though.

Very good again, I thought. When you realise that we don't even miss Valencia at the moment thanks to the quality of our wings, you know we're in good shape. I'm glad we bought Young instead of our rivals because he would surely have made an instant impact in their team's as well. His use of the ball in tight spaces is already excellent and i'm sure his delivery will soon find their targets.

The best is yet to come from him.

How important is he going to be for our season? Till last season, even though I knew he was good I kinda hated him at Villa but now everything has changed. I am so pleased he signed for us.

He was good the first two games. Its only the Spurs where his delivery for set pieces in general was not good.

Young is player who doesn't have the talent of Nani but he is always there doing something or the other, always available for the ball, which makes him a player who will always give a very good performance.

Pretty good signing this.

I thought he was very good tonight, a constant threat and he has a good understanding with Rooney and very good awareness which he used to play overlapping runners in with some deft short passes.

.

I was quite surprised when he showed up centrally on the edge of our box to recieve a ball from DeGea. Not really a great position for him to get the ball but you have to admire his willingness to accept responsibility

I thought he was quality today, particularly in the second half. His dribbling skills were really good, actually reminded me a lot of Giggs' style if I'm honest. There were a couple in particular where he was cutting inside and out but backheeling the ball behind his other foot to do so, which tied the fullback up in knots. He's looking every inch a United player.

Twice he was running at the fullback feinting in and out right outside the box, went inside and really should've kept going but then went back onto the outside and let the fullback recover to block the cross. Hopefully as he gets more comfortable he'll take those openings onto the inside, as that'll make the fullback even more uncertain of where he's going in future match-ups.

Didn't make too much of an impact last night but his link up play was still good which is a difficult thing to get used to at Utd. Will certainly become a good player here.

Maybe but in my opinion, he is a more intelligent player than Nani.

Hmmm... don't know about this, Nani is pretty intelligent, it is just that he has so much talent that when he gets the ball, he just has trouble finding the right skill to use. He will come of age, still only 24, he is putting them together (his skills that is). When he is Young's age, we will see.

Intelligent as in Young uses his head better and does not waste possession as much as Nani and does not make rash decisions. I have nothing against Nani and I think they are the wingers who should start our big games.

You what impresses me most about Young. Its his attitude.

He gives an air off "This is my stage. I am finally here."

That goal sent a feeling through my body, it was football. As soon as he did that body feint I felt that Machedaesque feeling the ball would be pulled to the back of the net like a magnet.

A Yorke like transfer. A very good player already absolutely prospering in a better team. I'm so happy with him because I love wingers like that. He's a bit between Nani and Valencia in terms of trying something himself and playing a team game. Wonderful.
