I can't believe it, being in Leeds is the worst possible place to be right now, no tribute thread on a forum will be enough, gutted, it was going to happen but feck me it hurts...

I don't know...everyone at my work has been (in their own way) saying what a sad day this is for football.

I just feel numb right now. And very emotional. As a 'younger' United fan, Fergie is all I've known, and I probably took him for granted in all honesty. This all just feels so surreal right now. Like we all knew it would happen one day, but at the same time, didnt think it ever would. (if that makes sense?)

I've decided that it's all RVP's fault for jumping over him.

feck off RVP.

It's not a surprise to hear it. We all knew it was coming. But it still takes a bit of believing when you actually know it's finally happened.

I'm glad for him, I hope that he's retiring with his health mostly intact, and can only wish him a long and happy (semi) retirement. I say semi because I've no doubt we'll be seeing plenty of him around the world, with the team and without, acting as an ambassador for the club.

Good luck to him
- and to us

:( Thank you Sir Alex, you are Manchester United.

I just hope that van Persie turns out to be a monumental signing that gives us that extra cushion of individual brilliance that helps ease the transition for the manager. Obviously any success over the next couple of seasons will be largely built on Sir Alex's squad-building skills but it's always nice to have that one player you can point to and say - he won us the title. Would be fitting if Sir Alex's last major signing is the player that continues on that success at a time when the old guard are retiring.

Well said.

Fergie once said "Don't compare me to that woman" when someone brought up a Thatcher comparison before.

Fred the red gets Rene's vote to take over.

The only Manchester United I've known has had Sir Alex as manager, as will have been the case for a lot of fans, this is just crazy. I was really hoping this isn't what I woke up to. :(
