Sir Alex told to target world's best players

To be fair, Wayne's cousin has a similar spelling style to the man himself:

This is the truth why would I chat s**t about my cousin just before one of the most important matches in his life

He's got a point there... or rather, a valid question... why WOULD you be talking this shite (true or not) just before one of your cousin's most important matches in his life?

fecking WUMs.

Thing is. Let's say for a moment that we have £170m. I cannot possibly see SAF spending that amount of money. I don't necessarily think the world's best players fit into our line up.

I'd love to sign Sanchez, but I'm not sure Aguero fits us right now.

I'm not sure who we sign for central midfield for instance.

I think De Gea, (Young or Sanchez) but who in central midfield?

See even if.we. maintain 25% hit ratio ( meaning.that 1 in four signings comes good) it.still.gives us a. good.player for.a.combined fee of 20- 24 mil pounds and 3 players with good-ish re-sale value. not a bad piece.of.business if you ask me

I love your versatile use of space, dash, and full period. Would be lovely if you threw it some underscores or !#&*$ for good measures.

Interesting that a year or so ago, Aguero was branded as a £45m player, now reports are suggesting he'd be available for around £20m.

He's never floated my boat, I must say.

And to be honest, I'm not bothered if United spend £5m on a gem or £50m on a world-star, if either is effective I'm happy, it doesn't bother me Ferdinand cost £30m compared to Vidic's £6m or whatever he cost, both do their job to the highest level and I don't worry about the cost, it's not my money at the end of the day, the end result as a fan is what concerns me...

Wonder which report had him as low as 20m ?

Lowest is Juventus at 27m if I recall.

Ath.Madrid want 40m...

Two days ago, I was reading about the Chelsea wanting five new signings story, not sure which rag it was in, but they were discussing possible targets and said Aguero would be available for that price, I'm trying to find the article actually mate...

Voila!

I think they mean that we will buy (good value) world class players, an oxymoron if there ever was one.

I am sure we will buy ourselves a GK, a LM and a CM to strengthen our preferred starting line-up for next season. De Gea (-18M), Young (-12M) and Sneijder (-27M) will thus be reasonable and not entirely improbable signings IMO.

I have a gut feeling who (sadly) says that both Nani (+22M) and Berbatov (+22M) are on their way out. While this may help to ensure Sneijder it also creates a need for additional reinforcements. Welbeck replaces Berbatov as the third choice, while Hulk(- 25M) sounds tempting as replacement for Nani.

If we subtract an additional 10M as a result of various sales, we end up with a net cost of approx. 30M. Maybe we can afford to buy some prospects also; Varane?

-------------------De Gea----------------------
Rafael--------- Rio-------- Vidic------------ Evra
Valencia (Hulk)----Fletcher----Sneijder-----Young
------------Rooney-----------------------------
--------------------Hernandez------------------

and a fantastic group of players for rotation and backup

This is a nice dream, although I do not want to lose Berbatov and/or Nani.

There's no chance of us getting 25 million for Berbatov, besides him and Nani are going nowhere - one was our top scorer and the other are player of the season for the most part.

Hulk isnt a natural winger either. Young and Sneijder are good shouts though, as is De Gea if he isn't already our player.

I hope you are right, I really do!

Berbatov should be worth 22M (I said 22M) for teams who need his skills and playing style IMO. He is world class!!

Berbatov with one year left on his contract and already 30 isn't even close to £22m.

There is no point in spending that kind of amount.

If we had bought three players (two + a goalkeeper), why would we need more? Three player will certainly not cost £100 mill (and definitely not £113 mill). If Ferguson went completely nuts this summer and bought for instance Hazard and Modric (in addition to De Gea), that could push our spending to £80 mill (net spend probably £70 mill). And that is a "best case"-scenario (or worst case, take your pick). He almost certainly wont.

Actually, the need for Hazard, Sanchez or Young is not that big either, if we get a player capable of replacing Scholes. If we spend £40-50 mill this summer (£30-40 mill net) we will have a fantastic team.

Righto, it's about time us Muppets got something for all our hard work and infractions.

Who we should buy:

1.) Sneijder
2.) Schweinsteiger
3.) Aguero
4.) Sanchez
5.) Varane

Anything other than this and we'll be relegated probably.

That's just ridiculous, this isn't FM :nono:

Sniejder, Sanchez and Varane are fine as our sole summer signings, but to add Aguero and Schweinsteiger too is just plain muppetry.

You evidently don't want the greatest team in the world do you?

Fabio--Rio-Vidic--Evra
----Fletcher-Carrick--
------Schweinteiger--
Valencia--------Giggs-
--------Sneidjer------
Sanchez--------Nani--
--------Rooney-------
-----Aguero-----------
--------Hernandez-----

Unstoppable imo.

Let us for safety's sake add a keeper or two:
De Gea and Neuer should do it!

Erm you've got 15 outfield players there,.

Since Sir Alex is big on value I think he won't go too overboard with the supposed warchest given to him, I'd expect our team to look something like this next season:

Fabio--------Rio---------Vidic-------------Evra
----------Schweinsteiger--Varane-------------
------Sanchez-----Sneijder----Giggs----------
-------------------Rooney----------------------

Should be good enough to mount another title challenge IMO.

Also you expect that only two of the current first team squad will make it into the front six of the first team next season :wenger:

I count 10.

As for your second point - you have to remember that football is a squad game now, the remaining players will still get plenty of playing time. Hernandez will become the new Solskjaer coming off the bench to score winning goals in the dying minutes

De Gea, Modric, Sanchez and I'm in heaven. Don't think we have that much doss though.

Most likely we'll get De Gea and Young.

Personally think that midfield position is second most important aspect that needs to be addressed after the keeper position.

It's not really the amount spent, but what we get in terms of quality for our money. I believe Modric will be at least £30m, add De Gea's £17m and we are already up to £47m.

Looks like De Gea is now almost done, so i would say it would be unlikely that we will spend huge amounts on one player. I could see us easily spending £30m on 2 players though but whether the quality would be good enough to simply improve the squad in general, or (as is my hope) significantly improve the first team is my main issue.
