Sir Alex told to target world's best players

i'd love that but we'd be taken to the cleaners by Bayern as he only signed a new contract earlier in the season.

I also think it's a shame that Sahin went to Madrid considering his price.

35 million Euro well spent, imo, unless you think they'd want more. Fecking Bavarians.

Stopped reading at the 'Rooney earns 200,000 a week' bit.

It's fairly obvious that we're gonna sign a quality CM this Summer, so the journos leap on it to make it look like they know something about the inner workings of our club.

And of course we're gonna target 'the best players in the World' ffs, we're one of the very biggest clubs on Earth. What else are we gonna be targeting?

A creative central midfielder who can play in a 2 man midfield is all we actually need, but I could see us signing a couple of 19-22 year olds to add to the squad a la Nani and Anderson.

Ashley Young?

kids that could be developed into 'the best players in the world'

I think as soon as we showed a sniff of interest they'd tell the whole world in the hope of an auction. I was really hoping we'd try and get him not to sign a new contract to be honest.

For some reason I just don't think they're massively keen on us!

And how did you come to that question/conclusion?

You said, its debatable, as for you we now play more as a team and not neccesarily better than before because we did win lots with him.

Since, according to you, we're not all that better than before, hence we dont win that much, is what your post deduces to.

Both things I disagree with btw.

So you concluded what you wanted to?

I think with both Ronaldo and without him I think we are on a similar level. We are still pretty good and still winning. We just won the PL and are in the CL final why would I suggest we dont win that much?

No, I concluded based on what you said. You clearly said that we won shit loads with him and we arent all that better now than before. Whereas imo, we are better and we still win a lot. Win-win.

I think you're a tad confused yourself as to what it is you really want to point out. But your post does suggest what I said. If you're not alluding to that, then fair enough. As you were.

 we repaid that debt when we bought that Canadian crock. Now they owe us.

Well ok , I think we are on similar level. We were good when he was with us and are still good without him.

We do play more as team now which means we don't depend on one/two players.

Sneijder will not come - his agent has dismissed rumours linking him with a move away from Inter.
It'll be David de Gea, Raphael Varran and Ashley Young.

That tweet or whatever it was says the signings will be announced on the day the transfer window opens, Fergie confirmed De Gea last night, so is he not 1 of the 3?

SAF told to target the best players in the world less than two years after we sold arguably the bets player in the world....irony much.

100m on Messi and 70 on Iniesta then.

:D

That's more like it!

Throw in another 30m from our annual budget and I say go for Ronaldo and Messi both. Then sell one of them to City and get Xavi, Iniesta and Sneijder

Has Hernandez not taught us something - again? In that you don't need to spend 35 million for the likes of Andy Carroll (lol), as you can get something better for 6 million if you bother to look around.

Ohhh not again..

Quick, somebody post some annual reports and remind us of how much debt we have!

Three titles in three years since Ronaldo matured as a player. Followed by 1 in two seasons since he left. How have you deduced we are better. Still a very good team certainly but I'd wager there's a fair chance we'd be celebrating our 5th title in a row had he not left.

A season in which we lost out by a single point, mind you. Nevertheless, its fair to see why our play is better than before, Ronaldo of 06/07, yes, I would agree would add a whole lot to this team, but the ronaldo of late, post 07/08 is a different one, one that can boost and hinder a team at the same time. Besides, last season was all about adapting, we adapted a fair bit and did quite well and the results of that adaptation are there to see in this season, this team will only get better and is more well rounded, Ronaldo takes away a lot of impetus from other players when he's in the team.
I think Ronaldo will go down as one of the greatest ever and righfully so but I also think with him in the side, there are certain hindrances as well. And as you can already see, the current side are no bunch of mugs when it comes to winning trophies, as young as some of them are.

Given an option out of the two, I'd much rather see the 10/11 united than 08/09 united.

yeah thats how you feel after a season. but during summer at the moment of his signing. it wasn't very exciting buy.

The 08/09 squad had the younger Giggs, Scholes and VDS though :(

Some of you ned to grasp that debt has nothing to do with it. The company could have 2bn in debt with say 1bn of liquid assets. That's not a problem, almost every large company in the world have large "debts".

If you want to take it to the micro level, a carpenter could have 200k of debt and his lathe breaks. Well, he needs a new lathe no matter what his debt is, because without a lathe he can't make table legs, and if he can't do that he can't pay off his debt.

Some of you are weirdos!

You could have said the same about Ronaldo, Vidic, Evra, etc. I'm not after excitement during the summer through what the manager does. Not interested in the slightest about names etc. Just get decent players in - if you have to pay top dollar, so be it. I don't think that SAF thinks in terms of money when thinking about players. He only has to face that conundrum when it comes to asking the board for some money.

None of that points to Utd now being a better team. It boils down to your preference. How many points we lost out by last season is irrelevant. Utd were unstoppable with Ronaldo and I've little doubt we'd already be on 20 titles and possibly 4 European Cups by now had he not left.

'Club insiders say that any acquisitions will have to fit the template followed by Manchester United under the Glazers, with an emphasis on younger players who will retain value. The club has bought one player in the past 14 years who was over 27 and cost more than £3m – Dimitar Berbatov for £31m.'

I am wanking at the article this very moment. No Jewish Christmas this summer.

Club insiders eh? that's definite then, good enough for me.
