I'm going to cry in the shower now. I couldn't sleep at all and picked up my phone at 5:00am(in the US) and saw confirmation. I couldn't get back to sleep again. Now off to work.

Have a hug, lads.

Such heartbreaking news.

The worst thing is, i don't think he's capable of not working anymore, it'll be a very difficult and depressing period for him. What can i say, football won't be the same without him.

Not looking forward to see the aging process of Fergie in the stands now that he's not working anymore.

Of course it's fecking Moyes.

The only realistic options are him and Jose. And quite a few seem to think Mourinho to Chelsea is basically a done deal. Moyes makes most sense for what we currently have in place. Unless we're about to witness one of the biggest shocks in football history, they're the only two options in the running.

The most important question, though, what happened to samabachan and his last thread?

Read the news on my way to work this morning, was shell shocked. Not very good news to hear while your driving at 6:30 am. Wasn't alive when ferguson took over so Manchester United with sir Alex is all I've ever known, it's going to be so strange without him. Can't describe the way I'm feeling other than gutted. Good thing I don't have much work to do, not sure how I'd be able to do it.

I think on Sunday it should be Fergie who lifts the trophy on his own, that would be nice.

The noise will be unbelievable when
He does. :D

He has given his life to this Club and he deserves some rest and recreation now. I am glad that he will have a retirement to enjoy. Good on yer Sir Alex.

I think im gonna vomit this is actually too much for me today, and to top it all off ive fecking tons of work to try and get thorugh instead of staring out the window.

Of course it's fecking Moyes.

Klopp? Perfect manager really.

I'm sure this has been said at some point during this thread, but I for one am happy to see him go out like this.

As a winner, on his own terms and before a potential transitional period in the board room that might have some impact on the managers job (Gill leaving). He still has enough health to enjoy his retirement from the touchline and he's still going to be there as a mentor to the new guy (in the same way Sir Matt was to him - hopefully this time without the 20 years of managers not quite up to the job)

I can remember very clearly the way Clough left the game and that was not pretty. At least we'll never have to see that kind of thing with Fergie.

Thanks for that  you've set me off now!

Whatever you do, DON'T LISTEN to Sia - Breath Me.

Just reading this news, and thinking about the music, is making tears to start growing. But I am tough, so if one start to fall I have eyedrop to justify.

The only reason Mou wouldn't come here would be:
a) He wouldn't be wanted by United.
b) He was mid-contract somewhere or on another project.

He is leaving Spain, and wants to come to England. He always respects the club. He has been itching for it in the past. If Fergie was going to go in a season or two anyway but Mou was going to Chelsea he'd retire to stop that happening and have him here plus we won the title and reaching 1500.

I can't see it being anyone but him, I really can't.

Once Mou has finished then it'll be much easier for someone else to take over without the SAF legacy. Unless ofc. Mou can do the same thing here.

Where has this come from? You come home from office expecting something like "The FA charges xx for xx" and you get this? What the actual feck?

Klopp? Perfect manager really.

Klopp could be quality, but realistically that's not going to happen. The rumors regarding him are just that, rumors. He's got Dortmund in the CL final still to take on Bayern and can't see him walking out on them now, still work for him to do there.

Pep is off to Bayern. People like Ole and Blanc aren't ready yet. That really just leaves Jose and Moyes, barring a shock.

I'm going to venture outside for the first time since the news broke.

I fear the world will be a different, darker place...

Gill just said the manager will have to have experience in English and European competitions. Doesn't that rule out Moyes?

On topic with this thread, I really really feel for you lot. Losing a top manager who has been at the top for so long is so hard. Fortunately for meself, I have experienced it once. Doesn't it make this one any easier though. In fact, I'm upset Sir Alex didn't continue as I felt he really could have done more with this team. It just seems a bit too sudden but that's how these things go unfortunately. He has been a phenomenal manager altogether. The mistakes we criticise him for, his successor will make so many more. I hope you lot are ready for the future brings. That feeling of invincibility just died today. The workplace is just dead. Very sobering moment for the club and United fans. He truly is a once in a lifetime manager. Don't know of anyone else who has a case study on them because of their work in football. Seeing his photo with Ronaldo almost made me tear up. Shows so much about the man who simply had all the right qualities for this club. For some of you, this moment probably will take some time to sink in. I am glad he will still be around because it's hard for someone so influential to simply just disappear.

The great takeaway for me is that he will be alive to see all of the various tributes from the club, players, staff, the Premier League, other managers and the footballing world. Such tributes usually take place after someone has died. THis man gets to see them while he's still living. That's simply just fecking awesome. The new direction we will go will be interesting to see.

No matter how any of you feel, cherish the fact that you are alive in this time of United's history. So many of you say, "Fergie is all I've ever known". Yes but there were plenty of United fans who never saw this day. Who dealt with Liverpool's years of domination. Who saw Fergie take over but not long enough to see the fruits of his labor. The fans who endured with our barren spell of being on top. Don't feel sorry for being spoilt. You are very lucky fans because I am quite confident we wont see a period like this in history for some time. It's a fact of life that no one can take away from you. The fact that you've got to enjoy the most successful period ever seen in English football. As they say, "smile because it happened". We are one of the luckiest fans in the entire world let alone history.

Yes, but Moyes would hardly shock, Mourinho on the other hand...

It's funny. How your heart can conspire against your head into investing your emotions in seemingly strange and random things. In faraway places. Like a football club of all things. Now, I've been a Manchester United supporter for more than half my life. Some mixture of luck and happenstance drew me to them over a succession of lazy weekends of watching the telly in the noughties. I've often wondered about what it was that sucked me in, probably the celebrity, charisma and star power of those players at the time - the Cantonas, Giggs, Keanes, Scholes and Beckhams. Latching greedily to their success as a means of escape, not unlike the fantasy and scifi novels I've always been fond of. It took me a few more years and maturity to understand that it wasn't the flamboyance of the actors on stage, but the man behind the curtain, the maestro behind the orchestra, the director of the theater of Dreams. That fiery, temperamental, gum-chewing, red- cheeked, whiskey-nosed, incomprehensible Scot who plotted, schemed, outwitted his way to victory after victory against apparently insurmountable odds and was responsible for my most guilty pleasure, my life consuming obsession. It isn't logical that a 70 year old Scotsman losing his day job should make me (and I'm sure millions of others) feel this way but that's how it goes. The cynics may say that its just a game or he's just a man who doesn't even know you exist but to them I say ...
It's funny. How your heart can conspire against your head into investing your emotions in seemingly strange and random things. In faraway places. Like a football club of all things. Like Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson. It feels like much more than an end of an era, it feels like Growing Up. FOOTBALL, BLOODY HELL ! RIP the FERGIE ERA !

Good old Paddy...

Clued up! MUTV pundit Paddy Crerand’s angry dismissal of Fergie rumours hours before he quit..

One of the biggest losers in the Sir Alex Ferguson quitting Manchester United story is MUTV pundit Paddy Crerand.

Early on Wednesday morning Crerand, known for being a firebrand with forthright opinions, took part in an interview with Irish radio station Newtalk in which the talking-headed angrily dismissed rumours of Fergie quitting as “rubbish”.

Newstalk Breakfast’s Oisin Langan got an earful from Crerand, including the following quotes:

God Almighty! I think people must sit up at night and wonder ‘what can i do make up a sensational story?!’… I was with lots of poeople from Old Trafford [for three to four hours yesterday] and there wasn’t a murmur about it… I think it’s a load of rubbish. I can’t believe it for one minute that the manger is thinking of leaving!

I just think its the crazy season… You tell me any one of the newspaper reporters who have go tthat story have actually spoken to anyone at Manchester United and they have said that Alex Ferguson is quitting!

The interview continued for seven, excellent minutes.

Listen to Paddy Crerand’s hilarious interview on Wednesday categorically denying that Alex Ferguson was quitting Old Trafford below.

I don't want Moyes and I'm dubious about Mourinho. Who else is out there that fits Gill's statement?
