Best of Luck to him in the Future. I hope he has a long life ahead - he has given Man Utd a fair chunk of that life.

Pretty much all the media are reporting that the next manager has already been chosen and the formalities just need to be done with his existing club

I've been watching SSN for the last couple of hours and it still seems so surreal.

This hurts a LOT more than I thought it would, I am honestly close to crying.

What a brilliant man and manager. Wish him all the best in his future endeavors and hope he has a long life ahead of him

I always hoped but never believed that he would carry on until he was 75 what a mare of a morning this has turned out to be

Best wishes SAF

Why today though? Why not after the season ends? Did a journalist find out and break the story or did the announcement come through official channels?

It sounds to me like a rush job. The speculation got too much that the club had to reply and they couldnt say that he wasnt leaving if he might do in a few weeks because of the markets.

Time to sell Giggs?

Seriously, extremely surreal, i am waiting for him to make a u turn like he did several years ago.
Fully expected him to be around for at the very least 1 more year :(

Thanks Fergie, you gave us days and nights I'd never have imagined we'd see before you turned the place totally on it's head....

It seems pretty clear someone got wind of it and United have had to respond. I assume they'd have held back until Sunday otherwise, as has been suggested.

Sir Alex deserves a proper send off. He's earnt the right to have Sunday be about him. In fact I think it's perfect that his last home game would be us lifting the Prem. If we waited till end of season he wouldn't have had a "special day". I don't think it's a leak tbh, seeing how its unfolded, perhaps the plans were in place to announce it before the weekend.

He probably wanted to do it before the Swansea game (last one at OT this season) and the golfing trip yesterday was his only chance to talk to the entire squad in private away from the training ground. The subsequent leak forced United's hand...

Absolutely. His last game sees him lifting the title, Can't think of better way to send him off.

Forget the title, the Swansea game should be about Fergie

I always just assumed he'd win his 3rd CL eventually. :(

Still doesn't quite hit home.

It will be so odd seeing someone else as the manager. He's been manager since before I was born so I've only known him.

SAF is brilliant. Will be no other like him. Thank you for the privilege.

I am numb, I thought I'd log on this morning to find out it was just some sponsorship announcement, gutted.

Very depressing news to wake up to. :( I thought last night's rumors would ultimately turn out to be false. My deepest gratitude to the mighty legend for all that he's done for Man United throughout a long, glorious tenure filled with incredible success.

An absolute legend of the game. I suppose his greatest attribute more than anything else was his belief in perseverance not just in the team's real time approach to a game and its attempt to influence a result but also in cultivating a philosophy based around zero tolerance on complacent behaviour. Happy retirement Sir and many thanks for everything.

A sad day for us all but I am happy for the man. He can retire on a high in good health.

But feck me is this summer going to be a long one. Start of the season no Ferguson..................I don't even want to think about it.

I completely missed the rumour-mill build up to this, and was so feckin busy in work today that I learnt about all of this 15 minutes ago via a text message from the missus.

Head is all over the place right now

Cristiano Ronaldo @Cristiano
Thanks for everything, Boss.

I'm being completely genuine when I say that I actually picked the wrong fecking day to quit smoking
