Should we consider selling Pogba?

Next summer is our only chance to sell him for a decent fee (I reckon £50-60 mil tops). If not - he'll be off on a free in 2022

Getting him to sign a new contract is also bad business IMO - as we'd waste £15-20 mil per year on his wages - whilst praying on the off-chance someone is dumb enough to buy him

Ok to reply on that point. I think you start rotating Pogba with Bruno. Not sure where that leaves Donny but he will have to be patient unless he plays deeper. Ole will have to park his ego because he will get a lot of criticism for not signing a holding mid.

Otherwise Ole perserveres with Pogba in a holding role and if it doesnt click then he gets benched.

Oleball has won him a Norwegian league. Pogball has one him league titles and a World Cup.

I see, another deluded Pogba fanboy that believes Pogba was the main or significant reason as to why Juv won the league, a team that has won the last nine league titles. Him joining or leaving Juv, made little difference, they were winning before and winning after he left...

Im as deluded as people believing a manager who hasn’t done anything significant in England except for relegate a team which currently looks at him as the worst manager they have had in a decade is some how miraculous going to bring us back in with a fighting chance of becoming a big club again.

I’m that side of the deluded. But yes I’m also deluded enough in thinking a player who has the most ability in our team some how can’t perform like most of our players in our team but of course it’s his fault. Nothing to do with the club.

Thats precisly what the management want him to be and precisely what he isn't. I say precisely but they would also like him to play the regista. Again he can't.

Just sell him. Bruno coming in has fecked him quite honestly. And now with Donny.

Shit management I am sorry to say.

If a little competition for his place has scared him into essentially requesting Madrid come and rescue him, then we're better off without him.

I am glad we got there and finally reached the conclusion, that you are deluded.

With time you will release you was the deluded one like most people who don’t really have a clue what they are talking about.

Don’t worry I’ll remember you and remind you.:)

I don't think we have had any offers tbh. I think we might have sold him this summer if a good offer had come in.

Most of the big clubs did not spend big on a single player this summer due to Covid, and perhaps also because of the failure of the majority of these transfers over recent years. There is no market for the likes of Pogba to move at the moment.

If Pogba has wages of bench players, I would have keep him because he will be amazing impact sub player, he’s a quality player. Unfortunately he is our 2nd highest paid. We can’t play Pogba, Bruno, Marcus, Mason & Martial week in week out because it’s too attacking and offer no balance at all. One needs to be sold and it’s so obvious who needs to be dropped/sold because Pogba has stated it’s dream to play for Real and his contract is expired soon. For the sake of the squad, we can’t give him a payrise, move on and don’t be afraid of selling him cheap.

Can't stand him. He can't even back it up with good performances.

Don't even know what this sentence means.

Please do remind me when Pogba leaves, whatever people think of Ole, one of the best things he did was get rid of toxic overrated players that didn't want to be here, like Sanchez and Lukaku, hopefully Pogba is another.

Yeah sure. I like how people think the board is incompetent but yet them and Ole came up with this amazing plan of a cultural rebuild and of course this ‘new’ transfer policy.

Either Pogba goes or it will be Ole going. I keep on repeating it, which makes me worry for Ole, that no way would Ferguson tolerate this.

I am currently reading his book Leading and he talks at multiple times about discipline. Pogba just does not have this.

Like Kean said, Pogba threw Mourinho under the bus and he will do the same with Ole.

Let me guess, you were one of the select few that were still defending Lukaku and Sanchez to the end and it was everyone elses fault as to why they were not performing...

From another thread, but fits better here:

He gets a lot of vitriol which is unnecessary. It must be allowed to question the return on our investment however. He hasn’t been worth the investment, simple as. I think we should sell him. His failure isn’t only on him though, I have to say. He’s just not the hero we need or deserve right now, and it’s become apparent we won’t see the best of him here. How about we get in a CM who actually wants to be a CM, and enjoys playing in midfield?

The most luxury player out of luxury players.
When you buy Zlatan, you are buying a Ferrari and should drive him like one.
But Pogba is on another level (for ManUnited), when you buy him you're buying a Jet aircraft and it's not enough for you to fly him like one. He also needs two more smaller aircrafts to fly beside him as "supports". If you don't, the engine will start making weird noises and/or performing badly.

I thought you were serious until I reached the bolded part

Nope Lukaka didn’t fit a style of play United should have been playing (which we still don’t play so he would have been perfectly fine still here) and Sanchez is just Sanchez. He’s finished at the EPL level.

Any other false groups you want to put me in?

 Lukaku fine still here, the front 3 has been the biggest improvement and to no small part in Lukaku leaving and not be around to feck up attacks.
I told you already, the deluded group.

So are you telling me Lukaku wouldn’t have scored goals last year in our team? You telling me he wouldn’t have performed better than Rashford’s abysmal performances as a number 9.

Your being disingenous. If Lukaku was here, A: we wouldn’t have seen such a big improvement in the first place, and B: he wasn’t interested in being a bit part player. Both those things aren’t debateable for anyone with one good eye. It’s fecking weird to use this as a stick to beat the club/Ole with, when there are soo many legitimate concerns to choose from.

It’s not disingenuous at all. I was asked do I believe we should have kept Lukaku I said yes if we was going to play like this. Hardly a stick to beat him with. Just the truth.. he only wanted to go because Ole wasn’t going to start him ahead of Rashford. Who he changed his mind on in the summer.

in answer to the OP, yes.

He rarely shows up these days meaning he’s an expensive liability. He clearly doesn’t give a toss and the impact on his teammates is negative.

It’s any interesting thought experiment. I’m actually surprised at how content many seem to be with Bruno but disgusted with Pogba, even people I’d expect to have a more nuanced view.

Put Pogba at 10 and on pens, ask Bruno to play in the double pivot and opinion would switch sharply.

Bruno has not scored a non-penalty goal since 04/07/20 against Bournemouth. That’s 15 games ago. Pogba has scored twice since then, albeit once from a free kick and once shooting from a corner.

The system doesn’t suit either of them frankly. Bruno to me has never looked like a number 10, especially as he never wanted to enter the penalty box (and why early comparisons with Lampard were misguided), and is better driving from deeper midfield. Pogba isn’t a holding midfielder either. Both are well suited to being mezzale or those wider box-to-box midfielders in a 4-3-3.
I put the same point across many many times but many people on the caf think that it's the mentality of the player and if he's great, he can show it in any position. My point to that is, he played in Juve where Pirlo was the pivotal point to any attack, he cleaned up behind Pogba and therefore Pogba was allowed to move freely within the 8 and 10 area where he is immaculate. Pogba will definitely make mistakes and those similar to that of Bruno because they are forward thinking players and will will try to find the key pass for someone to finish or get that assist. He's not a player who can defend or run back to cover a winger. Pogba long legs and his style is a gift to Man United, he can pick out those passes that other players wish they had in their arsenal yet he's played deep by every manager and is sadly losing the ball in deeper areas because our team around him is not that great either. Frankly, I feel it would be better if he left because I don't see Ole playing him in an advanced position which I'm certain that Pochettino would if he came. Which is altogether another story. OleIn, I hope he plays Mctominay close in between the 2 centre halfs and play Pogba and Bruno as 2 number 8s as part of the attacking force. I mean a lot will change and those forward players will make more runs and receive more balls in the box to go for the goal. I guess we're playing a double pivot just because we want to save our defense which is ridiculous. They defensive 5 of AWB, Tuanxebe/Bailly, Maguire, Telles/ Shaw and Matic/Mctominay must be able to clean up behind them. If need be, Bruno and Pogba can track back and find each other to push forward. They're indeed box to box midfielders.

Problem is and have been buying him from Juventus. We should have stayed away from him from the first place. If he loves the cub, as he said, he has one wierd way to show it.

Exactly. I can't believe there's still someone that believes it made no difference in getting rid of Lukaku, I thought that clan had fizzled away. It explains alot in how you view the game itself and some of the opinions you hold around Pogba

Pogba has a dream of playing for Real Madrid. I have a dream of him playing for them as well. Hope Madrid pony up at least 90 million (Wishful thinking I know) and he could be theirs. Dreams fulfilled all around. We would be lucky to get 50 million unless we hoodwink PSG.

Thank the deity he did, Rashford isn’t a striker, and Lukaku isn’t a player at all. Like he showed at United, he can score goals if fed inside of the penalty mark, while in games we struggle (which is about every other game) he’s a total passenger. More than that, watching him play football is a soul crushing and gutwrenching experience. I’d rather watch McTominay all day long. You?

For all the fancy footwork and everything, games are won by scoring more goals than your opposition. Lukaku has a nasty habit of finding the back of the net regularly. Not sure others watch when we have chances go begging in nearly every match because we don't have the finishers to put the ball in the back of the net.

Not really. I just talk the real. You’re filled with rose tinted emotion and can’t rely an honest opinion without your feelings being involved. I mean I don’t even bloody like Lukaku.

It isn't Rashford who has replaced him. That would be Martial.

No it was Rashford who was playing upfront when Lukaku was here. Unless someone can prove otherwise.

But I was pointing out when Martial was injured and Rashford played upfront. Lukaku would have been available to lead the line.

Ah, gotcha. In the long term though I still prefer our setup now with Martial up top instead of Lukaku.

 sure you do. Your "real talk" is fanboyism, as opposed to actually looking out for the interest on the club.

Tell me again, what will you remind me of again? That Pogba joins Napoli and wins the league for them and shows every United fans that doubted him what they are missing, is that it?

I like him but if he wants to leave, then yes. Replace him with Grealish. They should probably cost about as much.

I dunno. He was obviously sold on the project, whatever that means, at the time we bought him. Him, Zlatan, Jose etc. He was laying chances on a plate early on, they were just never take, but somewhere along the way it went tits up and here we are. Hes keen when we look good, and apparently not interested when we arent. Not sure what we do now though. Post covid I dont think we get a big fee for him.

I would drop him for a couple of games and see if it fires him up to prove a point. Hes not fit anyway so we arent missing anything.

Your probably deluded enough to think Pogba can play for Napoli.

But we was talking about Lukaku and how we sold him because he didn’t suit Ole’s style only to find out Ole had no style in mind. But obviously full patriot you has to back Ole and his style that doesn’t suit Lukaku. But yeah explain to me how Lukaku wouldn’t have fit In this team?
