Smashley Young

He was good in parts. Some of his crossing was great, but some of it was horrendous also. How many times did he hit the first man? Overall, he deserved to be man of the match and scored (possibly) a very good goal. I think he'll be a great player for us.

Very lively. He got a lot of the ball, still think he could of done better with some crosses.

Clear MotM

Well, apart from the Rooney-goal, none of our other forward players were on their game really, so he was the one who created basically everything we came up with. Good debut from him, much better today I thought than against City. Much more variety to his game, took on his man(and beat him) a lot as well as some dangerous deliveries, and his usual, clever approach play in terms of short passing.

A bit easy to read at times like Valencia but he is a really good player.

He was far far better than he was last week...and he was genuinely dangerous...Sky still over exaggerating it though.

He'll keep getting better I reckon. Happy with him today.

Overall a good performance but he can be very frustrating at times, he seems to be overly tricky when sometimes a quick pass or cross would be the far better option. He also hits the first man quite frequently. I'm sure he'll improve those factors of his game as he's capable of, looks like a very good signing.

very good start and we haven't even seen his best...

his final ball will improve - really good signing

His final ball was very poor today after some great work to get in positions. But 2 assists and all round good play - as the season goes on and assuming he improves, he's going to be some player.

Villa fans seem sure he will be a success here. Young or Downing, I know who most people will be more happy with come May.

I thought he had a cracking game, looked dangerous and made all the right decisions...the complete opposite of Nani.

I thought he was a mixed bag. He'll give us good balance but needs to be more decisive like was in his play for the second goal.

Young seems to have settled in well so far. So much for all those who said he would just be a squad player and not offer much or didn't want him at United. Looks like he wants to nail that LW spot down. Valencia will be nervous. Nice problem to have.

I like him. He has a determination and directness about him. And he has an inoffensive head, which is nice to see in a winger for a change.

I like his in game adjustment, tells me he is smart, he kept using his right to try and cross and it was not beating the first or nearest man, then he started to do the shimmy with his left shoulder dropping and started to get the best of those defending him.

That little fake he did helped him out twice. Once he almost got a penalty and the second time he got a goal.

I am probably the only one but I am still of the belief that if all our wingers are fit, I think Valencia will play more often than not.

I think I prefer Nani to Valencia right now. Valencia is more predictable in my opinion. Nani with his quick feet is more dangerous. But they both do a great job for us. It will interesting to see how Giggs and Park are played this season.

Good lord Spoons, back at it again?
Yes, Young has been good today. Not great, but good. Reason to have a go at Nani again though? DOn'T think so

so no one for the "Ooh! Young man!" chant then?

He was the difference in the match for us, but I think Nani paired with a proper fullback in Fabio could have done as well or better on the left.

I would like to see Young learn to simply put in the early ball, low and hard across the box. He seems to pull up and think too much before trying to cross, but with United there will be attackers in the box much earlier than was the case at Aston Villa.

If Valencia were healthy I would start him and Nani on the wings.

It was the worst Nani performance I've seen for some time. He was invisible in the second half.

Hardly. He got on the ball alot but his final ball was poor plenty of times today. Nani-esque. His movement however is brilliant

Nah, he made all right decisions by this he passed, crossed and moved at the right times, whether his crosses weren't brilliant is besides the point...as I said a complete contrast to Nani.
