Sir Alex told to target world's best players

None of that points to Utd now being a better team. It boils down to your preference. How many points we lost out by last season is irrelevant. Utd were unstoppable with Ronaldo and I've little doubt we'd already be on 20 titles and possibly 4 European Cups by now had he not left.

Right, thats why we lost the 09 Final? Firstly, no team is unstoppable, second, as I said, Ronaldo of late was not at all unstoppable. Its not preference, its clear to see, we play better without him, yes, his individual genius is missed but then it is compensated to a certain extent by other players breaking through.

You could have said the same about Ronaldo, Vidic, Evra, etc. I'm not after excitement during the summer through what the manager does. Not interested in the slightest about names etc. Just get decent players in - if you have to pay top dollar, so be it. I don't think that SAF thinks in terms of money when thinking about players. He only has to face that conundrum when it comes to asking the board for some money.

Thats genius like. when you think about, it's so clear. VDS - was he exciting buy? NEVER would i trade him for anyone else if he was to play another year? Never! Same goes to Evra, Vdic, Da Silva twins. Even Valencia one of the most unexciting buys you can possible get, and he turned out to be most loveable player on the team. Its not how you feel about player at the moment he signs, its how feel about him after he is given few seasons to prove himself.

Has Hernandez not taught us something - again? In that you don't need to spend 35 million for the likes of Andy Carroll (lol), as you can get something better for 6 million if you bother to look around.

wtf is that, lol indeed, 80K posts on an internet forum and lol is all we get?

But seriously, someone remind me again why we would want Ashley Young?

I think that Antonio Valencia is the classic case in point in that we payed top dollar for him and that people were disappointed at the same time - not good enough, one dimensional, not worth that, etc. Yet, he's for the most part been a fantastic player for us, pace, skill, work-rate, tracking back to help the fullback, and he's getting better. Shame that he has missed the majority of the season, because he's one of the very few wingers that I've seen that put Ashley Cole into such a tizz that he ended up dizzy, and then didn't dare go forward. He wasn't an exciting name though!

I for one am grateful to the years of quality posting he has given us and always appreciate his insight on the latest technology, and no im not his buddy sucking up, just telling it how it is.

Overreaction?

Young will be a very good signing for whichever team he signs for.

Good grief!

I don't think that Fergie has wingers on his mind for this transfer window for some reason, especially not silly priced average ones.

Young would be astute buy, people used to say the same stuff about Valencia before we got him.

So we have Nani, Valencia, Giggs (for another year) and Park, so Young would be 5th in line in front of Obertan & Bebe...He's never going to be more than a bit part player and £16M is a bit rich for that...

There were games this season when we were crying out for penetration from the left. Short due to injuries, I know, but I don't think Fergie will forget them.

Look at how many central defenders we have (and maybe getting another), but that is the way nowadays - squad depth.

I simply think that there are more important areas to deal with.

I wouldn't be in favour of signing of Young if it meant not getting a CM, but he would be a very good squad player to have because of his versatility, especially if reports are suggesting he could go for £10m. Clearly Obertan wont make it, and Bebe still has a lot to prove too.

Giggs cant be classed as a winger these days, Park offers a different type of wing option, more workman like than penetrating, Valencia is right footed 95% of the time and Obertan and Bebe are simply not good enough yet. That leaves us with only Nani, who the majority of fans think plays better on the right, to cover the left with some sort of attacking penetration, i think there is room for Young.

Fair enough on the unstoppable point. I should've said almost unstoppable. I'm afraid though itnis not clear to see we are a better team. Maybe when we've bettered the success we had when he was here you can say that. Until then it is merely a preference. You have no evidence whatsoever we are a better team now.

SAF should just bite the fecking bullet and sign me.

I'm utterly unheard of, thus there will be definite 'value' (I'd sign on a free, and would be thrilled with a couple hundred quid a week).

Plus I can do about 800 keep-ups.

I'd be a WAY better signing than Hargreaves was, value wise.

Muppetry's gone off the scale this summer - the rumours site I (stupidly) visit has these gems today:

*Giggs is retiring
*Ronaldo to United with Nani and Berbatov part-exchange
*Rooney to Real in exchange for Benzema and Diarra
*Rooney to Barca in exchange for David Villa
*Gabby Agbonlahor to United
*Beckham back on loan after impressing Sir Alex last night...

...and last but definitely least, this:

Sorry guys bad news
I am Wayne's (Rooney) cousin and I spoke to him on Monday morning to wish him good luck before the champions league final and he told me that he was adamant on leaving old Trafford for the bernabeau talks are on going with united since march. He also told me that united are holding out for 65 mill but real only want to pay 45-50 mill so might get aguero who would cost 40-45 mill. But those noisy neighbours are more than willing to pay the asking price to replace the inter-bound tevez.

Doesn't make sense to blow huge amounts of money when our current policy is as succesfull as it is...so long as the money remains available to the club and not in Glazers back pocket.

We won't be signing anyone for 30million plus though and I suspect we will fund some transfers through player sales.

1/10 for creativity though.

To be fair, Wayne's cousin has a similar spelling style to the man himself:

It's me from the Rooney to Madrid news that I broke earlier and for those who think I'm untustworthy just wait and see the news next week ( obviously waiting till after the champions league final) that Wayne wants to leave the red devils and only signed the contract so united and Wayne both get the best deal possible. Come on think satin he wants to leav and then a sudden u-turn he only stayed to help utd to win the league and gve something back to the fans who he respects and loves. We just need to respect his decision and get a lot of money for him to get sneijder and an other striker Wayne tells me this could pato of Milan or aguero as sir alex is impressed with his performances this season and that wonderful hat-trick he scored on Saturday
This is the truth why would I chat s**t about my cousin just before one of the most important matches in his life

I seriously doubt that a cousin of Rooney would be able to plug a computer in never mind work the feckin thing.

If it is true, I hope we don't spend for the sake of it.
